At the college I went to, they gave children of graduates preference for admissions. I think this was not necessarily a racist policy. Probably they felt that the more members of a family go to their college, the more donations they will get from those families. Colleges rely a lot on donations by alumni. Families would also give more, if they think this will get their children into the college.

@@tanishazoa138 The school has criteria too.I had a 3.2 GPA during high school(sophomore year was a disaster).I got rejected from UCONN,and Northeastern,waitlisted at Syracuse and QU(I eventually got in and went there).I got rejected from UCONN and Northeastern because despite having extracurriculars,great letters of recommendations,my GPA and SAT scores weren’t good enough.These northeastern schools who had affirmative action didn’t care that I was black and went to a low funded school;my numbers weren’t good enough so they made the correct decision.The assumption that unqualified black and Hispanic kids are getting in top colleges over qualified white and Asian kids is fugazi.These qualified Asian kids are losing spots out to white kids with legacy admissions

Asians and whites are being denied admission, because their spot went to a minority that received extra admission points simply by being black, Hispanic, coming from low economic backgrounds, and now even sexual identity. The issue is allowing those factors to play a role. No one should be getting extra point based on skin, money, etc. And even playing field is an even playing field. Allowing legacy students ensures that standards are being met. It's also a reinvestment in the college.
