My friend Pete is a very nice guy I called him a few days ago and he called me back today and we talked for a little bit talking about painting and bodywork. I just started my own bodyshop and was asking his advice he is a very smart guy and he knows his stuff . And based on what I seen he is a very good painter and very skilled. If I lived closer to him it would be fun to go help him out on the weekends for free just to learn from him . Keep up the awesome work .
Have been watching for several years now gaining DIY body work information and tips…. Now I’m putting it into practice…. Thanks providing the confidence….crawl , walk, run!
Thanks for this video. I am trying to learn enough welding to do a driver quality restore of a 65 Galaxie fastback. This video really brought it all together for me. I am 65 years old, I always wanted to do an old car, so now I am finally doing it with my six year old grandaughter. Thanks for the videos actually showing the work being done in different ways according to budget.
Hi Pete! I’m working on my first full body resto. It’s a 76 highboy. I’ve just replaced one cab mount and the Front floors. Lots of welding! Of course you know this but a tip for the new guys is that you can also use compressed air to cool your welds.
Sometimes it's low budget jobs that come in. I got a few customers that bring me half finished stuff. It's kind of annoying but they pay well and don't complain and are repeat customers. It is what it is. You'll do them decent, you always do 👍
Some people use air to cool down in between welds. One guy used a thermal gun to prove air cool faster than water. Have you tested that process before?
Tks more welding videos please just purchase the HF Titanium 200 the one that does gas tig msg flux core I know it’s spendy but if you could ever do a video with that welder and give your thoughts that be a great UA-cam video. Tks Pete
either 18 or 20 gauge.. The 18 on older cars is a good match to whats there and on newer stuff I use 20 gauge but no thinner then that.. Thanks for watching!
Could you do something to reduce the chance of warpage? Maybe cool the piece down before welding? It would be impractical to shell out money for a walk in freezer to weld in. If in fact it did reduce warpage, why not? Beats the hell out of working in a shop with a fan to keep you cool. At least in the Summer. Bonus! Cold Beer & a place to keep bodies.
@@OldBondoBillybut wah!! He's using Mig lol old goat 🐐 we all have are ways too get it done!...been watching Pete for a long time....and to the dude that said that was Billy goats work... No way! goat boy welds way better with flux core and leaves no holes or pore ros sotee😂😂😂
The first time I tried this I got fucked in the ass. And ended up warping the metal. I'm no welder so every time I weld it looks like a 12-year-old did it. Luckily for me UA-cam exist and I applied the stitch weld method and it works like a charm.

Don't be afraid to use your body hammer as you go. Use the heat to your advantage if needed.
Makes a lot of sense

That panel has more metal in it than on some cars I've seen in shows.
Is it possible to weld panel steel with a gasless mig welder ?
Short answer. Yes😊
