A good episode idea would be detailing the time that John Scott, a hockey enforcer who exists solely to protect the stars and fight with little to no offensive abilities was fan voted into the NHL All-Star Game. Detailing how the NHL tried numerous methods to shut it down and him winning All Star MVP would be a fantastic episode.
The craziest part is that he was one of the most hated goons in the league before all of this. Effective but hated, which is why the internet thought it would be funny to mockingly vote him in. I actually expected him to be pissed the fans were mocking him. Then when the league tried to mess with him, the fans and players rallied behind him.
A few years ago, Michigan students did a similar thing with their hockey team. Girls would get on Tinder to see if any of the opposing team that had come to town would show up and they then would print out huge copies of their Tinder profile to hold up at the game. Some even found that player's parents since the student section surrounds the opposing parent section and take pictures with both the player's profile and their parents
Hey off topic. I read your article about the California situation. I felt that. I wish you guys the best. You put so much effort into the SB brand and give so much insight into memories that so many people over looked. Wish the BEST. Keep it up ☝🙏🙏
That's why I never trust girls who always post pictures from same angle.. when you're hiding behind makeup, filters and angles, something is not right :/
Similar thing happened at Pitt a few years ago. The team we were up against in basketball had a player who was really afraid of squirrels. So the student cheering section printed out pictures of squirrels and the players name and one guy wore a full squirrel costume. I have no idea where one finds a squirrel costume.
Gabe and Jordan Farmar were actually BFFs when this happened - surprised Jordan didn't tip him off! This brings back memories I was at UCLA at this time
It's weird that these people who grew up on AIM or MSN actually put their phone number on the internet. As my group moved to Facebook half of us were freaked out people put their real name out there. They say there was less privacy back then and it isn't true, but it was all up to you what information appeared on the net. These days you've got more information automatically collected by phone apps than you could have thought about posting online in 2006.
You sound unreasonably paranoid. 99.99999999999% of internet users won’t have anything bad ever happen to them due to anyone they met on the internet. The chances you’re in that other .000000000001% is minuscule. You should seek therapy for your apparent crippling anxiety.
After the team losing as much as it has I'll spearhead the defilement of the pOSU just to get a damn win for once lol. Just gotta find some toothless trailer park "beauties pictures and set this plan in motion!
People of a certain age remember falling for something silly here and there on AIM, but anyone messaging you out of the blue named "SexyBruinBabe" should raise major red flags, but is also something no college male can resist.
Ahhhhh yess, the days when we used to call it "stalkbook" and would actually think twice when the hottest girls we'd ever seen friended us out of nowhere to give us toxic links to 'nudz'
You'd think it would be the opposite and people would fall for Catfishes easier. Maybe it's just that there's more catfishing now that more people use the internet.
Tbh 2006 I was more skeptical of the idea of people meeting online than I am now. Social media was pretty new and online dating was still seen as what weird people who don't have friends do. Now the idea of DMing random people is pretty normalized and we have apps like tinder that are massively popular.
Clara you went to UMD at the same time as I did. Both basketball and soccer fans at UMD routinely used the internet to mess with opposing players. Specifically UNC Duke and UVA
Go Bears! That Cal team, led by consensus second-team All-American and soon-to-be-drafted Leon Powe, needed a win to make the tournament. They got that win thanks to Gabe Pruitt and Victoria.
I remember when I was back in college in 2008 when Facebook was only college people I was friends with JJ Hickson and some other Carolina and NC State basketball players and you would just see them posting on there like normal people, guys who were going to be in the NBA next year putting up party pictures. This was before your parents and your aunt and your girlfriend who doesn't go to college didn't even know what Facebook was, so you had a sense of security knowing that it was just your college friends who would look at it and see what you wrote. It was a different time, it was still so much fun though.
That AIM sound at the end of the video actually triggered a reflex in me to check the bottom right of my screen to see who logged in/out of AIM... holy crap, lol.
Fun fact: Gabe Pruitt has an NBA championship ring; he was drafted by the Celtics and was with them until 2009. Benchwarmer or not, you know dude is saying "Who's laughing now" lol
