***CORRECTION*** I need to add that geographically the Northerns’ range is north of the Tropic of Capricorn which is tropical. When I said they were more subtropical I was mistaken. In my mind I was intending to reference their climate as most Americans equate the term “tropical” to rain-forest type environments with zero seasonal change and constant rainfall. That is NOT the case for Northerns, their region does have seasonal change with slight temp drops and monsoons (wet/dry seasons). They can be found in the furthest most southern part that is still geographically tropical (similar in climate to the whole of Florida even though Florida is not geographically topical). Just for fun, did y'all know there are deserts and snow in some geographically tropical areas!! In certain places elevation allows for year round snow in the tropics :-o. My apologies for any confusion.
“Hopefully nicer than my ex wife” had me dead😂😂
TheXman970 Yes, my wife stopped what she was doing and had a chuckle. She wasn't expecting any humor in BTS videos
Has to be my favorite video I’ve seen on BTS’s yet! Awesome job! I said it before and I’ll say it again I’m really hoping to be able to work with you in the spring on acquiring a few. You should be a lock for the award...
Thank you so much! I hope folks vote 😉👍🏼
ReptileMountain.TV well I voted for you 👍🏻
Gratitude 🙏
AWESOME video. I've been searching for something like this. Great information, I love knowing the "wild" side of my animals and natural history of any animal is just fascinating.
I'd also love to see these "101" videos about other animals in your collection!
Thanks Jonathan! I plan to do more like this.
I wish/am in the process of trying to find something like this for each of my species. This is such a great, condensed nugget of information and makes a lot of sense of my own experiences with my Northern, Scaleycat. Such great animals!
If you ever cover ball pythons or common snapping turtles... let me know ;)
I have been definitely considering getting a northern and this is such an informative video!! Thank you for all your hard work! This was awesome!!
Thanks so much 😊👍🏼
Very informative video!! Awesome job!!
I LOVE THAT SHIRT!
I really like this video thanks TC.
Very informative! Can’t wait for part 2! I’ve always wondered what the ideal uvb lighting is for a northern bts I tried looking at the exo terra lighting index chart but they don’t have any for blueys :/
I don't even have a Skink but watched the whole thing. Great video!!
You rock!!
Your a god sent! Wealth of information
Thank you:)
Thanks Genny!
I love your Videos
Thanks Donna! :-) You know you're the best!
All four of them on the table 😍
please do one like this for the IJ
I will. Check out Episode 1 for starters. 😉👍🏼
ReptileMountain.TV thank you. love all your stuff
Thanks for this video!!! Also loved the ex wife joke lmao 🤣
Definitely come to Australia! you can go anywhere in the bush near where I live specifically and see BTS everywhere
I actually just got back from there! It was a wonderful time. Lots to enjoy!
I just got my first baby Northern Skink (2 1/2 months old) 4 days ago. She ate as soon as I put her in her enclosure and the next day. She finally pooped last night, but now she hasn't eaten in the last 2 days. She is very comfortable with me picking her up, she isn't stressed out. I've tried chicken duck venison fruits. Any suggestions? . She actually pooped IN her food dish on top of her food. And how often should I put calcium with D3 in her food?

My female T s intermedia breeder is extremely defensive when I take the babies out, she charges and follow my hand around the terrarium as long as it takes to get the babies out. When the babies are out she is no longer displaying that treat.
At about what age would you start increasing the veggie/fruit intake and lowering the protein? I believe my skink is around 6 months old or so
I start the switch around 1 year. Sometimes if they are huge already at a younger age I will cut the protein back a tad earlier.
Where’d you get those stacked enclosures there id love to get those for my blue tongue business
They are ExoTerra Brand Terrariums size “large low” on a custom made shelf. 😁 you can buy them on Amazon.
I like that thing you say at the end, im started saying it 😅
Haha awesomeness
Is it ok to put moss with live plants in the tank? Is there any plants that I SHOULDN'T use?
Yes thats fine. I believe ReptiFiles.com has a list of safe plants
My lil guy, Uzi, looks identical to phineus. Looks like his son lol
This is the place to ask this...
Does the intensity of blue in the tongue change with age or mood or diet? Does it have any correlation to quality of the animal? Do some subspecies have bluer tongues than others?
Great questions! There isn’t any data on ontogenetic color change that Im aware of how I know that Tiliqua gigas ssp. have less blue than the Tiliqua scincoides ssp.
Hey! I have put a lot of your knowledge into my own blue tongues here in Australia, but I just wanted to know if you have any Shingleback lizards and if you could do a video on facts/care about them? :)
Thanks for watching!!! I don’t have any shinglebacks yet... they are a tad rate and pricey here (6k or so). If i get a chance to worknwoth some i will certainly do a bunch of vids 😊👍🏼
I have 4 and I'm In Australia.
In Australia they're like $150
7:06 straight up savage
Indeed 😉
Could you house your blue tongue skink in a large tub instead of a 55 gallon tank? (I’m on a tight budget)
I as long as you can regulate heat and it has 4.5sqft min youre golden.
ReptileMountain.TV Thank you!
Should I get an Indonesian blue tongue skink as my first reptile?
If you want any Blue Tongue Skink then I recommend waiting to get a Northern. If you truly want an Indonesian because its an Indonesian then get one by all means. The better first reptile would be a Northern in my opinion.
How did you go about getting a male and female seeing that they are hard to sex.
Either buy a sexed adult or buy 4 babies and hope for good odds.
7:08 savage on yeah and don't merauke get chubbier than northerns
Lol. Ahhh Kimberly...lol. Actually Northerns are the heaviest bodied. Meraukes are the longest but more lean.
I'm pretty sure your eastern is a northern. Easterns have black lines down their eyes. If u don't believe me search it up , I breed these little fellas
Thanks for the comment. Its pure Eastern with rock solid lineage 😉
ReptileMountain.TV oh ok no problem
👍🏼👍🏼😀
Grait vlog love all the info, keep up the good work.
