Cool. I didn't think besting starcraft was even possible. Lol. I wasn't great with starcraft either~ I just played a lot of custom maps using Map settings and it was a lot of fun. They really put creativity in their custom-made games.
Ken, for being 3rd best in the game, has the most obvious out of all the movesets of the shotos. It may not be a big thing now (as people have gotten around it) but in 2003 there wasn't many Yuns, and Ken's techniques weren't all completely discovered. This combined with the fact that Daigo wasn't completely experienced with Yuns (and more experienced with mirror matches/stereotypical characters you'd see from SF2/SFA3 (like Zangief=Hugo in terms of play style)) he really didn't have much chance
the only answer is practice/study, dedicated practice, and competition (real ppl to play, especially ppl who are also wanting/willing to improve) so you can gauge your own skill (ie find out what your weaknesses are so you can work on them) 3s has been out for awhile, so watching videos for inspiration also helps, but nothing can substitute for playing with another human player
The most fun matches to watch are between these 2 guys. Seems like they both can throw each other off their game a little bit but also bring out the best in each other
Yun players use Genei-jin because it's pretty much the whole reason he's good at competitive levels. You can play with other supers and do well, but those don't fit his play style as well. As you should guess from the dive kick, Yun is meant to put on pressure, and Genei-jin is one of the best moves in the game to do that. So of course you just do whatever to win, especially because some of these guys actually get money for winning.
@testtube173 when daigo tried to counter yun's special but kens special can only get through one hit before he get hit from the 2nd hit of yuns special....does that make some sense?
KO is so good, best Yun player hands down, I just love how Diago uses ken though against the much faster, yet more techincal Yun. Its just awsome to see Ken used so methodically to still be able to compete with what I think to be more dominant Chun and Yun's
Ending a combo purposely to start another combo without hit point reduction. KO simply missed a combo and happened to get another one out right after, so he didn't do a reset. There's also stuff like mid air resets which are pretty neat, though none are displayed in this match.
youre right but let them have it their way. im sure we all are easily impressed when we see something cool the first time. i know i was when i watched this vid years ago.
This tournament was way back, when Yun wasn't nearly used as much as he was now, and Ken was very obvious to what he would do. Yes, there's a tier difference. Although Ken is top, he's just very obvious. Doesn't have a huge range of attacks. Shoryuken, Overhead kick, Hurricane Kick, ticing into throws. They all have amazing priority and damage, but if you see them coming (it's pretty basic moveset), there's nothing you can do. Daigo didn't have 100% experience vsing Yuns at the time anyway.
generally, the way that tourney rules work is if you never get bumped out of the winners' bracket you have to lose more times than you have to win in the grand finals. example: the tournament that i won i never got bumped out. my final game i only had to win best of 3, while the other guy had to win best of 5.
The best match I've ever seen. By far. Daigo owns K.o's ass. I don't care if he lost. Daigo did some spectaculer shit while winning K.O just won, he didn't do anything out of the ordinary really. + Yun is the best character in the game and by far the most cheapest.
its sick how daigo won the first set 3-0, then KO took 2 games on the second set, then daigo tied it 2-2 second set, then KO won final round. that was probably the most exciting 3s evo event. 1st set - daigo 3-0 2nd set K.O 3-2
I really felt like K.O. was relying on Gennei-Jin all this time to save his ass. No really... it's like the only thing I see him do the first chance he gets... Take out the Gennei-Jin and see how far K.O. gets with Daigo.
How the hell did Daigo lose the tourney? If you count the wins from both videos, the score is Daigo-5, KO-3. So how did KO win!? Did the video creator leave out some matches or what? Cause from what I was seeing, Daigo was wiping the floor with KO.
No way, man. Ken's right up there with the best of them; Chun Li, Makoto, Dudley, etc. K.O. just plays a very good Yun. No disrespect to Daigo, but K.O. knew how to keep him on the ropes.
@IRaiiDeNI i wouldn't say "raped" since it was a pretty close match... daigo won 11 times ko 9 times, it is just that KO didnt win them in row and that's why he lost
Like it matters, K.O is the best Yun, and Yun is top most tier. I mean, I love Daigo like hell, and I always favor him even over Yun (my favorite players, even though I play Ken and Yun secondary) -- but there wasn't much of a chance. If Daigo messed up once, and Yun had full super... GG, because you can't parry hit confirmed Genei Jin.
I wasn't saying that now was I? I think I'm actually fine with Urien's Aegis reflector, because you can't abuse it as much. There's a fine line between a good super and just abusing it for tournament use. =\ I think Yun players do the best job of that. Aegis reflector is pretty cool, they don't rely on it just to win at least.
how can if effect you? elaborate how it actually effects you in any way other than mental insanity. if it does effect you than there is something wrong with you.
actually it woz 3-2 to daigo in the beginning/befor dis vid +2 for k.o. +1 for daigo that make is a draw. i mean there both my fav playas but out of them i like daigo more
Terran could nuke the **** out of zerg. Zerg's only advantage is that it can mass-produce hydralisks and mutilisks fast enough to outmass the protoss and terrans. Terrans were top-tier however and can just abuse tanks like crazy.
i think ur referring to those other sf games where capcom tried to take it 3d and failed miserably. i 4get what theyre called, but ya they sucked. sf4 however wont be out for a while, and it is confirmed to be 2d
There really arent too many cheap characters in SF . Kens combos are NOT easy to master. ANd even if you can master them, to be like daigo youd have to know when to use each one. Its all skill.
No one said it was perfectly balanced (look at the broken Chun-li for example). You just whined about Daigo losing to Yun when Ken in fact is just as good as him.
@frenzii3s i can see why u feel this way because so many people hyp up daigo so much but he does not suck. because if he does then that means ko does as well considering the match came down to the wire and ko who you find to be way better allow him to get that far also had that last special work this match could have turn out differently. plus dagio place 2nd in this tournament which is not bad.
its was good battle.. but i think its too many matches.. cas if it was 2/3 daigo would have took it... but cant say much about the rules.. besides daigo got better tactics. but ko got some lucky breaker...
@jordanshah if you ask me he's tottaly the best player ever .. just watch the 2010 afterhours vs sabin .. you'll understand what im talking about .. arturo sanchez didnt know what he was going up against ;]
Yun by far the most cheapest???? Sorry to say that, but what about Ken????? Daigo is a monster, ok, but Ken's combos are wayyyy too easy to handle.. And to master. He's strong. He's quick. He got deadly supers. He got good defense. He's among all the Shotos. I don't know why I got to tell ya this.
Yeah, all shotos have a "pretty basic moveset," but the amazing priority and damage is what I'm talking about here; not to mention all the combo abilities that Ken has. Either way, I do see how Yun can be considered higher tier than Ken, but I don't think it's that big of a difference.
be a little more humble next time, maybe you will realize that that there are always reasons to everything...for one...daigo always prefers to stick to ryu/ken...because he wants to stick to one path...for another...yun is just such a better character than ken...if daigo were using yun as well he would no doubt destroy KO and HE would be the one parrying *EVERY* single attack of KOS without missing a single beat and then you would truly see his speed and skill as a legendary player
there's no such thing as perfect balance, that is just for people who have wishful dreams...people say starcraft is "perfectly balanced" in reality zerg has a disadvantage because it's so weak...in fighting games this Hugo character is very slow thus he always loses...the imbalances become noticed at high level play so only noobs claim that something is "perfectly balanced"
Nope Hylatt is right noobs can own with ken. His moves do way to much damage. At the start of a round do a jump in roundhouse kick see how much damage it does or even ah roundhouse sweep. Nuff sed.
how many rounds where there played? thats far to much o_O
Cool. I didn't think besting starcraft was even possible. Lol. I wasn't great with starcraft either~ I just played a lot of custom maps using Map settings and it was a lot of fun. They really put creativity in their custom-made games.
Real nice matches.
how many rounds is this fight ? on the previous vid its like 2 out of 3 sets made of 2 rounds each 1 set
Ken, for being 3rd best in the game, has the most obvious out of all the movesets of the shotos. lol the first person that stood up at the end couldnt decide wether to clap or throw up his hands.
KO won the tournament, Daigo got second. The same thing happened in 2003. Now as far as valle, daigo didn't play him in 3s until 2006.
Are there any vids of Daigo fighting Hayao? I really think that would be interesting...
the only answer is practice/study, dedicated practice, and competition (real ppl to play, especially ppl who are also wanting/willing to improve) so you can gauge your own skill (ie find out what your weaknesses are so you can work on them)
3s has been out for awhile, so watching videos for inspiration also helps, but nothing can substitute for playing with another human player
So the final score was 4-4? Or did I miss one?
The most fun matches to watch are between these 2 guys. Seems like they both can throw each other off their game a little bit but also bring out the best in each other

wat does Yuns special do
Oh, the irony of this little gem from three years ago.
KO is so good, best Yun player hands down,
I just love how Diago uses ken though against the much faster, yet more techincal Yun. Its just awsome to see Ken used so methodically to still be able to compete with what I think to be more dominant Chun and Yun's
RAEN74 Exactly! KO Yun was far ahead of his time!
Ending a combo purposely to start another combo without hit point reduction. KO simply missed a combo and happened to get another one out right after, so he didn't do a reset. There's also stuff like mid air resets which are pretty neat, though none are displayed in this match.

huh what the?? didn't Daigo win 5-3 from both of the vids?? or is this not all of it
So Daigo actually beat KO 5-3 but because of winner's and loser's brackets he needed to win more? Am I counting wrong?
so if Daigo is the best in Japan, when who is the best in the US?
how crap!!! Yun not gettin let his guard down, at all..O_0
generally, the way that tourney rules work is if you never get bumped out of the winners' bracket you have to lose more times than you have to win in the grand finals. example: the tournament that i won i never got bumped out. my final game i only had to win best of 3, while the other guy had to win best of 5.
wait a bit,
how 'bout we ask firawith 4 da answer?
great game by ko !

1st set - daigo 3-0
2nd set K.O 3-2
man in this vid is Diago 1-1 KO and in the other vid is Daigo 4 - 2 KO. i think i missed something :/
I really felt like K.O. was relying on Gennei-Jin all this time to save his ass. No really... it's like the only thing I see him do the first chance he gets... Take out the Gennei-Jin and see how far K.O. gets with Daigo.
his name is KenzO thats all i know he's a fellow japanese player of daigo
I'm suprised that Daigo didn't climb up the ladder in the losers bracket since he's so beastly with Ken.
sweet...
Daigo came from losers bracket, meaning he had to beat KO in two sets to win. He beat him in the first set, and lost the second set.
Some cat who goes by the name of Alex valle, he defeated Daigo back in 06.
I'm happy to finally find a vid of Diago losing for a change.
2:40
SUPER JAB!
How the hell did Daigo lose the tourney? If you count the wins from both videos, the score is Daigo-5, KO-3. So how did KO win!? Did the video creator leave out some matches or what? Cause from what I was seeing, Daigo was wiping the floor with KO.
as soon as daigo heard matchpoint ko he went sooo hard
No way, man. Ken's right up there with the best of them; Chun Li, Makoto, Dudley, etc. K.O. just plays a very good Yun. No disrespect to Daigo, but K.O. knew how to keep him on the ropes.
IT IS of fool to say "There's definately a huge tier difference". RYU VS YUN now we are talking about a difference
hahah danggg just awesome woo good old days =]
@IRaiiDeNI i wouldn't say "raped" since it was a pretty close match... daigo won 11 times ko 9 times, it is just that KO didnt win them in row and that's why he lost
Daigo, what kind of stereoids do you use? YOU'RE ABOVE ANY MORTAL! :P
Amazing match!
Ya man! Starcraft is awesome! Something else to talk about other than 3s all-the-time.
2:24 "Oh reset!"
That wasn't a reset. The crowd also seems to get excited by the most unimpressive things...
Like it matters, K.O is the best Yun, and Yun is top most tier. I mean, I love Daigo like hell, and I always favor him even over Yun (my favorite players, even though I play Ken and Yun secondary) -- but there wasn't much of a chance. true say, but i don't no wots goin' on but if u go on the matches b4 the scores were 3-2 to daigo
I wasn't saying that now was I? I think I'm actually fine with Urien's Aegis reflector, because you can't abuse it as much. There's a fine line between a good super and just abusing it for tournament use. =\ I think Yun players do the best job of that. how can if effect you? elaborate how it actually effects you in any way other than mental insanity.
if it does effect you than there is something wrong with you.
That's exactly my point... thank you!
Keep him on the ropes? He lost nearly every set lol
So KO actually won this tournament? Also yeah I agree with your statement.
daigo's boxer = omg
actually it woz 3-2 to daigo in the beginning/befor dis vid +2 for k.o.

Daigo got his revenge at SBO.
O, I think I know how it went, first two rounds were practice, because at R4, announcer says Round 2 - KO
Thanks for the clarification. This had me confused. :-)
daigo came from the losers bracket, so he had to win more matches.
There really arent too many cheap characters in SF . Kens combos are NOT easy to master. ANd even if you can master them, to be like daigo youd have to know when to use each one. Its all skill.

calm down son me and your mom are worried about you

its was good battle.. but i think its too many matches.. cas if it was 2/3 daigo would have took it... but cant say much about the rules..
besides daigo got better tactics. but ko got some lucky breaker...
daigo still better in every way.. he is more versatile...
This Yun Player Pwns !!
Nice fight
Actually I think Ken has a slight advantage even, haha.
Rock concert
err.. not even. they're VERY evenly matched players, K.O. probably being the slightly stronger of the two (for starters, K.O. won evo2k4 as well).
Yun vs Ken is a 5-5 match up.. You have no idea what you are talking about
how the fuck daigo lose he beat yun more times than he lost to himm wtf!
@jordanshah if you ask me he's tottaly the best player ever .. just watch the 2010 afterhours vs sabin .. you'll understand what im talking about .. arturo sanchez didnt know what he was going up against ;]
3:56 was some bullshit lol
seriously? KO's japanese...he hardly "destroyed" daigo...
Oh my god yo
that finale by K.O was amazing!!
One of the best fights I've seen Daigo and K.O fight in so far
If I were there, I'd so be applauding because this match is so awesome! You should have won Daigo!
Daigo is AWESOME, but KO is too
Yun by far the most cheapest???? Sorry to say that, but what about Ken????? Daigo is a monster, ok, but Ken's combos are wayyyy too easy to handle.. And to master. He's strong. He's quick. He got deadly supers. He got good defense. He's among all the Shotos. I don't know why I got to tell ya this.
too bad daigo lost
but he's still the best
daigo idol woooohhhhoooo !!!
Ewwww. The thought of Daigo playing a non-shoto character is just wrong.
daigo never ceases to impress
I think it's how you play with Ken. I'm pretty sure a newb can't play Ken.
Yeah, all shotos have a "pretty basic moveset," but the amazing priority and damage is what I'm talking about here; not to mention all the combo abilities that Ken has.
Either way, I do see how Yun can be considered higher tier than Ken, but I don't think it's that big of a difference.
Kenji Obata
Damn always love me some sf3 matches.
lol ok
i dotn like watchin daigo vidz theres no surprise hes gonna win lol
kenzo
be a little more humble next time, maybe you will realize that that there are always reasons to everything...for one...daigo always prefers to stick to ryu/ken...because he wants to stick to one path...for another...yun is just such a better character than ken...if daigo were using yun as well he would no doubt destroy KO and HE would be the one parrying *EVERY* single attack of KOS without missing a single beat and then you would truly see his speed and skill as a legendary player

ken is top tier aswell though
lol
that was an awesome match ;)
KO and Daigo are friggin great players!!!
yh well u heard wrong
it's a draw
so uh
lol
Nope Hylatt is right noobs can own with ken. His moves do way to much damage. At the start of a round do a jump in roundhouse kick see how much damage it does or even ah roundhouse sweep. Nuff sed.
ZOMMMG
