    Talk about having a “EUREKA!” moment…thank you soooooo-very-much indeed! I’ve just started watching your fantabulistic instructional video-tips today and “you’ve really opened my eyes…after I’ve been trawling UA-cam piano-playing video-clips for the past few years” dear Sir!

    As those young people say today, that was too cool. I'm a piano Newbie, and recently I learned several things. One, a Beginner piano player has to prepare for at least a year before starting their courses.
    Makes sense, there are no miracles. I joked that I had two left ears all my life, and bought a piano after my retirement. I will use those tips and study the keyboard.
    I'm almost "fluent" in chord inversions in Major chords, I have to tackle minor, diminished and augmented chords soon, and then sevenths.
    I just recently started navigating around the circle of fourths, just the chords. C to F to Bb to Eb to Ab to Db to Gb to B to E to A to G to C. And in all inversions. Of course, then comes minor, diminished and augmented. Knowing this is helpful. If you have a trick for doing this navigation, that would be great.
    Merci beaucoup.

    3:57 What's with the D major coming into the picture? That's a mistake right? Or am I missing something?

    • @PianoGeniusCom
      @PianoGeniusCom  29 днів тому +1

      Thanks for including the timestamp so I could tell what you're referring to. In order to not crowd things, the continuation of Major/minor chords continues on the right side of the screen, and at that 3:57 mark my LEFT thumb is on D but it's not marked like the C and E on either side of it, BUT: If you look at my right-hand thumb, that D is marked up and shows the "pathways" between the Bm chord to it's left and the F#m chord to it's right. Hope that helps. 🙂

    THAT is extremely good, and helpful, in my songwriting, etc. Sounds weired, but I'm multi-instrumentalist, and (embarrassed)...I've never "put that together", in my mind. Thanks SO MUCH...this truly DOES help...and I do this all the time (on guitar), but not keyboard. This just fueled my songwriting/composing.

      @@PianoGeniusCom It truly is amazing...how we "get into ruts", old habits and methods, and sometimes MISS the obvious (on keyboard, because of repeating note layout, up-or-down scales), you'd think I'd notice this...I DO see and follow other patterns on keyboard, but honestly ... never thought about this one. This vid was GOOD, and VERY helpful. --- Doug ("Crossbow"), former pro touring (retired), songwriter/composer, BMI ..... 7 simple notes, and 5 semi-tones...you'd think music would be simple (and it is, really), but there's Soooo much to know on the subject. Great stuff, thanks again

      To me, the cool thing about piano is that you can SEE how the chords are laid out and related. If I was learning Am, C, Em on the guitar playing open chords, the shared notes wouldn't be obvious at all to me.

      @@PianoGeniusCom That's exactly right. VISABLE notes/chords and interrelationships. My keyboarding (live) began on tour, at a show, when keys man called, couldn't make the show and there wasn't enough time to get another (plus wouldn't know the sets). I bounced from guitar to keys, depending on need/song, often doing BOTH (alternating)...it was actually FUN. Can't thank you enough for what you do...and I should have picked up (better) on this important point....sometimes we're too close to the trees to see the forest ???
      All the best. --- "Crossbow"

    I couldn't figure the sequence of chords visually I had to count keys to get the Third note by checking the interval between the middle and the adjacent note I'm holding from the previous chord to see if it's a 3 then I'll count 2 and vice versa...tried to figure them visually but failed until I get caught on the black keys that's where I really mess things up

    circle of fifths!

    • @douglasfuqua7082
      @douglasfuqua7082 3 роки тому

      Yes...but connecting a series of notes/chords/progressions SYSTEMATICALLY (as seen on a keyboard) is NOT so clear on the Circle of Fifths. His explanation here opens wide the door of "progressive" songwriting. True, it DOES follow C.O.F., but VISUALLY on keyboard (relative notes in a chord & holdover notes to "flow" into the following chord(s). Good comment.

    Hello Tim
    I'm not sure if you'll read this comment but I'd just like to tell you that I have waited and searched for more of your content ever since you posted that first video. It impacted me so much and gave me hope, since i don't have any classical knowledge of the piano. And it's been over 5 to 6 years or more now since that first video. I hope and pray that you continue to teach and share us your experiences.
    And thank you❤️
