Accepting that there is no meaning is relaxing but its responsibility is very devastative

I just discovered you guys. I studied a bit of art history early uni days but then transported myself to economics, which I took right to, but am still an artist. At first I had to give up art to be able to shift my mind to economics, but the math binds and brought me back to it. My disabilities have required me to rethink and rethink how I approach my existence, authentically many times over. Tonight, for example, I’m having a very limited movement evening and that’s how I found your channel, as I’ve been using ai to express myself but this has brought me back into curiosity about the people who make art over the ages. Anyway, I love your videos so far, so easy to digest, right my speed, thank you.

Is there any relationship between Dada and Absurdism, i.e. existentialism? Are they even on the same branch of the evolutionary tree from early twentieth century thought to mid twentieth century? Regardless, great channel!!! 👍👍

    • @CuriousMuse
      @CuriousMuse  2 роки тому +3

Dadaism is based on deliberate irrationality and absurdism implies that the world lacks meaning and is not fully intelligible by reason. They are different things but you can still create some parallels between them

You could have saved me the misery of reading Jean-Paul Sartre's "Being & Nothingness" if I'd seen this vid during my college daze...
But, perhaps that tome was actually written before Sartre's adoption of existential philosophy. All I know is that the book was the most dreary slog I ever endured!

I literally had to stop reading it and pick up a different existentialist writers book because it was soooo pretentious. Like I could feel the arrogance dripping from the pages. I’ll stick to watching reviews on his work xx💕

I can relate,@@aileenrose6786... It seemed like every sentence had the word "being" or "nothingness" or even both words from the title!

I’ve never been religious in my life, and I know nothing about God or something like that and how they may be involved in lots of happenings in life.
I believe I’m a perfect enthusiast in my acclamation of freedom and its attendant responsibility. That’s why how to live is important.
You are the one who should make your own decision and be responsible for what you’ve done. Well, I’ve much to say about this subject. hehe.
Well, you can’t always live with the ease of a flying bird, but still life shouldn’t be too heavy. I would say. 🙂
    Thank you as usual..😁

Agree! It's called sense of agency and it refers to the feeling of control over actions and their consequences. So yes, we also think we all make our own decisions and are responsible for the consequences :)

Using pop culture to explain life (Batman reference) is like using a black background with white dots to explain the galaxy.
There’s no such thing as one philosophy to explain life, its meaning or purpose.
It’s time spent alone pondering our experiences, desires, and our environment to sort it out for ourselves. In fact, it’s our overarching purpose.

Meh. Not the wisest of philosophies. Living for the moment doesn't usually sit very well with "taking full responsibility". And 'subjective morality' is often socially destructive.

    • @CuriousMuse

@@CuriousMuse Because one encourages short-term pleasure while the other requires long-term decision making. I personally think that a balance of the two, favoring long-term planning produces the best results.
