I took up lifting in the winter when knew I was going to race Speedgoat 50k. I started with Starting Strength but switched to Olympic Lifts training as soon as I could squat 1-1/2x BW. Needless to say, progress was much slower, but I really like snatch and C&J training. It did negatively impact my running and I just don’t have time for proper training of both. I’ve stopped lifting heavy weights for now, but plan to resume after Kodiak 100k. If I get into CCC and/or WSER in 2025, I’ll have to defer even longer. But I have the long view. Plus technique training for Olympic lifts is useful.

Olympic lifts are fun, especially C&J. Best of luck getting into CCC or WSER next year. Sounds like we have similar goals.

Your video just has been recommended. Very refreshing and fact based content.Good job and keep it going! I am training for a half marathon at the moment and try to squeeze in 2 gym sessions a week besides it. But I never train twice a day, so it seems like I am doing everything "correct" at the moment.

Thanks for your kind words. Will it be your first half marathon? Wishing you well on your training!

How do you do it on a daily basis? Lifting weights and running on different days?

Are you asking in general or my training? My training is 4 days running in the early AM, 2 days lifting usually around lunch or before dinner and a rest day. Since I’m more casual about my training now due to limited time, I haven’t had double days.

I was referring to working out once a day. @@BrandonToo

Oh got it! Depends entirely on one’s goal. In general, it is a good idea to at least alternate in a way that rests body parts and works out other parts. This assumes you’re progressively overloading.
