I might make this but I'll have to... mull it over. (i'll let myself out)
🤦♀️😂😂😂😂😂
It might be the wine talking, but: 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah 😂😂. Only in the US…Mulled wine cake
😂😆🤣
Oh, no you din't! 🙃
Ever since Y2K, my mother only eats desserts that look like they were made with Franken Berry cereal. This will make her so happy. Happy Thanksgiving Chef John.
😂😂😂❤
This is an oddly specifiic desire from her, I have questions
Is there a correlation between Y2K Frankenberry cereal I was never aware of? Am i missing out?
This is the most 2023 comment of the day.
genuinely what do you mean
That flower garnish really puts the plug in that cake, chef.
I can finally eat my favourite winter time drink! Thanks Chef John :D
There’s something comforting about the unique cadence of chef John’s voice. I enjoy it and these videos remind me of searching up holiday themed recipes. Thanks for helping me get in the holiday spirit. ❤
I think if I make this, I will try not to replicate the “pucker pattern” with the icing…😂 guess it depends who’ll be partaking,
Am I the only one that thinks “oh boy, the next chef John just dropped” whenever he drops a new video as if he were releasing a heater EP
Yess! I'm so glad you posted this! I had this almost 10 years ago from a café in Chicago and since I moved from there I haven't been able to find it at all! It's so delicious too!
OT but your mom's pfeffernusse are *_FANTASTIC._*
SERIOUSLY they're my favorite cookie ever.
please tell your mom sincerely thank you.
Brandy and wine, hmmm, sounds like I could just use my favorite port
The color of the icing might make it worth trying this recipe!
Absolutely love Gluhwein! I can't wait to have some this Christmas season. Best cold weather drink... Especially served hot with a shot of rum in it. Makes me want to be at a German Christmas market.
I'm going to make this and then I'm going to make it with mulled apple cider and maybe replace the cocoa with cinnamon. I bet they'll both be delicious. Thanks for the great simple recipe! Happy Holidays!
Mulled apple cider...now that's a great idea. I was thinking grape juice. I might try both. 😃 [I don't like the taste of wine in cooking or baking]
Maybe use the pumpkin spice mixture?
A mulled apple cider cake sounds divine! And maybe instead of the brandy, use Fireball (cinnamon-flavored whiskey).
Sounds wonderful! I prefer apple cider to red wine, though with the added sugar I might enjoy both. 🧐
Thank you!! I can’t take mulled wine cake to a church meal, yes I can with apple cider
This reminds me a lot of the Cream of Sherry cake recipe that my family makes every Christmas. I honestly prefer the Sherry one, probably just because that's what I grew up with. But both have this really great way of staying moist and wonderfully soft when most bundt cakes dry out or don't cook evenly. And who doesn't love spiced wine? Definitely worth a try :)
Cream of Sherry cake?? Sounds divine. Inquiring minds need to know more...
@@mehitabel6564 UA-cam won't let me share any links to a recipe, but if you look up "Sherry bundt cake" it should come up. It's a lovely golden yellow color and is best topped with a drizzle of simple sherry-based icing, very similar to this cake. I've heard many delighted friends compare it to a pound cake with notes of a delicious but mysterious flavor that they can't name, which is obviously just the sherry. A lot of people use boxed cake mix and vanilla pudding mix which makes the recipe super simple and easy -- I personally use a from-scratch yellow cake recipe with a few tweaks + vanilla pudding mix. The vanilla pudding mix makes a world of difference and gives the cake a lovely texture that never dries out, even days after baking and cutting into. Important: you should use cream of sherry and NOT dry sherry (i.e. find the type that's in the alcohol aisle in a big bottle, usually next to port wines).
I usually make several of them every holiday season as they make great gifts -- most people have never had it, but everyone universally loves them from my experience. They're also easy to decorate by throwing some sprinkles into the batter and on top of the icing.
I love the color of the icing, and the idea of mulled wine in both cake and icing.
This is a very common Christmas Cake in Colombia for some reason or another. Generally the last step is to soak it in mulled wine for a few days as opposed to icing it.
This reminds me of Barbados black cake. But they use a really cheap wine, like Manischewitz.
Eye of Sauron cake!
Mulled wine and cake? Yes! Two of my favorite things!
Thank you so much for your help and advice,
I really appreciate your job. I wish you happiness and peace under the sky of prosperity. All the best.
Take care and have a good time
kinda wanna add dark chocolate chunks to this. i will be making it for sure
I will test that for you...
Chef John, my partner and I were having a very serious conversation today about watching what we eat. How dare you come out with this delicious looking recipe today. We mad. We'll let you know how it tastes.
I have the most awesome mulled wine recipe. I would love to pair it with this cake!!
That looks so delicious I'm going to try this thank you
If the cake passes the doneness test and then falls as it cools, it's usually because there's too much sugar in the batter. You have 3 kinds of sugar in here, brown, white, and the wine. I would try cutting the white sugar by a quarter cup. With the sweet glaze, you'll never notice. For a more subtle wine flavor, I might drizzle with an orange zest infused white chocolate ganache.
I like that idea and I will also reduce the wine a little longer for the drizzle. You could really skip more sugar if you've going to ganache it...
Mmmmmm. I imagine the wine fulfils the same purpose as Guiness in chocolate cake, which is divine. So I'm going to try this one out.
I had some really good German mulled/ spiced wine 10years ago...unforgettable!!
Chef John
You are truly the best of all UA-cam teachers
i am intrigued, for ive never heard of a wine cake
This recipe looks amazing.
Awesome will definitely make this!
I bet i could skip a step and use the mulled wine I already have! ❤
Thanks Chef John!
Chef John checklist:
✓ Shake of cayenne
✓ The old tappa tappa
✓ You are after all, the...
Thats a lovely cake!😊!
I am going to try it, definitely
Been watching your channel for years. You never fail to impress. Tell me you have a restaurant somewhere.
@FoodWishes01 why are you pretending to be him?
Why have a restaurant when they can make 10X the money on UA-cam with a fraction of the stress and headaches
@@louisazraels7072 Cause if HE makes it, it'll be better than if I do.
I'd love to see chef Johns take on mulled wine itself
It's beautiful. 🥹
That might be the prettiest cake I've ever seen.
I loved watching this, but I'm not going to make this one lol. I hate wine, and I gotta cut back on the sweets. But the performance! Spectacular
"...and add some cayenne, which might seem odd unless you've seen our previous videos." As we all know, cayenne appears in nearly all of Chef John's recipes!
... and I added more than he said too... 😉
awesome recipe chef , please show Arabic Areeka and Yemeni masoob recipe please
Love your recipes, Chef John. Please consider making a traditional Christmas fruit cake. I'd love your take on this classic Christmas dessert!
I HATE fruit cake, but I would try Chef John's recipe if he did one
italian panettone is a revelation if you've never had it before
@@fahr It's very delectable. :
Two missed opportunities of saying Cacau! Cardamom would also be nice in that batter.
Ohhh I wanna make this for christmas!
Same
It would make the house smell amazing, which I love during the holidays.
Chef John is the Bobby Flay of his Christmas cay - ke. 🍰
YUM!!
I think I just heard a creak followed by clapping. That must have been W.C. Fields standing up from his chair in the heavens to give applause.
In Australia, we have the CWA - the Country Women's Association - who do all sorts of things for all sorts of reasons.
Amongst many of these things they do, is often having "Bake Offs", one of the judging criteria is if there are lines on the base of the what-ever-is-being-judged that often appear from sitting the warm cake (or whatever) straight on the cooling rack. One way to prevent these lines from appearing is to put down a clean tea towel on the rack before placing the cake (or whatever).
It is pure aesthetic reasons, it doesn't affect the texture or flavour or anything else.
"Cake (or whatever)" for some reason is giving me the same vibes as a US MRE's instructions' "rock or something"
Awesome!!!
I just saw this on Great British Baking. She got good marks.
BRAVO CHEF😊❤
Watching this while your pecan pie brownies are finishing in my oven
Not about this recipe specifically, but I over cooked cakes for YEARS because I thought the toothpick had to be absolutely clean, like no crumbs or moisture. I didn't know we were looking for raw batter.
I was hoping for something like, "You are the Jackson Pollock of your mulled wine cake."
Yum😊
I can actually drink my red wine and eat it too😂😂😂
I think I would have dusted it with a little white powdered sugar and put a raspberry on top
I want to make this with mulled mead
Chef, you're not linking to the cheesecake video for the airplane-without-wings trick for the parchment paper
A cake for a holiday
when I saw the thumbnail I thought this was one of these Halloween cakes, that was meant to look like an eye
I'm not a very good cake baker so would you please tell me if there's a technical reason you prefer the oil instead of butter in the cake or is it simply taste?
"We'll also do a few shakes of cayenne...which might seem odd...unless you've seen any of our previous videos."
So if you use mulled wine ready to drink as the ingredient, you just leave out all the spices and sugar and you are good?
This could be easily converted into a scary Halloween eye cake.
Does this taste like licorice at all? Ive only had star anise in this hard tea cookie my grandmother made for my grandad(bc no one else liked them), ans all i rrmember is that awful black licorice taste and ive avoided all things wirh star anise my entire life... but this cake looks so good...
You know the video is gonna be great if chef John uses the word "provocative"
Oooooo.... My stomach bubblin!
Does anyone know if I can substitute gluten free flour for this? Want to make it for NYE, but I have a few friends with a gluten intolerance. Thank you.
👍👍👍
wow this seems really tasty! It's also one egg short of being completely vegan, do you happen to have any recommendations on what to use as a substitute?
For each egg: soak a tablespoon of lineseed in 2 tablespoons of water for 5 minutes or more.
@Flippokid Flax meal, I'm assuming?
1/4 cup of silken tofu or mashed banana would probably be fine! With the wine and other strong flavors, most substitutions wouldn't really be tasted.
Aqua faba - the water you get in a tin of chickpeas. Can't remember whether it is 1 Tbsp per egg or three.
@@patriciamorgan6545 Flax sees are different, but they may work as well.
I say this with the most amount of love and affection; that cake looks like it’s covered in mold spores
Delicioso 👍
I want to eat this then smoke a cigar with a glass of port while reading The London Times from 1883. This dish looks and sounds very Victorian to me.
I would have put a shot of espresso in this. I feel that coffee mixed with chocolate is one of the greatest advances of mankind since the wheel.
Delicioso 😋

what if we use witches brew?
I recommend making mulled wine pear as a dessert. Boil your peeled whole pear, on low heat with all the spices.
The pear is done when it’s soft. Serve the pear with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and chopped lightly roasted almond. Enjoy!
i make pears poached in saffron and topped with chocolate genache. It's delicious and displays great too.
@@prizepig ooohhh yum
I made this cake this weekend. It was delicious but my icing came out brown and not pink. Will use a different wine next time.
oof... good to know, thanks!
🎂 Mashallah 🤤 very 🎂 nice 🎂 yummy 🤤 and 🎂 delicious 🎂 cake 🎂🤤🎂 recipe
The first 10 seconds almost got me acting up
Ok so I’m not the only one
for wine, blends (according to CI like 20 years ago) works best.
ALSO, "something you'd drink" is wrong advice (WAY too often repeated).
the wine should be "something you wouldn't spit out."
Todo un arte

13 years of double dipping and making it hard to get the recipe have finally exhausted me.
Me, watching the icing:
hehe, lung biopsy cake
Me, watching the dusting with cocoa:
lmao, smoker's lung biopsy cake
is this recipe alcoholic or is that all cooked out?
Nice cake idea. Not a fan of chocolate with fruit, personally, so I think I'd sub it for more brown sugar, and dust the top with cinnamon 3:37 I'd have to use a freakishly small wooden spoon, just for the sake of the memes
That cake is screaming to substitute Raspberries for the wine.
The cake is excellent!
Way too much and too runny icing.
Cut it in half, or even a qtr; less fluid.
I put it in a 9" pan and it was quite shallow.
If you use butter instead of unhealthy vegetable oil, the cake´s taste will be up by two levels.
so will the dryness
asd
Something strange is going on on UA-cam. All of your videos and everyone else’s are showing 54k “likes” regardless of views. This has been going on now for several weeks.
It looks kinda gross tbh
well good thing you don't have to make or eat it
@@FancyBarnaclesI know, I just had a reflexive reaction. It kinda turned my stomach
It’s the unfortunate pattern of pink-on-brown in a pucker pattern 😂
@@TentinQuarantino_ikr
@@TentinQuarantino_ I agree, puce on brown… might for once resort to red food colouring to make a deeper wine colour yet retain wine flavour ?
Hate to say it because I'm a fan but from the thumbnail this is the most unappetizing cake I've ever seen. The edible pansy doesn't help.. the colors clash.
You made it look diseased... how is it possible to make a cake look diseased?
Thank goodness you don’t do that sing songgy way of talking it was so annoying
