+BenBenBeartrax Well, Allan has won twice in the LMP1 class and once in GT class, a total of 3 times at Le Mans. So, he does know a thing or two about racing.
You're so wrong. This is a short film that beautifully describes the thrill and visceral feel of driving a bleeding edge sports car. McNish teaches us things that frankly we can't know. He brings us with him. For a casual fan or a new person it is imperative that they see his face so they can identify with him. I've sent this clip to many people as an example of what auto racing is about from a driver's perspective. I don't think I've ever seen better.
Just arrived in le mans, and I drove my peugeot expert down the mulsanne straight and the Indianapolis corner. Feels so slow after racing in games. One thing ticked off the bucket list:)
To Waterson08 The reason why you get that lap time is cause 1.Grid isn't a sim And 2. The track on grid is very different than the real track, especially the Ford Chicanes.
A bit different from Kobayashi classical methods. Kamui Kobayashi follows the ideal line as long as long as there are "zigzags"and series of corners until the two last corners of a sequence where he generally follows lines that maximizes his speed while exiting the last corner. Neel Jani is probably somewhere in between McNish and Kobayashi, not as extreme as Kobayashi when it comes to always privileging corner's exiting speed nor sticking to the perfect line like McNish.
Eight and a half miles, three and a half mins, that's hard enough in a straight line! Great commentary, shame about the grating musak in the background...
At the entry of the track, you can see maintenance staff on the left of the track, so actually the whole video has had its speed increased by different amounts to give a racecar-like experience with appropriate timings based on footage recorded using a roadcar.
These vehicles have a very low ground clearance and much/most of the track i actually public road, therefor there is a risk of scraping the bottom of the car at certain places. And since the drive for 24h/+300 rounds the wear on the car can become significant damage. And the underside of modern race and sports cars actually play an important part in the aerodynamic setup of the car by producing downforce. So, in the grand scheme of things, it is prudent to avoid wear on the car if possible.
And because to have a fast exit of the first chicane you have to go on the left side of the road, and the braking for the second chicane is on the other side to be (against) on the fastest line
For me, I think its because you need to cross the crown therefore you wont need to adjust yourself going on the right to have faster corner because that plays a big role on the second chicane you need fast corners in order to have full left steer on the 2nd chicane or else someones gonna steal your track/overtake and its hard to defend it when you are near on the 2nd chicane becasue you need that fast corner.
Let me be fair and give credit, although I did not like an irrelevant something about his accent or his aggressiveness while saying this is our yard... but HE WAS EXTREMELY GOOD IN EXPLAINING, looks like a good driver and a good coacher.
@DanielFigueroaPalomo Thank You So Much for the updates! Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year 2025! May many Happy Good Wishes Coming True for You Sir! 🙏🌷🌿🍎🍊🥘🍕🍰🍔🍟🥧🍨
Nice video, but I really really wish the editors would resist the temptation to do edit cuts. The whole point of a video like this is to get into the groove of the track. The edits are jarring, and I don't need to see the guy's face.
In gran tourismo I hated this track tha most. You could never get a feel for this track. Tha braking zone was forever. You show down too late or early lol ha ha love savage godlike lol ha ha :D
He is mentally in the lap, he is even shifting like he is in the car. Amazing concentration.
He's in that car.
I have never known anger like I felt when they kept cutting away from the onboard and on to McNish.
John Hammond Hehe, I know what you mean. TV people are clearly not racers. Good thing that there is plenty of other onboard-only footage available.

He's had practice
He's done about a 1000 laps here. His dreams are this circuit.
Then do 300+ laps again. RESPECT!

This is Alan developed talent for later commentator career
McNish is a legend.
De los mas bonitos del calendario.
He missed the bit in the dunlop S’s where you touch a Ferrari and nearly get thrown into the crowd.

It takes a Scotsman to explain the beauty of France.

ok question, when he goes through the second mulsanne chicane and mulsanne corner, is the vid speeded up???

Actually, there will be a part 2 of Truth in 24 Audi announced: Google for "truth 24 2 audi".
Why do you have to cross the crown of the road at a certain point on the straight?

"3rd gear, underneath the dunlop bridge, dive up the inside of a ferrari and then bin it in the wall almost killing 15+ people in the process"
