      Yeah the chords weren’t complicated and he uses basic triads... but I think that’s his appeal as well and he adds in nice licks every once in a while

    Do musicians go overboard with the licks?
    Licks do fill up the space in a song but sometimes play a song simple is very powerful. But I do love hearing fills amd runs here and there. It's the musicians expressions besides how the song is already be played

    For me, this was an intense and rewarding "lecture". I have just two questions.
    1. How are the "gospel tritone chords" formed (14:20) Are there "formulas" to use them?
    2. What other modes can a keyboardist learn to enhance their gospel piano feel?
    Thanks again, Sean! You're a blessing!

    • @SeanWilsonPiano
      @SeanWilsonPiano  4 роки тому

      for 1. I am not personally using formulas to play... the way I do my videos honestly is to play what I feel instead of mapping it out... I add the site notes later, that was the chord that I felt liked playing at that moment 14:40
      for 2. Well all of them, I recommend studying all 21.. but that is a much longer discussion

    How are you stretching your left hand so much for those left hand chords @15:12? Is your keyboard more compact or are my hands really that much smaller than yours? I find it very difficult to do on a full sized keyboard like a Fantom G8.

    Sr Wilson...good stuff my man. I have 2 suggestions:
    At 7 mns 31 i think instead of the note C. It is c#.
    Right hand C#, E, G#, B
    Left hand B , A.
    And at 8mns 10s. The first is F# for the transition.
    The melody is: Bb, B, C, B, A, G.
    Chord : F#, G, Am, GMaj, Am, G

    Sean...much respect bro. Bringing to light musicians like Johan help expand so much. I started doing this years ago as far back as 80s through the nineties. Many of us in the African American culture hadn't quite adapted to it yet in our worship. And nor had various cultures integrated our styles and flavors yet either. Great video's you present.

      That had been my mission for the last 15 years. Grew up with classical and straight hymns; , Fell in love w black gospel/urban gospel and began learning in order to implement in my church. Started playing in a small baptist church to get taught more. Need to learn more Afro/Cuban, Salza too! To your point, I'm not the only one implementing these styles. I think as a "Church" we are on our way. Praise God!

    This is so much fun! Thank you for these videos!
    My two cents, and definitely, this is really hard to be 100% on the fly here, but I think those two funky chords at 5:44 are A(add2)/B and Baug7(b9). That C# in the A(add2)/B really jumps out at me, then it falls to the b9 of the second chord which is C. It's a little disappointing because then it just stays on C instead of maybe continuing to lead to the major 7th of C.

    • @SeanWilsonPiano
      @SeanWilsonPiano  4 роки тому
