Eggshell as paper and drywall is brilliant. Have seen a lot of videos on this subject, and yours is by far the best so far. I think because you have such a fabulous eclectic mixture. I would have sprayed the glue after adding each "type" of garbage.

I used egg shells for my C&D loads for dry walls inspired by Dan. It is definitely brilliant. Cory Mears

Way late to this.....but AMAZING video!
I've just started doing research on how to do weathering, add details, and make custom loads. I've learned more in this 15 minutes than I have by watching hours of other videos and doing days of Internet reading!
And then I checked out your channel library. OMG!!! I know what I'm doing this weekend! I've subscribed and refilled my coffee mug.

Since all foam (styro or sponge) deteriorates over time it is wise to seal the foam with a 50/50 mix of Elmer's glue (PVA) and water. Once sealed you're good to go from there. Nice gondola loads. I've got a box full of plastic wheel sets when I changed to all metal wheels & axles and I was gonna throw them away. Now I've decided to use them as loads for flatcars and gondolas. I've also got a few plastic knuckle couplers I'm gonna use in a load also. Cheers from eastern TN

You've got a lot of talent at making those. And you're giving me a lot of good ideas. But i have a couple suggestions. If you use that pink insulation foam instead of Styrofoam it won't be warped by the glue, a layer of dark brown or rust colored paint will hide the color of the base & any gaps, and if you imbed small magnets in the bottom of the foam you will have removable loads so you can run them loaded 1 way and empty back the other easily.

I love that idea! It sounds better than a permanent load. Cory Mears

Hi Dan, I just love the way the gondolas look with the smooth walls. They should be the only type of walls on the gondolas. I think it looks better than the ribbed walls. The black ones should be painted red or orange or yellow or blue or chrome. I have been making realistic C&D and I have multipurpose gondolas. I have also been collecting wood shavings and partially burned wood from near a fire pit for the burned down house effects on the C&D load. I highly recommend getting burned wood for your C&D cars. I also highly recommend getting small chunks of asphalt for the C&D cars. I also highly recommend getting a tier 4 just for the C&D cars. I just LOVE tier 4s. Cory Mears

You can also hot glue the tule to the back of the foam. The glue won't hurt anything but will hold stronger, and old ladies do it in crafts so it's a proven technique.

Nice loads Dan. Just a tip. I don't know how long tape will stick to styrofoam but give a try with a hot glue gun. Hot glue adheres very well to styrofoam.

Thanks for the how to video. I've just made my own loads which turned out very well. One suggestion is using 1 inch double sided (banner) tape to secure the Tule. Worked out perfect for me, even was able to secure added weight to the load that way.

Cutting the netting fabric with a quality rotary cutter along a straight edge may give the best result.

These are nice but you could add some brown paint in your initial glue layer so that no white foam will show through especially on the edges. Keep up the good work.

I've been looking for these types of cars for construction & debris loading. I see these cars a lot at the railway I work at. I see an influx of this traffic more and more.

Vege667 yeah I’d really like to see if this would work in N scale, probably would need finer materials...

You can but you would probably need to stick more with the fine rock and sand mix through out.
