For a woman who didn't like what alcohol does to a relationship after Boggie there was Jason Robard a mainstream alcoholic but in her defense, drinking was pretty much part of the times.

This narrative of Bogart's personality describes a typical abuser. He definitely had anger management problems

True. But she was no walk in the park.

"A typical abuser." What's typical is the tedious woke-era trend of reducing complicated people to judgmental sound bites. This is such agenda-driven crap. Notice how there's virtually no specific examples of his "awful" personality? You can't even raise your voice these days without being accused of "anger management problems."

But Bogie met his match in Mayo Methot, his second wife. They were known as the Battling Bogarts for their plate-shattering arguments. Mayo was, by some accounts, much worse than Bogie. During an especially bad row, she stabbed him in the back with a steak knife. If I remember correctly, Mayo was a heavy drinker too (whereas I don't recall Betty Bacall being one) and certainly that fueled the frequent wars.

We are to work on ourselves and not work on finding someone that will deal with our mess. That is why patience and tolerance runs out.

The greatest day of my life was meeting Lauren Bacall as she came down the backstage stairwell of the Promenade Theater. She looked my very handsome husband up and down, then purred, "Am I going the right way?" I ran out onto Broadway in a delirium of happiness yelling "Lauren Bacall just checked out my husband!"

Lauren's autobiography is one of the best-written and most entertaining. It still remains a good read.

He certainly aged her, from a naive 19 yo , she looked so much older a few years later while he looked about the same

I have read that they both had extra- marital affairs while married. Do not know if this was true, but anyway. This was onesided and portrayed Bacall in only positive ways. Not objective at all.

Well...what if it is all true? Therefore objective.

You should see my sister in law , not married to a BOGART, how she protects her alcoholic hubby.

Betty never claimed that living with Bogie was sunshine and lollipops. She wrote in her autobiography that when she became pregnant with their son Stephen, Bogie threw a hellacious tantrum and demanded that she get an abortion. To which, she refused. She even remarked that it took a while for Bogie to warm up to their son. However, when their daughter Leslie was born, Bogie was fierce, protective, and very loving toward the little girl--a side Betty rarely saw. But she loved him. When asked how she overcame the hard times when life dealt her bad hands, Betty remarked, "I was married to Bogie and Robards, so I was prepared." Okay, I paraphrased, but it's close enough.

No different than any marriage. Marriage is hard work. And from I have heard elsewhere, she was no saint either, and could be difficult and certainly acerbic.

I read Lauren Bacall's autobiography years ago and its an honest story of herself. This bit certainly wasn't read by the maker of this bit of fluff.

Nobody's perfect. No marriage is easy and all couples argue. No different to anyone else. A gorgeous couple 💕🌺🌿🇬🇧

I don't know... I once had a v. volatile male relative, & the sudden outbursts of bad temper was pretty horrid & dreadful. Nonetheless, I think Bogart was pretty attractive..

If you stay with an active alcoholic you are actually accepting the abuse… Perhaps you should ask yourself why???
