A Big Mistake Nearly Wrecks My Miata [POV]

- A stupid mistake during a backroad run sends me off-road lol
Didn't know this road well at all before heading out for this run - a valuable lesson learned.
A few good dudes passing by helped me get it back on the pavement, car ended up completely fine.
Thanks for watching-
See you in the next one!
ig: @steadyslammin
Did u go off road on ur right hand side, but i do see u were def going hard towards the corner and and one point u input too much steering and the car might of already lost traction since u went off road for a lil maybe
Bingo! You're the first to get it lol. That's exactly what happened, first time on this road and I didn't know the pavement ends so abruptly on the inside of that corner. Once my front right wheel fell into the dirt it sunk hard, don't think there was a chance to recover at that point. I should've stayed towards the outside in that curve.
@@steadyslammin take it easy 🤙🏽
We can see the alphalt is higher this is very frequent on narrow road that twist always go slow on those roads because also animals show up fast!
@@steadyslammin wow, by the way you were attacking those corners I thought you were a local to this road lol. Only time I've been caught out like this is while exiting a roundabout drift, I learned that I suck at transitions 😂
@@steadyslammin Lifting the throttle (or maybe even braking) was what send you finally offroad. I had a similar situation but i got away with it b.c. i floored the shit out of it :D I have to add that i try to drivt everywhere XD
The guy is showing us how to properly park the Miata in a fancy way in the woods.
Parallel parking is for 🐈🐈🐈. Power slide in-between the ferns.
Crossing solid yellows over blind hills, yikes
Yeah i said the same
More ego than skill.
I drive a miata myself, but never commit such atrocities. Not all miata drivers drive irresponsibly.
calm down children - mistakes happen
some wont overtake on straights, yet crossing it in bling corners is fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine
1:02 it's a damn good job no one was coming the other way, never push your limits esp in areas you can't see, it seems you braked on turn in all weight was on front and it was gone from there always need to trail throttle even if it's just a bit to keep car balanced.
He chickened out and got scared and activated the breaks. It's a natural human reaction that only makes it worse. I made the same mistake, but have now gotten over that fear.
he crossed the line twice, didn't brake before 2 blind hills. he clearly did not know that route or braking@@1HeatWalk
Late inputs. Late vision
Glad to hear you're alright. Everyone makes mistakes and luckily it seems like you and your car could both walk away from this one. One piece of (hopefully) constructive criticism is to go slower over blind hillcrests, *especially* on unfamiliar roads. Going quickly on a b-road with good sight lines is one thing, going quickly into something you cannot see is another.
Be safe man, and thanks for posting. Everyone gets humbled now and again. The best cases are ones like these where no one was hurt and everyone can learn a thing or two. Love the Miata :)
Everything on the road is limit points to what you can see never push beyond that
Indeed. In fact, I’d say it’s best to drive the road you want to have fun on a few times within the speed limit a few times, in both directions. Build a map of it in your head, and then you can go back and hit it hard because you know exactly where each corner is and what to expect.
I have a few spots that I’ve done this on, and I’ll take a few friends out on them and they’re blown away by how well I can handle those roads at high speeds. I also tell them to never do what I’m doing here because I’ve pretty much trained on them lol. I wouldn’t drive to that level on a new (to me) road because that often leads to what we’re seeing in this video. I’ve had a couple close calls and thankfully never had any mishaps, but that did teach me to take this approach.
TL;DR Make the road predictable to you so you can really let out on it without pushing it beyond what your skill or your car (or both) can handle.
First rule of driving reckless is knowing and understanding the road you are driving on. Glad you’re safe
bro tried to pull the akina downhill technique.
Always keep in mind that you're sharing the public roads with other people who most often just want to get where they're going safely and without breaking anything or hurting themselves or anybody else. With this in mind, the sort of thing that happened at 1:00 is obviously unacceptable. Glad you were ok.👍
You really need a LOT more time practising driving. With my NB I can add way more steering angle, stay in my own lane and still maintain grip while travelling with good speed. This is just dangerous and bizarre driving.
He most likely has very poor tires as well, most likely some Normal all seasons based on the grip levels
It's rookie driving. I would suggest the lad take up sim racing miatas until he's comfortable pushing the real thing. ❤
Steering angle is completely unrelated, he just dipped a wheel down the edge of the worn road and it either lost traction in the dirt or when it kicked his wheel back up over the lip.
Crossing double yellows over blind crests is ignorant rookie behavior and a good way to get yourself and somebody completely innocent messed up in a hurry. I really hope you learned from this and that you stay safe in the future, for your sake and the sake of everybody else on the road.
This is exactly why you don't cut corners/run opposing lanes. Try to have a little more control over where your car is exactly. Be safe out there.
Hey man, first of all glad you’re OK and shoutout for posting this, many wouldn’t have the balls to.
Second, the thing that becomes very clear right away is you don’t know the road, no bueno if you’re looking to have some fun. Stick to what you know first and get familiar with the dynamic of the car. Heavy breaking while steering too much, also no bueno.
With that said, happy you made it out. You have an awesome car, looking to get one myself, so don’t let it go to waste!
Stay safe out there
Quick edit: what I like to when exploring news roads is pull the gps out, doesn’t hurt having an idea of what’s ahead of you
That's a pro move on gps! I never thought of that. However I don't drive spiritedly on roads I am not familiar with and with bad visibly on top of that. All it takes is one person stranded on the road or a bicyclist to ruin the day.
@@1HeatWalk Yes this is good, just be aware that the turns don't look as sharp on Google maps as they are sharp in real, so if you see even a small one, be sure you're ready for it (and slow down accordingly BEFORE the turn, if you don't know the road)
So youtube is recommending all these driving videos and this one perfectly sums up my reaction; Why so high on the RPMs? At no point in this video were high RPMs necessary.
In the motorcycle world, we have a saying in the canyons; you can tell who’s dangerous by how much noise they make.
Smooth is king
A big mistake ? He was driving to fast for the road, for his competence, for safety ! Slow down dude!
karma for crossing the line twice on blind spots
Why do you blur your speedometer?
Sign up for an HPDE and learn on a closed circuit. Public roads are no place for this.
Really glad your ok and the car is all good, just for the future be careful of using the brakes in corners, miata's rotate extremely quickly when hitting the brakes while turning witch is a great weapon at low speeds but a dangerous game at high speeds. hope to see more content love the car :)
Not just break I almost lost control once while downshifting without rev matching
Even just lifting the throttle is enough to break it loose. Not quite as bad as my buddy's MR2 but still worth a thought.
I just recently started to trail break into my turns on my s2000. It makes the car rotate into the corner alot easier and get the angle correct to apply acceleration out. As long the inputs are smooth. It really makes driving more fun.
See now, most people slow down when the road gets twisty. You went faster.
I hate that road, this video gave me so much anxiety seeing you flying up an down hills when you can't see ahead.
I love how all the Keiichi Tsuchiya's of youtube come around with these types of videos. But really, this is why you need to go to track days. This could have easily been avoided
At 1:11 you can see the rear starting to act up, looks pretty funky to me. Glad you and your car made it out!
1:13 could be wrong but it sounds like his front right tire dipped in & caught the edge of the road/ a pothole, and that + the elevation in the turn could’ve been what messed him up
@@daraba-san9495 yeah he caught the dirt, sent a resonance through the suspension and slid, could have been corrected but at least it wasn't too bad.
He clearly dips two wheels off of the road going into a long fast corner. Car was unsettled and he didn't catch the over steer in time. Nice road to have a spirited drive on, terrible road to push your limits on.
if you find your car on top of dry brush/leaves like that, you should try to get the hell out as soon as possible. your catalytic converter gets super hot and can light fire to leaves
This should be top comment.
1:01 How can you be so sure there's noone on the other side ? Take it easy
First on a little road like this you were too fast!
I saw your video of a afternoon drive a couple months back. When i saw your driving style/hand position i knew this was going to make u crash one day...
Hope you and your car are okay though! You'll learn to be a better driver
Yeah he couldn't react in time when the rear gave up
Went way over the yellow over two blind crests, suuuuper unsafe.
Thankfully there was no approaching traffic @ 1:00 and 1:08 ...otherwise he would be dead by now.
That brush saved you from that tree…I hope you are able to clean all of the pine needles from the interior!❤❤❤❤
First mistake was crossing the centre like multiple times
You got so lucky no one was coming the other way, you crossed way over on the other side, multiple times on blind hills and corners. Driving absolutely dumb. If you can't keep it in your lane then you need to slow down. I'm glad you are ok but I sure hope you learned from this
Blocking the speedo like another Miata owner doesn’t know your needle at that position is like 70mph lol. I spun out going thru some twisties right after I got new tires and didn’t know them yet. Glad you’re okay, I’ve seen much worse. Don’t let it stop you from having fun tho!
it's to prevent youtube from taking his video down. kind of like the "filmed in mexico" disclaimers. etc
@@Zaoh
Oh yeah. Thought I saw you around there :)
It's not to hide his speed from "other miata owners"
It's more so UA-cam and/or law enforcement can't determine his speed with certainty, and therefore can't remove his video and/or get him fined
sometimes your on the road looking at the scenery, other times your in the scenery looking at the road.
as others said, don't ever cross the center line. you could kill someone.
Congratulations, you're the first miata owner with a rebuilt title
as someone who runs backroads and tries to be responsible, your driving needs work. Glad nobody got hurt and hopefully you took a lesson home here.
Looked to me like you just had to pull over and get that nice shot of the Miata with a nice fall background
"OH NO, SOMEBODY CALL SCOTT" glad you're alright.
1:02 why the F are you in the middle of the road?
This kind of mistake can happen to the best drivers. In a car with such a short wheelbase you have to have lightning quick reflexes to save a slide. Lesson learned I bet. Props to you for posting it. 👍
that is one ofe the worst driving and reaction time I ever seen. not knowing how to hold the steering weel, all the steering input are wrong and the reaction on the car slipping was so bad. seems like an inexperienced driver trying to show off. this car is well balanced but takes some @@ to drive fast and safe. take care dude. go to the track, wear your safety equipment and learn how to drive correct by making mistakes in a controlled environment.
Do not go fast if you can't see what's on the other side of the hill. It's not rocket science. I always slow down at intersections even when I have the green light but I'm a biker...
What's that spoiler? I can only find little lip spoilers for my nb
This is the dealer installed spoiler for NA's believe it came as an option on many North American spec cars
Dude, 100kph into a hairpin. What the hell are you thinking. Glad no one got hurt, but that’s a dumb thing to do on an open road. Find a local track or something.
Nice vid, some advice, dont fidget your hands on the steering wheel so much
My god. Yeah looks like you learned some valuable lessons about weight transfer that day. I saw you braking over crests and had flashbacks to when I learned the same lesson.
Way too fast, 100 mph not safe at all. I see you tried to cover your speed
that’s a ride home with the radio off kinda day lmfao
😂 omg i was afraid 10 sec before crash when I saw your hands on wheel. You have to pull, not push, your left hand make some wierd movements and lays on the bottom of wheel. Not possible to react correctly
How did the car turn like that were you not handling the wheel properly or were the tires going bald?
Welp, the car to learn to drive in without it trying to kill you is definitely a Miata.
no need to do takumi moves at that speed my dude
It’s called slow the fuck down. At least you weren’t in a high powered car.
okay so for you even miata that is modded is not powerful enough. you guys act like 13 year olds
Dayum. Glad you’re okay and the damage is pretty minimal. Let off the gas before coming into a corner, and accelerate as you’re exiting it. Think of it like there’s a string tied from the bottom of your steering wheel to the gas pedal; the further it turns, the less gas is applied.
Moment you passed the yellow is when you were pass the limit but its good that you are safe!
damn bro im glad youre alright! hoon safe man (:
Something like this happened to me last year too I spun out and totalled my rear rims and scuffed the other one everyone was okay but it was scary take it easy with miatas
Things can change very quickly. At least you have the balls to post your mistakes on the internet. Be safe and learn from them 🙏
Wow. That sucks but in a lucky way. Just weeds and maybe an alignment adjustment.
Nice save. Could benefit from staying in your lane probably
Looks like right wheels went into dirt on the right, you're already turning right into the corner now with less grip on rear right wheel, jumping back onto pavement probably made the rear even lighter as you're making the turn so backend swung out. Whew lucky lad, seriously good thing you brought the wheel back to the left or your nose was in those trees.
ANOTHER MIATA BITES THE DUST
rev counter says it all....
I should be more careful driving seeing this... My 370z turn that comer with this speed, but I absolutely should not overestimate my driving skill and car's capability. Good reminder
the car is light so it's very forgiving. i spun out on some back road at night in my mrs and did a 180.
i was dumb and went faster than i normally would because i was trying to catch up in the straights.
Excellent example of braking mid corner to help you rotate the car... amazing slip angle! The corner was just not sharp enough, so not your fault
he just put a wheel off
your back right wheel touched thwe grass which made it lose traction and thats why u lost control, take corners a little better but im really happy to see that ur miata wasnt totalled
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Bro you literally scandi flicked it into the corner🤣🤣 try some driving course on track before taking it to the streets
Glad you didn't touch that tree and I assume if any the damage is mild.
Ho no did you repair it ?
This video is a great example of how dangerous RWD cars are without traction control.
Sir you cannot park there
Im glad you're safe
stay on the right lane in blind corners or you will kill someone
At least no one was hurt!Did you have any damage on the car?
sadly he doesnt reply to our comments :(
Car was all good, just a couple scratches. Drove totally fine after we got it back on the road.
You should spend more time driving it at slow speeds and learn the car better and how to recover. Doesn't take much to slide a car at low speeds in a tight turn. Just seeing you crossing the yellow tells me had too much ego and not enough experience to be even trying to test the cars limits at those speeds.
How long did you own this car before recording this?
Did you see the sign on the side of the road warning you there is a turn coming up at the recommended speed?
Your line was horrible even in the previous corners. You need to go back to complete basics, like braking before the corner properly and then accelerating only at corner exit.
That wast the most casual crash I ever saw
was it bad tyre?
i'm no drifter but would it have helped him if he gave it more gas as he started slipping?
yea no that would have made it worse, he probably would've done a 180 and ended up on the other side of the road.
the forced cutting of two corners prior to the incident should have been the call to action to to straighten wheel and scrub off some speed. There was no way to catch this once slip had started. Accurate steering/apex and throttle maintenance would probably have prevented the oversteer.
You where feeling to good when you crossed the lane at the top of that blind spot. It already looked like you where floating without traction right after. Got to do better for yourself and that car. When I was younger I would crash fd3s's no problem now I have still yet to financially recover from it
Big tree in the way .
Good you walked away
Did you lift???
What'd we learn? Don't give it beans on unknown roads.
It's almost a good thing you went off when you did. Felt like you were about to go even faster, and I don't think it would have ended as well. The Miata is just as fun at a more controllable speed, plus you get to go home for supper!!
Can't park there mate.
oof bro, please be careful lol, drive a little slower around turns, also this is why im scared to get a MIATA i might take it too far and get too comfortable drifitng around corners
Definitely a lesson to be learned after every mistake, and a Miata is one of the best cars to do so with. If you're worried though, try to stay cautious for a while. Only go hard on roads you know well.
@@steadyslammin YO thanks 4 replying! thought u were one of the people who never reply comments thanks bro! also yeah i'll be cautious but im only 15 and cant drive legally yet, by the time im 17 miatas will be expensive :(((
@FlyW4R Miatas are actually a decent first sports car to go after and easier to handle than most because of 50/50 weight distribution.
Only reason for the crash was excessive speed in the vid (no disrespect to the uploader. Glad you and your car are safe!)
Have had my NA for over a year without any problems. Just know your limits and you’ll be safe and have mad fun!
@@CaptainJackAttack i know it's one of the best handling cars ever but it's so stinkin' fun , and im scared i''ll have '''too much fun'' so i definitely gotta not go over the limits, also i think if he would hace accelerated around that corner it wouldn't have overdrived as much but we all learn from mistakes, im glad i learned the mistake in the video and another person's cost instead of mine lol. Also please do u have discord? i rly wanna know stuff about MIATA like where to buy and stuff. whats ur discord if u have it?
@@WARVIATION I have had my NA from getting connections in real life, ended up spending $6,800 USD for one with only 68,350 miles on it and I've put 25k on it in the year I've owned it. I'm only 18 and insurance is eating my ass, $340 for 3 months. Rides smooth, great stuff. I can say that I definitely have a TON of fun under the speed limit, primarily because it struggles to go above the limit lol.
The reason it seemed like the uploader was trying to drift was due to their front right wheel going off road where they expected to be road, hence the loss of control. I can say with certainty that you can have safe fun going 30 MPH stock. I tend to stay under 60, just because my car struggles at that high speed and because my state's absolute speed limit is 70.
it was about time... looks like you dont know the road
whats worse than a stupid mistake is an avoidable one. didn't look like you knew the road at all, its evident from when you go over crests. hope the damage wasnt too bad.
Glad the tree is safe Whew!🤭
your back tyres are bold as heck
Good thing ya missed that tree....shes probably just fine
This is because you must to drive correctly in public roads and don not to think you are in a circuit.
Thankfully that grass made the car stop. Without it I think there would be a whole lot more tree in this video---
Seems like a roll bar would be a good investment!
Absolutely! Should be up next.
Instead of that, go to an open track or an empty road where no one drives at midnight and get some more experience in driving. UA-cam videos on proper driving helps like hand positioning. Driving sim gives a good strong foundation for you to build on top in your Miata.
Fo fast, to narrow line into the corner with inside cut short and overcorrected... Luckily nothing bad happened. 😇
Dude was hauling ass and was all over the road.
Hopefully this was your first time on this road because I mean like I don't understand why you'd be cooking it like that in 5th on a windy twisty road.
You're lucky
And that’s why we follow speed limits
