As a retired singer/musician, who’s had a lifelong obsession with Maria Callas since childhood, and one of the few who are, and loved Pablo Larraín’s movie, I was leery about watching this video. I’m glad I did. You nail precisely what this film does so beautifully, and what is missed by those vilifying Mr Larrain’s refusal to make “just another biopic.“ Countless books, films, videos, etc. fail to capture the broken, tragic depth of loneliness, or the spirit of the woman as Mr Larrain does in his beautifully shot and paced film. Maria Callas has moved beyond mere history and into the realm of legend, and a mythology which can never be explained by so-called “facts.” Somehow that seems appropriate. I’m rambling, but so far yours has been the only (of the many) UA-cam analyses I’ve watched that understands, and beautifully explains, how some of us saw and feel about this movie. I’ve just subscribed and look forward to hearing your takes on more film favorites I see in your catalog. Again, thank you for sharing this perspective.
This means everything to me, thank you! It's really great to hear you enjoyed the fictional elements as much as I did, and how they allowed us to step into her perspective. Really hope you enjoy what's to come, can't wait for you to see!
Just tell me if you're tired of hearing: You're really good at this. And as a side note, you're voice is just right for a radio-like program which airs in the wee hours.
Haha I swear, kind comments never get old when I'm dying to share the things I love with people I appreciate, your comments on my voice included haha thank you so much!
Great! Expecially the final part, when Maria "uncovered a new, a true form of freedom"❤ really happy you pointed it out, I believe it's really important!
So happy to hear you dug that part, it's an element of the film that could go over heads pretty easily, but it's probably the very most crucial. Thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed!
Super pleased to hear this, I loved getting into the details behind her childhood, relationships, and early career, so it's the best to hear you enjoyed that as well, thank you so much!
Maria was from a broken home and had childhood trauma. The Starvation, the daily fights at home.. eventually led her to a distrust for human beings. Maria was a strong lady.. A Razia Khan II.., literally and metaphorically.
Pls see the movie before criticizing it. If you're an Angelina hater, you will always be a hater no matter how good she is as an actress. I loved this movie. I felt Ms. Callas emotions through Angelina ❤
Angelina does an amazing job portraying Maria, the film is very beautiful in all aspects, a pleasure for the senses. I loved it and I liked very much your video.
Yeaaahh I totally remember that, when Mandrax asks her, so glad you brought this up cuz now I vividly remember that line really catching my attention in the theatre, thank you!
I have yet to see the film. This video (and presumably the film) includes the unproven speculation that Maria became pregnant by Onassis. It has been determined that this story is false, as Maria had an early menopause and was unable to conceive. So, it is a bit of a disappointment that the "baby" story made it into the film. (Adds to the dramatic storyline I suppose....)
Delicious! Pablo Larrain's 'Maria' is a testament to artistry in cinema. Lucas, I'm a sub who spreads yr analysis. It's essential for both film creatives and mature & resilient audiences.
I can't thank you enough. Hearing my videos can inspire both new insight and creativity is fulfilling. Thrilled to hear the film resonated with you as well, thank you for everything!
I haven't seen the movie but plan to. However from the little I've seen in these UA-cam video clips I feel Angelina Jolie just doesn't have the class or grace of Maria Callas. She's just too rough around the edges.
Idk if I'll ever go back to the blue-background thumbnails but that movie looks really interesting, maybe I'll do a classic analysis on it when I return to that series
I wanted to like this yet I couldn't. Maria Callas, La Divina, La Callas was an Exceptional Talent and deserved more than a "Fake telling of her last week of life". This type of film making is Lazy. Lazy in the way of None of it is True therefore B.S.. So exactly what is the point? History is intact, solid, Recorded. Making Crap up because the Director/Writer can't be bothered to do actual research and deliver an Honest Portrayal of an Incredible woman of Immense talent is so Lazy and Disrespectful. This is why the Film Industry is Failing. No Truth. Especially when covering History. Epic Fail. Angelina Jolie gave a meh performance. I actually laughed out loud at the beginning scene, bad lyp synching, especially that lip quiver. This Movie is Crap. Watch "Maria by Callas" if your Truly interested in her and Truth because it's in her own words.... Not Made Up B.S..
Terrible embarrassing movie. Maybe it would have been better if it was about a fictional opera singer but really not Maria Callas.. because there's enough documented material of her to know immediately everything in the film in terms of her personality is far-fetched and ridicules, putting to shame the great artist and intelligent woman she actually was.
It's a useless interpretation of a director who clearly wasn't a fan and just wanted to Embellish her last days. Fake and Lies. So how is this art when it is Untrue? It's lazy and Fake. I want a True Story, Real as Real can be. Not a fake reporter or Delusional people that aren't real. So disappointing. So Fake.
A very refreshing approach to the biopic. Would love to discuss your thoughts and ideas, lemme know below
This movie was beautifully tragic, love how you captured that so well in this video, amazing work!
@shawnpierre5755 couldn’t agree more and thank you, that means so much!

Agree! Excellent analysis. Subscribed :)

@@lucasblue20 I'm looking forward to watching this movie!!! In Italy, january the 1st! Thank you so much
Well in real life annie stole intellectual property from her civilian roommate at that's her "discovery"
watching 'maria' captured all my fears about wasted youth, loving insecure men, and legacy beyond this shallow age of instant gratification in art.
You did an amazing job. Especially the last half-the analysis is impeccable.
Super pleased to hear this, I loved getting into the details behind her childhood, relationships, and early career, so it's the best to hear you enjoyed that as well, thank you so much!

I love Angelina Jolie, and now I love Maria Callas too! ❤❤

In the film she did mentions with Onassis she gets to be a girl again. Which reflect her needs of escapism
Yeaaahh I totally remember that, when Mandrax asks her, so glad you brought this up cuz now I vividly remember that line really catching my attention in the theatre, thank you!
Beautiful. Thank you Lucas
So glad you enjoyed, thank you!

However she still was used by everyone that claimed to lover her….thats why she was so angry…

Spot on! Thanks for the video 😊
Totally my pleasure! Thank you so much!!
Angelina Jolies superficial affectation is a pretty shallow representation of Maria Callas:(
Wow that was beautiful!
Means so much to me, thank you!!
Brilliant film, depicting the beauty and tragedy of life
I like the voice of the narrator.
Thank you ❤

Try going back to the Blue background movies explained, specifically with it's such a beautiful day
Idk if I'll ever go back to the blue-background thumbnails but that movie looks really interesting, maybe I'll do a classic analysis on it when I return to that series
I wish it focused on Callas greatness instead of the same Diana/Marilyn/Jackie O/Diana trope of " tragic, solitary vulnerable woman".
يا عالية المقام والورد في الأكمام ، الملكة أنجيلينا جولي بحبك كثير كثير

حياتو الملكة ماريا ، خادمك سامان بحبك بصدق عظيم ..
How depressing.
Yes, the film sucks. It is boring, it dark, it is. About a sic, lonely woman that cannot sing. Nobody.

I found it boring.

Not to me. I love it. Angelina deserves an Oscar. She not only becomes Maria, she's all women, everywhere.
@Cornfield09 Then you should go see a documentary about Callas, not a movie with its own artistic choices 😅
Copycat much annie?
Please stop romanticizing this movie sucks even if it was done in this way the movie sucks and the screenplay was horrible
