    Two big announcements since publishing this video: Chase is increasing the interest rate of their Chase Saver account to 2.7% effective from the 4th of January. Starling has introduced a 1-year Fixed Saver (3.25%) with a minimum deposit of £2,000 and up to £1,000,000. ^Jonny

    I think chase beats starling for foreign spend due to the 1% cashback. You did not mention daily spend is unlimited with chase whereas with starling its only 10k per day.

    • @Monitodotcom
      @Monitodotcom  Рік тому +2

      Hey Steve. Both are great points! Chase is unlimited and absolutely worthy of a mention but I don't think that's enough to win the category of Everyday Banking. For International Banking, I could see that being a valid reason to side with Chase, especially given that both are pretty much the same for spending and withdrawals! Thanks for your insight. ^Jonny

    Chase is great for saving but Starling is better with everything else
    Starling needs to introduce a instant savings account

    • @Monitodotcom
      @Monitodotcom  Рік тому +1

      I agree, they really need to introduce some sort of savings account, even if its similar to Monzo and the 3rd-party accounts they have available. ^J

    The cash back alone on Chase makes it a no-brainer. I've earned nearly £25 in only two months already. Savings accounts are irrelevant, because there are better, easy-access accounts elsewhere (Zopa is best at the moment) where you can put your money. But earning that much cashback, just for spending money on everyday things, that can't be beaten currently.

    FYI, Starling has introduced a fixed saver 3.25% savings account that starts with a minimum deposit of £2,000 for a year. Not great but it's a start.

      Starling is good and stable, but the UI looks very weird. A ring in the middle of the screen rather than the balance.

    I use Starling with Tandem at the moment, would rather put my money with more ethical British fintechs than a big American bank with very questionable ethics.

    • @Monitodotcom
      @Monitodotcom  Рік тому +3

      I think a lot of people share the same sentiment and would agree with you, but would still use or continue to use Chase for their cashback rewards. Once that ends though, I imagine a lot of people will be withdrawing their money and going elsewhere. I'm curious to see what offers Chase present to try and prevent this from happening. ^J

    What would be a good card to use for international travel? I wanted to have a travel wallet that would not charge me on spending.

    • @Monitodotcom
      @Monitodotcom  Рік тому

      Both are great, they're fee-free and use Mastercard's exchange rates. It comes down to whether you want greater ATM withdrawals (Starling) or 1% cashback on international spending (Chase). ^Jonny

    I wanted to ask, with Starling you can open a Euro account. Would that make sense when going abroad to European countries so that you can see your money in EUR or just having my personal account be fine to spend on and let it do the rate conversion itself?

    • @Monitodotcom
      @Monitodotcom  Рік тому +1

      Hey KundiCS. With Starling, you can open an EUR account, although it wouldn't be necessary for travelling abroad or to Europe. The EUR account is mainly suited for people wanting to receive euro payments. Just use your Starling card to spend/withdraw money in Europe, this won't incur any fixed fees and you'll receive Mastercard's exchange rates which are pretty good.
      Just make sure when you do pay or withdraw money using your Starling card that you always decline the conversion and select to pay/withdraw in the local currency. Let me know if you have any more questions and if you're yet to open a Starling account please consider using my affiliate link (bit.ly/3HEPISo). Thank you ^Jonny

    I think people underestimate how much more alluring an ethical and *British* bank is to Brits... point of pride for some, myself included.
    A massive and unethical foreign bank or a British and ethical one. Easy choice for me.
    Starling could learn from Chase card design though. Starling's card belongs in a monopoly set.

    • @Monitodotcom
      @Monitodotcom  Рік тому

      I'm not sure I agree. Do you think Brits that are struggling with the cost of living, would choose a bank that gives them 1% on their day-to-day spending, OR a bank that pledges to only invest money ethically and plant trees with every account that's opened?
      I definitely don't agree with unethical practices, I'm 100% in favour of reducing our carbon emissions and not investing in arms etc BUT when push comes to shove I think the majority of those that are struggling financially would choose reward banking over ethical banking. But what's you can't have both?
      Also, I 100% agree, Starling, NEEDS to improve its card. I guess they just wanted to go for something mundane to keep up the 'we're like a traditional bank but online' image. ^Jonny

      It'd be useful to know what country you're from. Saying "I'm from the EU." doesn't help much.
      You could try N26 which has money protection (GDPS). There's also Revolut, but they use EMI than have a money protection cover (e.g. FDIC, FSCS, GDPS, etc).

      Hey! Absolutely, the Metal account is great for frequent travelling, particularly with the unlimited fee-free currency exchange and travel insurance. Although Revolut Premium which is cheaper may give you everything you need (except obviously the Metal card). Do check out this video review I made on the account: ua-cam.com/video/LHfaodbaCfk/v-deo.html - No it's not a credit card but you could consider it a prepaid debit card. ^Jonny

    Chase is better by far. Good interest rate on savings, interest rate on current account, roundups and 1% cash back. Has other good features such as scheduling payments and instant notification on everyday spending. Also good customer service 👍
