This to me is symphony. There are some really great sounding engines in the world and that EMD 645 is one of them. You can tell if a locomotive is and EMD just by the sound it makes as it goes by.
Nothing on the rails makes a better mechanical noise than the EMD 2-stroke Prime Movers. My favorite is around notch 3-4 where the exhaust note gets really deep. Very cool to catch those 38-2's.
T H ran a 5 pack of 40's in stationary power plant peak shaving duty.....that's when you really get to hear em....and realize how bad they smoke, and how bad they leak oil....and how non romantic they really are
My favourite engine by far. Those 40-2s over notch 4 had a bass resonance that would travel through the ground for miles. You could feel an SD40-2 before you ever heard it or seen it! Can’t say that with today’s big AC units.
I think I would crank up at least one of those GP38-2s to help make it up the hill. Then again, maybe the SD40-2s would not have been working so hard. Never mind!

komradkolonel what about the emd 710?
That good ol' hovering sound, you betcha!
ALCO is better
David H no. GE is better
567, 645, 710 all of them.

Awesome awesome ! Hearing the engines roar upgrade without horn/bell noise ruining it is wonderful.

Such beauty my man. In the backdrop of nature. Perfect sync.
It don't get much better than this, almost as good as being there, great video.
The torque just threw my laptop from my desk..
F de jager The torque measurably changed the earths rotation, and spun my phone around, no matter how hard I tried to hold it back.
Anybody else notice the Waterloo (WLO) boxcar at 2:38? They have to be rare!!
If sound where an indication of power, these old beasts could pull the world.
Wow !!! what a sound. Pistons "pissing" under heavy load. Fantastic. :)
Looks like only 4 of the 6 units are running under power?
Whooo..excellent sound of the 70s on the Delaware River🚂🚂🚂🚂🎶🎶🎵🎵👍👍!!!!!
Great video, but what’s with the random audio dropouts every 8 or so seconds?
Probably just you
Proper locos! With some Extra Mighty Diesels on the front, ya know yer gonna get there. AWESOME sound!
Talk about slogging uphill... great catch, Anthony!
nice video and great catch of all 6 ns power on the freight train.
all 6 engines were working? The 38s seemed quieter with the 42s making so much noise.
RTS4018 the ß
Were the 38s running? I see smoke above them but not coming from them. I think they are dead in tow
Awesome catch on an all EMD lash up!
Sweet music indeed! The strain on the knuckle couplers nearest the locos must be ..., well, perhaps somebody else could find the fitting adjective!!
Super duper ultra mega high extreme? xD
Benjamin Esposti
Good one!
Great Sound!
Can someone tell me where those high hoods are going?
+ThePainTrain765 Given the Spencer city limit sign, CAE, CLT, or perhaps a turn toward Asheville?

That’s a pretty good grade at 5 row. Long as well. Those 3 SD”s had it though. No wheel slip and good motion.
Great sound from those GP38's!
really? they weren't even running.
Does the GP38's not have a kind of SD40 front? Not a GP9 front? :O
Awesome...music to my ears.
This is not 48 but Ole 97, you must put her into Spencer on time!
❤❤❤❤❤
1:40 "We got this, you guys just get out of the way."
Some legit ear candy right there
Why the other three SD40 is not operating?
NS has a 3 loco max under power rule
Other 3 were GP38”s
Them beast are pulling.
Lovely!
What is wrong with those gp38-2s?the engineer should have had those geeks helping to pull the train.
Look at all that power yeah baby XD
Those all look like for axle engines I like to six axles more horsepower and way heavier
MOOOORE POWAAAAH!!!!
Creeperboy (SpongeBob) MAXIMUM POWER!!!! AAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
MAX POWER
MAX POWER
More locomotives the better . Tell there are struggling some though.
