      Matty if you are going to try out Daggerfall please check out the DFUnity version, it’s the best and most polished version and has full mod support. There is a similar ongoing project for Arena called OpenTESArena but it is still in the very early stages and it will be a long time before it is fully playable like DFU is.

    Morrowind is indeed hard to get into. The first week of playing the game is gonna be a lot of learning, dying, frustrating and wiki-reading. Once the basics of the gameplay are understood though, the feeling of wonder and accomplishment that you get while playing Morrowind is absolutely unique and well worth the effort. I strongly believe Morrowind is one of the very best games ever made, and every Bethesda fans should at least pull through the aging mechanics to truly experience what the game is all about. Morrowind is a true adventure.

      Oh yes.. I got an Xbox after having played only 2D strategy games on PC. First game I bought wasn't Halo but Morrowind (I thought the boxart looked facinating). So as I was struggling with playing with the controller and 3D games in general.. I was attacked by a Kwama worker I ran into. I finally managed to aim the camera at it but none of my attacks could hit it. I died, 5 minutes into the game. I was wondering what sh*t I just purchased but decided to give it another go. Best decision ever.

    Morrowind is one of the greatest games ever made in my opinion. I will admit that it may be nostalgia speaking though. I bought a new pc just to play Morrowind and it led to one of my most vivid memories in gaming. A few hours into the game a man fell out of the sky and died, and 30 seconds after looting him I did the same thing. I immediately fell in love with the game. The lack of a compass and waypoints is something you would never see these days, but at the time it really wasn’t a thing in games, they didn’t hold your hand and expected you to be able to figure it out. In all honesty it’s something I miss these days.

    • @notimportant8643
      @notimportant8643 3 роки тому +3

      Started playing it recently and I’m really enjoying it. The magic is op but it’s op in a way that’s very fun. I actually don’t mind one bit that there’s no fast travel because of how fun traversing is but I wish that NPCs would mark stuff on your map. Now I don’t think you should get quest markers to specific items or people per se but I don’t think it’s handholding for a guy to mark an x on your map to a cave he’s been at before

    • @сергейдоронин-ю1ш
      @сергейдоронин-ю1ш 3 роки тому +2

      The old games tried to hold your hand, people just didn't bother to read long-ass manuals.
      Morrowind is very shitty in how it welcomes its player even if we take in mind other old titles. In classic fallout games you are forced to go through the dungeon filled with ants/rats, so the player can realise, how fragile the character is at the beginning. On the contrary, in morrowind you are immediatly thrown into the open world with no indication of your power level. You can easily wander too far and stumble upon enemies you can't fight and can barely run from. Not to say you are actually given the hit chance in Fallout, while there is no percentage given in Morrowind.

    • @HaydenRising
      @HaydenRising 3 роки тому +5

      I’m 16 and I can tell you it’s not nostalgia speaking. They really don’t make them like this now or ever really.

      The only thing I feel that Morrowind misses is people highlighting stuff on your map more frequently, like that Fighters Guild mission where you have to go to a cave in the other side of the world and the quest giver highlighted on your map where it was. I think that this kind of thing should be more frequent in the game, since it would help a lot while traversing in the world, while still not taking away that awesome feeling of asking for directions and making your way to the place, since there is no map markers or compass in the game, just your map and your sense of direction.

    • @cedarcat5266
      @cedarcat5266 3 роки тому +1

      @@сергейдоронин-ю1ш I know your reply is 3 months old, but I need to say something. Morrowind doesn’t welcome you at all. But what some need to understand is that that’s not a bad thing. There are two reasons for this. The first one is that the game DOES give you a sense of where you’re at in terms of power, as long as you choose to complete a couple quests before going off and exploring on your own. If the player chooses to immediately go off and explore, than it only takes once. Once you mess up, you know what not to do, and your not gonna go off and fight whatever like you did on your first try. To sum it up, Morrowind drops you straight into the game and instead of giving you a tutorial, intro, or something alike, it gives you a couple of simple quests to ease you into the game, and slowly hands the reigns to you, to do whatever you please. Also, the manuals don’t have in depth instructions for every single quest.

    I'd pay more than I paid for Skyrim for Switch and that was $100 NZD.
    I love Oblivion so so so much.
    There are games that you play that envoke a unique feeling when you play it, that game and feeling is different for everyone but for me BotW, Pokemon BW1&2, Oblivion and MS Sonic 2.
    For Oblivion, the wonder and peace I feel is unreal. Its so damn tranquil, beautiful nature even unmodded, the music ambience is unmatched.

    As a Morrowind OG i would say definitely look into Bloodmoon and Tribunal they’re both perfect additions to the game respectfully
    Bloodmoon is around 30 hours of quests on the island of Solstheim with the main quest revolving around the Skaal Tribe, imperials, and the daedric prince Hircine
    In comparison to the Dragonborn dlc from Skyrim, Bloodmoon offers a look at the early beginnings of life on solstheim. Just like in Dragonborn the quests are very inspired and offer reward over time, such as in building the first colony of Raven Rock yourself. The empire has just gotten involved with mining yet are unaware of what lies ahead.
    Tribunal: usually preferred more than Bloodmoon in terms of questing. This dlc begins with the player being awoken by an assassin while sleeping. They track the assassin to the mainland Dark Brotherhood guild. This journey takes the player to the Capital of Morrowind; Mournhold, and along the way get entangled in the affairs of two other holy tribunal, Sotha Sil and Almalexia. The quests take the player in unique dungeons designed around the buried city beneath Mournhold. You’re also able to go to the clockwork city, a creation made by the god Sotha Sil. This location appears in ESO, but was first seen in Morrowind: Tribunal.

      Morrowind ,Oblivion and Skyrim are all S tier. There is a lot more to the Elder Scrolls games than RPG systems and writing, neither of which are "shallow". It's relatively shallow in comparison to Oblivion and Morrowind. But presentation in Skyrim is perfect, and some game play elements were improved upon in Skyrim. Combat, dungeon and level design. Enemy design and variety. Skyrim is a deep game compared to most open world games. Even the RPG systems are deeper than most open world rpgs. It's a deeper progression system than Witcher 3 is.

    Had Daggerfall when it originally came out, but it broke when I think windows 2000 released and we switched to the NT based Windows (it might have been a DOS game, don'/t recall). Bethesda were super cool at that time, I think a couple of the staff were maintaining it as a passion project; I emailed them and a couple of weeks later a post arrived from the US to the UK with a hand burned CDROM with the patch/build that worked on Windows 2K. That was very cool of them, and earnt the company a lot of goodwill from me for many years. I wish I had the CD, but imagine that's what the GoG build is based on.

    Really can't argue with this list. It's understandable a young buck such as yourself hasn't played Daggerfall. I'm 43 so I played it when it came out during my freshmen year of college. I would simply suggest going back to it, like you did with Morrowind (still the pinnacle of ES in my opinion) and really give it a shot. It's incredibly immersive once you get past the 2D SVGA graphics. I would probably put Oblivion in the 'B' or 'A' tier. It's quests are very, very good, but it also kind of represents the beginning of Bethesda 'dumbing down' character development and the introduction of extremely obvious over-the-top level scaling.

    Hot take: Skyrim to me is B tier, especially compared to the masterpieces that Oblivion and especially Morrowind were. I didn't liked the streamlining of mechanics and roleplaying, I didn't liked the main quest that much (although the concept was awesome, the execution fell flat in it's face), the factions were a huge step down from Oblivion, the combat was clunky, the sidequests were formulaic, Skyrim just didn't caught me like it did with everyone else. But, even tho I didn't quite liked it, I still poured well over 100 hours in the game, because Skyrim has this black magic, this thing that it sucks you in and keeps you playing regardless of how you feel about the game. It's the same with titles like Minecraft, GTA San Andreas, Fallout 3, and etc. So I get why people love it so much, it just wasn't what I was looking for in an RPG.
    And if you're going to say that Oblivion streamlined the franchise before than Skyrim, I will respond that yes, you are indeed right, but the streamlining from Morrowind to Oblivion *makes sense,* as it didn't take away your freedom to be whoever you want to be, play the way you want. It improved where Morrowind was not that great, kept the great elements from it, and simplified some overly complex concepts, like spellcrafting and the nature of the combat. The progression from Morrowind to Oblivion is natural, whereas from Oblivion to Skyrim is... artificial. Forced. I felt like Skyrim was blatantly trying to appeal to the largest number of people possible with little to no care put into what they were actually doing. You can simply be the leader of the Thieves Guild and walk in daylight with the Nightingale Armor with the guards not giving a single crap about you, vampirism has no real negative consequence as daylight doesn't damage you anymore and the debuffs are easily overcome by enchanted gear, it's just these little details that annoyed me so much.
    People like to call Fallout 4 the start of Bethesda's downfall, but to me, all the seeds for Fallout 4 were right there in Skyrim and no one noticed it.

    Each Elder Scrolls Games has something that it does best: Arena for the whole Tamriel continent and a good villain. Daggerfall for most extensive RPG mechanics and stats. Morrowind for the awesome main quest and atmosphere. Oblivion for the best guild and side quests and good fighting mechanics. Skyrim for the most modern gameplay + best graphics + modding scene. So hard to tell which one is the best, but I would vote for modded Morrowind and Oblivion. Personally because I bought the GOTY Editions, hence I do not separate the DLC from the core game. I would say my tier list looks pretty similar, but Dragonborn DLC is in S tier. Honestly, I had a blast in that dlc because of how visually different Skyrim is to Solstheim, so when you went there you actually felt like you were in a different place. And if you play the game without fast travel and treat it semi-realistic where you wouldn't just constantly travel back in fourth .... you really end up missing Skyrim as you continue through Solstheim. It's one of the few DLC that almost felt like a new game to me rather than just a new quest line.

    ESO is even better now with the quality of life improvements from the recent major update that adds The Reach. Now you don't have to forget and go back into your Journal to see what you need to make for Crafting Writs anymore.
    And one thing they did that makes me so happy and wished they did much sooner, is they increased the Transmute Crystal carry capacity cap to 500 (without ESO Plus) and increased the amount you get from Reward Containers. So like Random Daily Dungeons give you 10 Crystals, Rewards for the Worthy can range from 5 to 15 Crystals, etc. Since you were guaranteed 50 Crystals from Campaign Rewards in the past, I wonder if they increased it to 100 or more now. Can't wait to see what happens.
    P.S. Imo, the DLCs after Summerset are probably just as good if not better. My favorite DLC is Northern Elsweyr, and the most recent one, The Reach, is also one of my favorites. Western Skyrim was alright but the land you explore in was probably the most enjoyment I've gotten when it came to exploring in ESO's Zones.
