2:11:30 Hiding in a corner in the dark is not actually "hiding" from the ghost. DISCLAIMER: If you don't want to know how the ghosts behave, then do not read what I have to say below. I understand that it could ruin the experience of some hunters out there who want to discover things for themselves. There's a lot to take in about this game so truncating the information is rather difficult, but the tldr; Ghosts can see in the dark. Hiding in plain sight will get you killed. There are places you can hide in every map, you just have to know where to look. Here's how the AI works during hunts; there is a four second grace period when the hunt begins where the ghost is invisible, will not move, and cannot kill you so as to give players a chance to run and hide. Once the grace period is over the ghost wanders around the house by choosing random waypoints (picks a room, walks to it, sets a new waypoint, rinse and repeat) until the hunt timer is up or it detects something. If the ghost sees a player and the player breaks line-of-sight, the waypoints the ghost will check will be set to near where line-of-sight was broken. In addition to that, there is a 50% chance that when the next hunt starts, it will immediately go and check where it previously lost line-of-sight with a player. The ghost listens for voices and active electronic equipment in your hand (normal ghosts have a range of about 8m of hearing). If your flashlight is on or you have ANY active electronic devices in your hand, it will be able to find you if it gets close enough. If you see your electronics bugging out like crazy, such as screen tearing/static on the photo or video camera, the ghost knows where you are. While wandering, the ghost is also checking for line-of-sight constantly. If you are hiding in a corner in the dark, the ghost pretty much has limitless sight range and the darkness doesn't effect them at all. So if you're in that cozy corner and the ghost walks into the room you're in, it will just swag on over and kill you. Players can sometimes survive hunts by hiding in corners of rooms like that because where the ghost looks is random. The room that you're in might not be checked at all, so hiding like that is essentially gambling. The player is faster than the vast majority of ghosts even without sprinting, so you should be able to escape in most situations that don't involve you getting cornered. Revenants move at roughly twice the player speed when they see you and move at half the normal ghost speed when wandering. Jinn, with the breaker on, move faster the farther away they are from players but will slow down to normal ghost speed when they get 3m from you. Hantu are only 15% faster than a standard ghost in cold temperatures, so you can outrun them as well. If you light a smudge stick near a hunting ghost (within 6m), it will force the ghost to re-enter its wandering phase and be unable to kill you for five seconds before resuming the normal hunting behavior. To answer your question about hiding, there are set places where you can hide in every map where the ghost cannot find you if you are quiet and your devices are turned off. In Single Player your mic is always hot and the ghost can hear you at all times unless you manually mute your mic, of course. In Multiplayer it can only hear you if you press push-to-talk; this is something people misunderstand quite a bit. Streamers can absolutely talk to their chat during hunts if they are in a multiplayer game. Maps with closets or lockers are the very best way to hide but you need to remember a couple of things. If the ghost sees you walk into a locker or closet it will rip the door open and give you a violent chiropractic adjustment. It's important to break line-of-sight before you hide, even if it is simply using the locker or closet door before you get in. It's also important that when you hide in a closet or locker to click and hold the door closed. Ghosts will gently open them as they walk by if you aren't holding them closed. In a map like Willow where there are no lockers or closets, you can only hide in certain places which is why this map is so deadly. There are no immediately obvious places to hide in Willow. One of the absolute safest places to hide is by the washer in the garage. Behind the garbage can in the basement near where the breaker can be is generally safe but I have seen people die there, so it's not 100% safe but it is very close to that. There is a cheeky place you can hide by pressing yourself between the wall and the glass door into the garage while holding the door against you. The ghost can't get line-of-sight to you there. Grafton has a few cardboard boxes in side rooms that you're able to crouch behind that are 100% safe areas. That shelf directly in front of where Vale died when she asked the question in the timestamp is also a safe place if you wedge yourself up against the backside. You were so close! Sorry about the novel of a post. I see this question quite a bit and thought I'd weigh in. I absolutely love this game and I can understand newer player's frustrations when it comes to evading hunts as I have been there myself. I don't tout the highest level or gameplay time but if my experience can help people who pose this question I am more than happy to offer assistance. Hope this helps! Protip for Ghost Evidence: Right now there are evidences that exclude one another so you don't have to search for one piece of evidence if you already have another. You cannot get both Freezing Temperatures and Spirit Box, EMF5 and Ghost Orbs, or DOTS and Ghost Writing. ie; If you get EMF5 evidence you will never have Ghost Orbs and the opposite is also true, Ghost Orbs means no EMF5. Fingerprints have no exclusions. This will be subject to change when new ghosts are added of course. When they implement Horror 2.0 they might also change evidences again so it's important to remember that this advice only works for the game's current 0.3.0.5 patch.
I'm actually immensely grateful for this. Some friends and I all got the game recently and our first session pretty much amounted to a lot of screaming and dying. Going to try again this weekend and I'll definitely be putting this info to use.
29:18 I love you silver, your trying so hard to be helpful, but instead of saying thingy, you innocently use a word, to describe one of the uses of the uv flashlight. XD
