My dad on the drums!
ur dad's Reinhardt Melz? that's top notch music played with top notch musicians, I hope u're proud of ur dad
@lupash i am very proud! Finally picked up the bass recently hoping to play some gigs with him in the future. We were just in Bend for some shows he was playing with his friend Jarrod Lawson who is amazing
Killing it!
As a Sound Engineer that have recorded many groups and drummers... Your dad is a monster of the drums
Great drummer.
Rock/jazz sophistication at it's best.
Gino was 26 years old when he sang the original, and 63 when he performed this version. I have never in my life heard a singer sing every bit as good at 63 than in his/her mid 20s. Just WOW
Tom Jones
I was there. Wish I brought the album to be signed.
Yea,he gets even better and better !
Gino is a great example of how to take care of yourself as you grow with your living legend status. Brilliant.
Awesome
I just saw Gino Vannelli in concert on Sept 2, 2023. He was GREAT!!! It was a very memorable and wonderful concert! Thank you Gino - you are the BEST!! His voice is STILL incredible and his backup band is fantastic. We had a great time. He is so worth seeing if you were or still are a fan of Gino's!! We saw him in a small venue and when the encore came we were "invited" to come up close to the stage! That was such a treat!
I saw Gino on September 1st last year, in Annaopolis. First time seeing him. Then, again this past June in NYC. Totally spellbinding!
What a performer...im Speechless...What a voice...What polished musicians...Goose Bumps stuff...
Personnel: Gino Vannelli: vocals;

thank you
@@broskimedula5300 - It was driving me crazy, so I "borrowed" this from another cut...
Wow thanks!
Glorious, thanks for the info! One of the primary reasons why I became a musician was because of Gino Vannelli and the incredible band he had behind him.
I thought I heard a second keyboard beat couldn’t see it on the stage. Adds so much. Damn good show!
It has to be said. The quality of musicianship and arrangement and songwriting is quite breathtaking.
These guys hvnt missed a beat !
This guitar solo in brother to brother is one the top ten solo.. It to the point.. Not lacking on and on where you get bore with it.. How did we forget it.. I so sorry I don't who the wonderful genius guitar player is.. I only wish I was one per cent as good.. I give him five stars.. Without any doubt in mind

And dates from the late 70's.....
Yes. B r e a t h t a k i n g perfection.
OH... how I didn't want it to end!
Please... don't let it end Maestro Vannelli,
my "Earth God of Music."
Never... EVER let it end. ❤
It's so polished.
Go team.
Gino Vannelli never got a Grammy? ... mmmmm....
That says EVERYTHING about the Grammys!!!
And the powers that be.
He should have 20
.....write that again..
The Grammys are a joke. I haven't watched any award shows in decades because of how lame they are. Gino is one of the best singers I've ever heard and still can out sing most of those much younger than he is. Class act.
Grammy are totaly infiltred by freemasonry...
I met Mark Craney in L.A.in 1984.Mark was the drummer on BROTHER TO BROTHER. What an incredible musician and personality.
Absolute monster on the drums one of my favorites. His work on Gino and Tull and Ponty are legendary. RIP Mark.
That drummer is insane, the whole band is out of this world ❤⭐
Joe and the drummer horn players the whole group bad. Love it
Do you know who it is?
@@wtf_usa5597 ZORO on drums!
absolutely. total agreement.
The drummer is Reinhardt Melz
Gino and Steely Dan were the two finest rock jazz fusion bands of the 70's . I'm shocked that Vannelli isn't remembered so well in the U.S.
Perfect comment and question!
Let's not forget Pat Metheny, Lee Rittenhouse, Weather Report and many more.
@@carolelerman9686 Pat Methany on a WHOLE different level...that s a serious Jazzer...Gino s music is pop for musicians and they love it
I'm certainly not forgetting them ! I was talking about music with the vocals.
@@jayclarke9611 Yes he was, but did I mention him ?
You realize that this was done in one take, don't you ?
Real players, playing real instruments, combined with a great sound system.
And, NO AUTO TUNE on the voice, either !!
That's a killer performance but there's definitely some auto-tune on his voice
@@natetheeegreat yea lol
@@natetheeegreat I doubt it, actually. This doesn't sound any different than he sounded live when this album came out, and there was no auto-tune at the time. He's the real deal vocally.
No auto tune... it's obvious. Look at the duo version with a Dutch pianist... amazing . Gran Maestro Gino ...😍🎩
There is definitely auto-tune on some parts on the song (listen to 7:05 for a great example). But man, Gino's voice is still amazing today
Drummer is killing it.
Nailing this song live is an absolute nightmare. Probably one of the hardest pop songs ever.
It has like 1000 chord changes! It’s incredible how they nailed it!
Agree 100% - that song is hard! The whole album is a masterpiece.
As an audio engineer I saw Gino Vannelli performing live in the late 70s... spectacular sound quality and I believe that his other brother was the front of house engineer... one of the best sounding performances ever...
yep I agree, I got into this first time around, the sound quality as well as the music is exceptional
Ross still does the sound on his shows. The production is outstanding all around!
Gino Vanelli's Brother to Brother is like a movement from a Rock/Jazz Opera. But way beyond rock/jazz fusion work by other talented artists. The drummer is absolutely beyond five stars. Inspired musicians the whole bunch. For a live performance ... it's better than the recorded version. Simply electrifying and magical. I've been listening to Vanelli since the 70s. This is not retro legacy music. Its now. Timeless. Yes, absolutely classic but listen up ... Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck, Pink Floyd ... you get the association? The genius of their work never gets old, never dated. Decades, even centuries later, we never forget. If and when a time capsule of of late 20th century contemporary electric music is made, Vanelli's Brother to Brother will be included.

For a live recording the sound quality is beyond belief...well done the sound team.
Because it was mixed
And 12 cameras!!!
@@AleksandrsKarimovs Umm ...Incorrect...I saw them live as a member of a good touring Band on our night off in '91 ...we were blown away by the Sound quality
@@jayclarke9611 The sound on the video is mixed and produced. It's not what you hear with your ears for god's sake..
@@AleksandrsKarimovs As a Sound Engineer 50 years + I can tell you that not everything is produced and mixed. (That add cost to the production) I have mixed hundreds of live shows for television and NONE has been mixed or post produced. The show inn those shows was the one I mixed on the live show. But there is also how you produced. for the Felt Forum in New York I used 3 Mixers. One for monitors, one for the room and me mixing only for Stereo TV. And even if it was mixed the Live recording is crucial for the sound techs as the EQ is affected by the venue and they have to work carefully so the final product can be Re- EQ if needed or just re mixed.
What a killer performance. Extremely complex arrangement played with ease. A big wow.
Give Gino his flowers he always been a great artist ❤😊
This drummer is SLICK! Utterly fantastic.
I play drums but when I watch this I realize I dabble in drums 😂
I grew up in the fusion era of the 70s. Had a huge stack of albums, Chick C. Weather Report. Steely Dan, B. Cobham, Zappa, etc. But I must admit that I listened to Gino on more occasions than the rest. Those rich chords were so mesmerizing I just couldn't get enough of his music. Long live Gino!
It's the same for me. Gino is great! But.......hey man, the veeeeeery rich chords of Dan? Don and Walt are unbeateble
I hear you Bro. Steely Dan was right up there with Gino in terms of rich chords. My "non-fusion" friends would say that Steely Dan had "Martian" chords. I guess they didn't have the ears for upper structure complex chords.
Sound like you went through the same thing as I did.I attended something called "The World Series Of Jazz" in Pittsburgh in 75' or 76' and they played Storm At Sunup between every set. Been a major fan ever since.
same for me.
Some of the best music ever written. This has aged well like a great wine. So blessed I grew up in the 70's to witness this in its infancy.
One of the best bands, ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The recording is superb.
Cooking group effort !!!😅
Gino doesn’t get mentioned enough, consummate professional, very talented family! Great band! Those vocals. Omg!
I STILL mention Gino V ...among ALLLL the greats in the entire world 🌎❤
A typical unassuming Canadian, merci beaucoup Gino !! 🇨🇦
Props to the whole band. Flawless rhythm section.
Ladies and Getlemen, the amazing Gino Vannelli and..his band! What a voice, what arrangements ..what a band! This is a masterpiece!

Everytime I listen to Gino Vanelli, it reminds me of my older Sis, Vick. We went to his concert in Cleveland when I was a Senior in High School She passed suddenly of a blood clot at 65, in 2018. Miss you Vick❤. Ty for the great music/memories, Gino😊.
Poor Gino had to travel all the way down to Los and fight like a mad man to get the recognition he deserves I myself as a drummer my own career didn't take off until I hit Los Angeles... It takes perseverance and a lot of heart.. and the good old US of A.. before Canadian musicians actually get the recognition they deserve right here in Canada
Thank you, Rick Beato. For introducing Gino Vanelli and this song to me.
Same here!
Which episode? I have been asking him to feature gino for years.
@@andym28 Top 20 guitar solos of all time. When he introduced this song’s guitar solos, I immediately got hooked to it.
Yep Beato thank you.
same, top 20!
Forgot all about this guy! Wow has he still got it! And what a band! That drummer has some chops holy cow!
Why is Gino not in the Rock Hall of Fame , so underrated ...
Because he didn't go all the way with the man upstairs, as Dylan famously said.
....his soul was not for sale.....nor..his nether regions....
Because the R&R HoF is mostly bs. I mean Joan Jett is in it, for god sake.
That drummer is off the charts
I prefer Mark Craney, but really anyone that is in there is gonna bring it. Gino always has quality backing him up.
Amen.

What's even more remarkable about this superb live performance is that it's essentially a full-on, nine-minute jazz fusion jam. And Gino nails the vocal inflections throughout the often odd time signatures. And that falsetto towards the end is simply and effortlessly flawless.

My brother my dad and me are from three different generations, we don’t agree on everything, from punk rock, to ska, and Jazz, but we all agree on Gino vanelli, love him!!
If you know Gino Vanelli you know he was a drummer back in the day. Anyone who sits in the saddle better be great when its time to drive the music.
I've always loved Gino Vannelli.....since the 70's...my Uk friends hardly appreciated his genius and one of the best male singing voices.
Beautiful and intense.. been listening to Gino since his first album. Hard to imagine getting chased by security started all this..fm Wikipedia "Vannelli and his brother, Joe, moved to Los Angeles in 1972. Desperate and broke, they waited for hours in the parking lot outside A&M Studios, hoping to get a record deal. When Herb Alpert, the co-owner of A&M Records, finally emerged, Vannelli ran toward him and gave him a demo tape while being chased by security guards. Alpert signed Vannelli and released his debut album, Crazy Life, in the summer of 1973."

Back in the day, I had to learn a few Vannelli tunes, I thought, no sweat, here I go.
Boy was I wrong, the arrangements and complexities even per instrument are so sublime and difficult.
You better have blues, soul, funk, rock, fusion and jazz chops to cope.
I have much respect for the brothers and the musicians, great teachers.
It's remarkable that Gino is still singing all tunes in original key! What an incredible voice he has. ❤
I was in highscool when I first heard Gino's music. I think I was around 16 or 17 year's old. That was back on the 70's. All the girls used to like Gino. So that was an extra plus. If know what i mean. If you were with a girl hanging out and you had Gino playing, you were doing good. I never got to see Gino in concert as a teenager. I didn't get to see Gino until I was in 50"s. I took my fiancee and my Son, who by the way grew up listen to Gino from me. We saw him in Austin, Tx in Sept 2018. He was awesome. Glad I finally got to see him in Concert. I will always treasure that moment. Oh by the way I'm 62 year's old now. And still love listening to Gino.
Ditto, btw Austin that's SRV country! Cheers.

Who is the drummer in this show.... he is insanely good?
@@Loonutzy Sorry I’m not sure. But he’s had many great drummers. Gino started on drums as a young guy. I’ve always thought he likes to turn to his drummers often.
