As a sex worker myself, I was nervous as to who they would be talking to and how they would represent our community ; I’m very pleased with Inaris interview! She is a wonderful, intelligent and professional person and I am so happy they talked to her! Also in the past Natasha had seemed somewhat judgmental of Sex Work but this episode she seemed very accepting and cool with Inari so that made me happy 🌟
Thanks Natasha & Moshe, I had a great time! I feel compelled to add for whoever may be reading this: as a white/ cis-passing middle class sex worker, I inhabit an extremely privileged position in the industry not as easily afforded to my Black, Brown, Indigenous, and trans colleagues, and which I inhabit not by virtue of merit, but simply because of my privilege. Within a marginalized profession where SWers are subject to sexual violence and especially police violence at an alarming rate, BIPOC & trans SWers uniformly get it the worst. This is why decriminalization is so important, and I urge those who are interested in social justice to consider allyship to the cause. Here are a couple of resources if you'd like to learn more: www.aclu.org/news/lgbt-rights/sex-work-is-real-work-and-its-time-to-treat-it-that-way/ www.decrimnow.org/resources-1#/why-decriminalize-sex-work Thanks for reading! Xoxo
You know I've always thought of myself as someone who is pro-sex work and didn't like "look down" on sex workers or their lifestyle but I had a realization during this that I still think of like a back alley, midnight encounter where the sex worker is looking both ways before they cross the proverbial street Into some creeps car and that they get taken advantage of alot. This helped my perspective alot in that she makes sex workers seem like they're way more in control of the situation than their clientele, in a good way. That should be how it is, until they are on a more personally connected level.
Hi, thanks so much for being an ally! At the risk of being a total downer, I feel compelled to say that I'm a very privileged white/ cis-passing indoor sex worker, and the risky, terrifying working conditions you describe are a reality for many of my Black, Brown, Indigenous, and trans colleagues. I shared these links in another comment on this video, but in case you're interested in learning more: www.aclu.org/news/lgbt-rights/sex-work-is-real-work-and-its-time-to-treat-it-that-way/ www.decrimnow.org/resources-1#/why-decriminalize-sex-work Thanks for reading!
Natasha's laugh at 1:20:30 is the best! Keep your head up Natasha. Hope you are feeling better and having new perspectives. Everyone is handling the pandemic and lockdown differently. I think ones experience is only bad if you don't learn anything from it ✌️😁
I guess I should add I collect stuff from the 70s mostly books. This one’s been on the list but I’ve only seen it for a super high price on eBay or some site not trustworthy so if you don’t mind saying where you found it I would be quite grateful Thanks 😊
Fun fact: In the Old Country, Inani's grandparents were Ma & Pa Kettlecorn, but it was changed to Popcorn when they immigrated to integrate better into U.S. society.
This podcast has such good vibes
