    Lucky you. There are two places I know of to buy old tools where I am. There is no real culture of making things so the tools are typically decorative or for collectors. When the sellers see an expat the price always skyrockets. At one I saw an unusual plane with a blade nearly 4 inches wide and a short wooden body. The asking price for me was around $200. Naturally I passed on that, I later found that a whole range of wooden planes could be brought brand new from the local hardware at prices starting around $15. The plane I use is an old Pope, (a Stanley No4 clone) which I brought at a flea market in Sydney Australia. I got two of them for $20 and manged to get one good plane out of them. I'm pretty restricted space wise so I don't have much in the way of tools but I manage.

      Unfortunately, I haven't found any particular tool mates in the UK. There are several tool stores that are dedicated to antique tools but nothing quite like this. The occasionally you do have some pop-up sales from time to time.

      It's on the website. When you become a member of the MWTCA they will send out invites about a month or two before it. On the website there are two different lists. One of them for local events and one of them for the national meets.

    quick question about the tools gate sale, does it still require to be a member to go there, if so does it also require some kind of entrance paid fee, and if I were to bring an extra person does to any of the meets from tales gate to auction meets? Does that person also need to be a member or do will that need extra payment at the entrance?

    • @WoodByWrightHowTo
      @WoodByWrightHowTo  2 роки тому

      You have to be a member. That is so we do not have to worry about insurance or taxes as we would if it was open tot he general public. If one person is a member they can bring a guest. but the guest also pays their own entrance fee. There is also an entrance free as this is not just a tool show but a whole conference with events to cover. Some of the smaller local meets only have a $5-$10 entrance fee and there are some that can do it for free. the membership also covers a bunch of other benefits and regular publications that are fantastic! on top of that members get early invites to meets and tool shows with a discounted early rate. Paying at the door is always WAY more.

      There are some. But not many. Most people younger than 30 aren't interested in hand tools. That's something that usually comes down the line a little ways. After a while wood working with power tools. But there are a few that find it earlier.
