Thank you for that wonderful feedback, David! I hope other group members will watch it too, because I was feeling a lot of frustration there, and you know I like to keep it “my happy place” 😂?
Greetings from Germany. I'm just painting with the german company "Schipper". The image of their packages is exactly what you will get after finishing the painting, sometimes the colors shine brighter. But: No 'fake'-motif in front of the package. Can't wait for you, dear Melanie, introducing the Schipper-pbn's..
You could be a mind-reader! I have a Schipper video scheduled for today at 10am. As soon as I started swatching the paints, I ordered three more. Then about a week later, I ordered two more. 😂😂😂 They are PHENOMENAL!! I can’t believe I waited so long to try one. ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Melanie, I am one who tries to make my paintings look more natural by doings things to them from what I learned from watching Bob Ross. Especially the trees and ocean scenes. It has helped to make it take a more natural look. At first I was very critical of my pictures but now I love them. I've learned so much from watching you.
i do pbn because i dont have plan out the picture ,the colours are already chosen,i have extra paints,.i put down the colours then embellish it with crafty stuff.its your painting put your personality into it,it cannot go wrong,we all are different embrace the unique of you.
Exactly! I have designed my own shimmery, glittery, and sparkly line of paints for customers who want to add a little extra something to their paint by number projects. It’s my belief that “You should always do you, Boo-Boo” in your artwork…as long as you remember to enjoy what you’re doing. 🥰
I love the part where you tell me that my pbn won't get me into the Smithsonian or the Louvré. I laughed out loud while painting. Started today...! Thank you for the reality check, Melanie.
Thank you Melanie for taking the time to put up your videos. Much appreciated! . You are sooooo right: paint by numbers is for: Fun, relaxation, mental health. Definitely not to be aggravated.
Oh I love you Melanie! You're so right. This is supposed to be an enjoyable hobby! Let's not let it turn into something so negative that we consider it "work" to finish a painting. Step away from the caffeine and drink that glass of wine, perhaps? I don't even drink, but it seems like a good plan sometimes! Ha! :)
Thanks for grounding some people! This is a fun hobby for me. I want to learn how to do some more techniques to help make them look more realistic. I look forward to your videos. Keep them coming.
Melanie, thanks for reminding me to chill out and not expect perfectionism, but instead to enjoy the journey of painting my own unique PBN. Your advice in this video is spot on! BTW, your nail polish looks awesome!
Thank you for that feedback and the compliment on my nails. (You won’t believe that on some of my nails I used glitter...like literal, ultra-fine glitter. The others have ColorStreet nail strips over the top as accents. I do my own gel nails and have since 2012. That’s why in some videos I am missing paint off a nail or two. I haven’t had time to redo them 😂😂😂.)
Thank you for putting this hobby into perspective! I am doing my very first PBN and I have walked away from it about 3 weeks ago, because so many numbers and lines were showing through! I was completely discouraged because I had to go back and redo so much! I skipped the step that you showed us to go through each paint and mark them as translucent, opaque, etc. so very sorry I did that! I will not make that mistake again! The student has arrived! Thank you so much for sharing all your talent and experience with those of us that are wanttobes
Thank you for that feedback! I know sometimes people listen to my suggestions and wonder why I advise them to do certain things, but I promise there is reasoning behind some of my insanity! 😂 I’m so happy you have been helped by watching my videos. I have 60 paint-by-number videos now, so I hope you’ll have a lot of help when you need it!
So informative. Thank you so much. I love this hobby, my paintings are not perfect and won't stand up to close scrutiny but I so enjoy doing it. That's the point of a hobby. 😁
This is a very helpful and much needed tutorial! I have seen a lot of comments about color frustration on the FB group and this is good information to address the confusion/frustration. I haven't painted in TWO WEEKS because I'm disgruntled with the "off" colors of my hydrangea canvas. And I don't even hang my paintings. Thank you for the reminder! It's a hobby to enjoy.
Yessss, thank you for watching and for taking the time to look at it with a different perspective. I never look at the reference photos online or that comes with my kit, unless the rare time when I am trying to figure out which part I want to blend. It’s best to put it away and paint your beautiful painting! Which hydrangea was it? The Pink Picasso?
The first colour i chose to do was way darker than on the picture online. I didn't think much of it until i realized that when next to a black section, it would completely disappear... freakout!!! Until i remembered your advice to take it easy and just enjoy the hobby. So i just left that color for later. Not a big deal! Thanks for another great video, your advice and attitude is beyond valuable for someone starting out
Emily C I’m so happy to get that kind of feedback 🥰. I seriously didn’t want to sound like I was lecturing, but lately I’ve had to remind myself to enjoy it.
You are so eloquent! and 2 videos in 1 day, I’m elated! Many relatives of my family have requested I do a painting for them, I have asked them to send whatever kit they like do feel a bit pressured about it 🤓 I will have them watch this video! 🤣🤣🤣 I am so excited for the skin blending tips video!!! I have 2 kits that the original design is hyperrealism 😆, not sure how I will pull that off! I saw someone in the FB group post an Elvis that came out looking weird and someone else also posted the same exact Elvis, it was much better, perhaps the company did a better render or had a more detailed canvas?
It’s probably how much they went past the original PBN to add detail and blending. I got the skin blending part down, but it’s the fact that on the painting I am going to use for that video, I got all “creative” and decided to change out some colors. Now I wish I had left it alone. 😂
😂😂 not going to end up in the Smithsonian...i think people forget that, and i dealt with that in pony baseball. People take something that is supposed to be fun and turn it into something it'll never be. I get it I'm a perfectionist, but the day i nit pick and get frustrated is the day i stop. Not only does PBN and DP relax me and I enjoy it so much...I have fun and have drastically cut down on smoking!
Well, that last part is the most important!! Anything that can fill your time and mind enough to help you forget you need a smoke break is a miraculous thing. ❤️❤️❤️
Love your video. You’re so funny 😆 I was not impressed with my first painting because it looks quite abstract, and I want it looks more real. After hearing you explained about PBN 24 colours-the one I have, I understood why my painting looks like that. My question is, I would like my painting looks more vibrant colours, is there a way I can do that. Thank you 🙏
It is so hard to explain this to people, sometimes…even myself when I am mad because I see blocks of color on my paint my number after I only chose a project that had 12 paints. 😂😂😂
HI Melanie love watching your videos just found your site yesterday , I have a few PBN sets and wanted to get back into it, but haven't done any thing yet because I wanted to know one simple thing is it easier to paint the PBN on a flat surface or can I use a easel thank you
I think I finally got around to answering you on another comment. May is a rough month for me, as my son was killed a few years back, and it is Mother’s Day, his birthday month and mine 3 days later, which we used to celebrate together. Lots of other things go on in May, so I get behind. If you don’t see that response from me, let me know. I posted several mounting ideas for you...I rarely (never) paint on an easel, but either on my tilted workstation or one of the mounted options I posted for you.
I’ve become an enthusiastic of yours ever since the virus drove me to paint by numbers as a hobby. Am really enjoying it. I wonder if you have experience with original custom paint by numbers? I’m looking for anyone that might have a kit of Boston, MA?? I would be grateful for any of your expert suggestions!! Peter S. Schaefps@gmail.com
Question- sometimes the canvases sent to me look like they are made of white nylon instead of linen or cotton, have you ever seen that before, I buy very cheap ones off amazon and eBay.
I love it!! Your had me cracking up!! Your a great teacher My actual question was like the trees 🌲 in my Ledge Bay why did they think they needed to be a baby crap pea green Instead of a more deeper green in the picture that green could have been added like it was in the pic I was just wondering why they got to that pea crap and that dark baby crap green they always use Instead of a realistic green color..I guess maybe I should have been more detailed in my question HAHA 😂 I TOTALLY AGREE YOU CANT FET IT TO LOOK EXACT Although I think they could choose more realistic greens to shade the trees like the picture was a much better looking green and a realistic looking green I know they make that color because I have several tones of it in the Arteza paint set That was my question I guess those pea and crap greens mix better because I’ve had that crap green in the last 3 pics I’ve done I hate it!! Haha 😂 I’m not stressing over it at all I have enough to stress over if I want to really think of something to be stressed HAHA I PERSONALLY JUST WISH THEY WOULD CHUNK THAT PEA AND CRAPPY DARK GREENS and give us some real colors of a tree 🌲 like this green isn’t that pretty haha 😂 Anyway I get what your saying and a lot of people let the OCD run into play with this hobby I get it that it will never look like the pic I just want realistic greens on my trees PLEASE!! HAHA 😂 I need to learn to not be afraid to change a color on my palette if I don’t like it!! That’s probably what I should do!! Hmmm 🤔 HAHA 🤣🤣🤣🤣
“Baby Dookie green” is the best description for it! 🤣 Eewwwwww! I mean, it’s obvious that some companies really try to choose the best palettes for the painting, and some just let the computer select for them & call it a day. 🤷🏻♀️🙄
@@MelanieBsCreativeStudio I want company’s that pic good colors for them We work hard to see the pic When it was all Baby Crap 💩 I was so disappointed ☹️!!
Lol! I was probably just annoyed about people complaining constantly over the same issues…”why a PBN with 24 colors doesn’t look the same as a photo with millions of colors” and that kind of thing. It seemed logical to me, but I answered that question and so many others so many times, that I was finally like, “OH MY GOSH!! I’m just going to do a video about it!“ 😂
You are 100%right that is a hobby, not a competition. Let's just enjoy painting!!! Great video!
Thank you for that feedback!! 🥰🥰🥰
You are an amazing teacher! You have captured the essence why we do this as a hobby. Thank you!
Thank you for that wonderful feedback, David! I hope other group members will watch it too, because I was feeling a lot of frustration there, and you know I like to keep it “my happy place” 😂?
I to love her videos. I watch on four different accounts just so she gets the views and a few cents. She deserves it!

Question- sometimes the canvases sent to me look like they are made of white nylon instead of linen or cotton, have you ever seen that before, I buy very cheap ones off amazon and eBay.
Some have very thin material on the back, but it doesn’t usually seem to make a huge difference. I think the thinner ones are easier to stretch.
I can’t believe you have to explain this

In the 4 years that this video has been published, you’re the only person who has ever complained about it. Sorry you missed out on the information.
