Nikon Z6 III Is Unmatched: But For How Long?

- No other system comes close for wildlife. Will other companies even try to compete? Nikon Z6 III is the sweet spot. 6k 60p raw is much more reasonable than Canon's 8k 60p raw of the R5 II. Sony has no affordable telephoto prime lenses. Crop sensor cameras like aps-c Fuji doesn't have the primes yet, still waiting for the 500mm f5.6. And micro four thirds Panasonic and Olympus don't have the video specs.

In Australia our seagulls chase the fast ferries at night, when the critters from the deep come to the surface. As the ferry lights pass, they illuminate those critters and the gulls dive in and catch them, then fly fast to catch the ferry again for some more crittage.
I really enjoyed the seagull shots.

Sony a7IV has the same or better IQ when shooting in RAW. Also better autofocus than Nikons whole mirrorless line up.

Nikon is probably waiting on firmware because they need to address the flicker in the z6iii. still no word from them on that
What Flicker? The one at ISO 12,500 in the shadows?
@Ben_Stewart check the seagull at 2:30, but it happens in other shots as well. UA-cam the z6iii flicker. It's a known problem that petapixel even confirmed and reached out to nikon about but so far no response.
Everything looks better than Sony. That 40/2 is just terrific.
How about this comparison - Nikon Z5 - cause it's CHEAP (ok Z6iii cause that's what you have) with 40/2, vs C100 and 24/1.4.
Bro my wife caught me googling new cameras. Thankfully Pannyboy new S1H isn't out yet. I do love my newish Nikon Z63 and 180-600.
The nikons build quality isn't what it used to be.
The dials start getting stiff within a year.
The cover for the hdmi ports etc will become loose and you loose weather proofing.
And why do we still have to press the iso button to adjust.
I hope the Z6IV has a gun magnet! LOL Seriously about the FW updates says former Z7II owner, not even after I sold it! I just need cycle through AF modes and to customize the redundant multi-pad, useless illum button, and maybe even the display switch button to BKT or Flash Comp.

In 2006, I bought my Sigma 28-200mm (with OIS) for my Nikon D-7000. I took the lens and body to the Sigma service center and asked them to calibrate the lens to the body. In 2024, it's still working and the stabilization is excellent. Image-wise, I can't tell the difference between the Sigma and my Nikon lenses. You keep bashing Sigma but we're waiting for the actual review. Buy one and see what it does. They will calibrate it for free if you ask them.
I had the D7000, I loved that camera.
Calibration is not necessary for mirrorless. It is different than DSLR which have focusing sensors separate from the image sensor and may need calibration.
He says Sigma lenses are sharp, and they are. But zero pop!

The noise in the image is very distracting. I record 4K 12bit RAW with Sigma FP-L and there is little to no noise in ISO under 1250

Casey, i have Canon LUT on my Lumix i'm playing with now. I like the look of it. It's in my top 3 luts. Reason face is little red is cause all colors are well saturated in canon color science. Greens, blues look really good and therefore so do reds. I wonder if one can play with hue in camera to bring reds down. If not then Resolve will do it and then resave lut. My face looks ok on it but is more red then others but i like the POP colors of Canon. I will be using that lut here and there. Another Lut i like is DieHard lut based on DieHard movie. Well saturated lut for vacation/landscape shooting, like Hawaii for example.

Got the Z8, Z6iii and kept my Z6ii (modded for astro) and couldn't be any happier with the package. Just need a little Z50ii for those hiking trips and circle will be complete. Btw. You should rent that Z8.

Yeah if fuji doesn't deliver I'm likely switching to Nikon. They have the lenses and now have the cameras with specs to match. love my xh2s, but this autofocus is much worse than when i bought it, how does that even happen? I'm sure the fuji 500 5.6 will be a dream lens, but god help my wallet if the autofocus isn't fixed.
@koryhawes2548 yeah I still have an xt4 and I love so many things about that camera. And although it makes me sad, I think I'm gonna swap to nikon soon. I mostly shoot wildlife stills, and the as a complete package nikon is where it's at... but I'll really miss fuji, especially the shutter release on the xt4 😢

If you think Nikon gives you a red face, the R5ii has insanely red skintones. I compared the R5ii to my r6ii at the camera store and the R5ii was so red.
Nice video on the way to the Island. Seagull tracking was perfect but background compression made me realize the Big Time Sucking Architectural Lack Of Imagination that Toronto has become. F*#$ing Condos everywhere looks like a 3rd world slum in the background.
My Z50 will arrive tomorrow, my first ever mirrorless camera (after 20 years of shooting on bridge cameras). After so many research i think it is a great choice, but i guess the Z50 II will be released soon

If you have that kind of money to spend on a wildlife setup, then Nikon looks pretty good. Not sure if it looks that much better than an R5 with a 100-500 for considerably less.
I'm currently very happy with the G9II +200mm f2.8. I don't feel like I'm missing out on much. Even the best deal I've seen on the R5+100-500, which would be my preferred upgrade path for weight reasons, is more than $2000 more than what I paid for my current setup.

No joke, the gulls here catch some decent size crabs and fish, I've seen them swallow crabs whole, they are quite impressive for a bird thats so despised. Crows are still smarter tho lol, don't listen too Jordan Drake 😂🤣😅

Not when they are the same specs. Look at Fuji 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 vs Sony GM 100-400mm f4.5-5.6. Almost the same.

Unmatched? In video yes but in stills Nikon Z7II 47mp . Z6III Has 24mp. I don't know any camera with 47mp for 1900 US Dollars. On sale.

Rent the R5 II and get the Canon 400mm f5.6. It's 156 years old but you will love it. The nikon will be on Facebook marketplace in record time.
Nikon does good wildlife and sports action. Sony good all-rounder that does UA-cam scrub well. Canon has nice neutral tones. Fuji is for hipsters that wish they could afford real film. Panasonic is basically Sony but worse at everything except stabilisation. I heard Olympus is nice but I've never seen someone use a digital Olympus camera in real life.
