You can actually type in a calculation when underclocking. I usually type in 40/3 in my concrete constructors and it automatically sets it at 88.8888% for you
A tip that really helped me make tutorial videos in the past: When you are doing something, anything in a video, be sure to always be concise. I.e. always avoid saying vague words such as "it" or "that". "Connect the connector to "it", "Connect the connector to the constructor on the far left side, left most input". You can even cut to an overview of 2-3 seconds, even from just a tower, of what you did. Then jump back to live build. Really helps people, especially beginners. Also, do not be afraid to pause for a moment when looking at a layout or something you just did, it can be extremely powerful for viewers. Your videos have been a huge help! Please do ones for early-mid and mid-game. Also, a guide to scaling and when to scale. Maybe a stepping stones guide to important tech to get or MAM research early as it is invisible to new players until they focus on it. I only started playing this game when 1.0 was released, and this game has been great! You have made it even better. PS: the building hotkey tips really help, like copying with MMB, modes, etc. If you are afraid of views falling off because of the tutorial style of videos you can split the videos into categories. I.e. "Early game Copper node Layouts", "Early Game Iron Layouts". Makes it easier to focus on views and view time, while having enough time to show things concisely and still hitting that magic video time.
Really hope you do a phase 2 guide, rotors, stators, motors, steel beans, pipes, encased industrial beans and phase 2 elevator parts, that's the part i always get stuck on and i bet a lot of people as well
Best tip I can give you is to not care so much about efficiency your first time around. Make all the spaghetti you want, demolish all you want, rebuild all you want. You're learning the ropes so just make it as messy as possible. Once you get overwhelmed, make a new save and take the lessons from the first save into it. Eventually you will be able to play the game without ever getting overwhelmed.
Yes I also stoped here most of the time... But not because I couldn't do it... Most of the time it was due to the fact that I almoast harvested all the resource nodes nearby... And I felt that I need some transport logistics now... But only had trucks at this point which seems to have to operate near coal nodes... But these I took for coal power generation... Then running around back and fourth between the new node bases for 3 hours because some parts are missing and getting annoyed and losing interest because of that. 1.0 helps with the dimensional depot this time around but I still feel the need for transportation. Maybe it would also be helpful to include "factory + node location" for every starting area... So what factory parts to build where... And how to solve the "running around a lot" So in short... I also want that video :D
@@JustAnotherAccount8 Best advice i've seen. It took me a while to learn how to play the game that way as I'm very much an organizer. I like have my stuff on a grid, I like efficiency, and I like compact designs. Sometimes you just can't have that.
This is fantastic. I hope you continue this format taking us through more advanced setups later game. I have been playing for a while now and always hit points where it all comes too overwhelming and I walk away. I think I have this early stuff down but watching such a concise and well structured video helps to reinforce basics and working through processes and compartmentalising. It works for me where other videos seem to confuse me, everything you do is so clean and makes sense. Cheers mate.
A small note: You don't need to use quick search for calculations, you can directly input the calculations into the fields when under/overclocking and press enter.
Great tips in this video. I working on an Iron Factory with 24 Smelters and 16 Constructors to build Reinforced Iron Plates, Rotors, and Modular Frames. Preparing ahead for Phase 2 with all those Smart Plating, Versatile Framework and Automated Wiring. I can't remember when I learned about manually typing in the PPM amount. It really makes things easy when load balancing your production lines. Another great tip is have a Conveyor Splitter to send parts to the Space Elevator and AWESOME! Sink to get tickets. May take longer per Phase but you get those sink points without doing anything.
Knowing when and how to upscale would be one of the biggest helps. Just getting into steal and struggling to understand how much production of stuff to keep things efficient not over doing it a d not over doing it.
You can't know what you don't know though. Load balanced early designs are great but they are always going to run into the issue of being difficult to expand space-wise. I suggest you just keep having fun and start with tangible small numbers for new parts - like 1-10 for final output and go from there. An example is that you only need a couple motors per minute early into steel, literally like 2 which means only 1 assembler per part to get going.
@xesonik2857 this is actually kind of what I needed to know I build everything on a manifold for the most part but it's understanding should I be running 2 assemblers and then new ones for the new parts or just send the ones I'm making to the new equipment. I guess it's more do i build me lines for each more part I need or do I split already running lines
An easy way to determine how much to scale is to look at how you are going to use that material. Screws aren’t something you will carry around all the time, so I keep a single constructor feeding a container and build any other screws I need into other production lines. Plates and reinforced plates you will use for belts and buildings, so you need plenty of production for them. As I expand reinforced plates, I reduce the basic plate production and start belting most things with mark 2 belts. When you unlock steel, get a small line going building beams and pipes ASAP. Don’t worry about efficiency, just get it going. That way you can accumulate a small stock while you build a large steel plant. Once that happens I switch to mark 3 belts on everything and shift most of the reinforced plate production into other parts that need them.
Do you use satisfactory tools 1.0? They have a production calculator that is super helpful for figuring out your builds. For example, I want to fully utilize all the natural uranium on the map for power production. I use the calculator and the satisfactory wiki (not gg because they aren't fully updated yet) to show what I need to make the maximum number of uranium fuel rods, and plutonium fuel rods for sinking (until I unlock tier 9)
If you are starting out and trying to get serious about the game, it's a good idea to play around with scaling these types of designs in different ways. You will most likely be redoing entire factories or starting a new save once you learn more and get comfortable in designs that fit your playstyle better. Use those earlier periods before your production needs start taking up all your space. I like messing with scaling vertically, which is way easier with a smaller production line, such as the biomass burner layout Xclipse released the other day. Much larger builds can be very mentally taxing to work out how you split them into 3D space - which is why most tutorials build flat for clarity on what's going on.
I just started playing last week for the first time. I love that you can redo any and all of the layouts/lines, with or without power, until you have it the way YOU like it. Then just turn it on and watch it churn. Also love hand making solid biofuel when I miss calculate power. Thank you for the perspective on balance… I do like pasta though
I started the game for the first time with 1.0 and these Videos are God send. If you have time and the community support Videos like this it would be great if you could continue with them.
1:02 Just to be sure, you do not *need* to unlock underclocking and Mk 2 logistics fir these layouts to work. They will be just be less efficient, so they will use more power and produce fewer items per minute. But everything will still work.
Just finished my first 10 hours playing and this was EXACTLY the kind of guide I needed to clean up my first factory. I'm not full spaghetti monster, but understanding exactly how much I can get out of my nodes is a pretty nice incentive to rebuild!!
I'd love to learn more about upscaling, and also planning out logistic floors to make more clean looking production lines that don't have cabling. Organization once you get into multiple complex parts always gets me.
agreed I see so many awesome builds and as far as I can tell I haven't seen any videos on building those awesome little factories where all the belts are hidden and the wiring is hidden and there are lights and walkways. googling for factory builds is impossible lol

Recently started in "Satisfactory 1.0" . Thank you so much for this tutorial. Very helpful. Yes I may have to re-do my entire factory !! again ! lol !. Your examples show that careful planning and alignment of production units is paramount for success. But then thats the fun of this masterpiece factory game. Learning the lessons, getting into the detail etc. Although my factory has the metal foundations at last instead of grass or sand. My units are a bit haphazard in their respective locations etc so I may have to do a complete dismantle and enter my 3rd restructure. ( About to enter the coal production phase now). My only calamity is the storage mechanics. if I dismantle my storage containers to clean up an area, to start again in design, you are left with the little boxes full of your stuff. However you cannot pick them up and move them !. Thats my issue if I have to re-design my whole factory to a more cleaner design. I literally have hundreds of copper , cables , screws, iron plate, rotors etc etc etc, etc in my storage containers, but the game does not offer a solution to save to a "cloud" so that I can reposition my storage containers without losing all my stuff. Any solutions to this. I have about 7 to 8 storage containers all full now. Many thanks.
Outstanding video! I've been making factories like these for a while, but I've missed a number of tricks/shortcuts. Apparently there are build modes for conveyor built and pop up dials for splitters I've missed plus the ability to attach splitters/mergers to elevators. This definitely earned thus month's membership dues! Thanks!
I just started playing this game 3 days ago, so I'm still watching a lot of early game/beginner videos, but I just unlocked oil production last night 😅
I have two pieces of advice to add for anyone starting out. Get iron plates and concrete production going first, set up some number of bio burners to be fed through a container and belt system, and go exploring to locate nearby resources, find hard drives, power slugs, somersloop, and Mercer spheres. This will allow you to build up materials needed to make all the foundations you were going to need in the early game. Some of the early hard drive recipes can be very beneficial, so it’s worth trying to find them early on. Second is to make sure that you are unlocking things in the MAM. I put particular emphasis on getting over clocking and under clocking to make it easier to balance production lines and the rebar gun to make exploring far safer. Don’t forget that enemies respawn and can be made into biomass, so they can help power your bio burner grid.
Good tips. I'm often finding myself not quite sure on how big my production lines need to be. Should I be pumping out 40 Rotors/min? It can be difficult to know what is too much or too little. A video that outlines good baseline production targets to shoot for might be worthwhile.
A good rule of thumb is when you are waiting on product, or start manually crafting them again as you don't want to wait, that would be a good moment to increase the production of that product. It is difficult to pinpoint the exact moment when to do this, as everyone plays a bit different. If you do a lot of exploring, then your storage will be filled to the brim and upgrading is less needed.

Amazing video, i just finished the reinforced iron plating, rotors and smart plating part of the factory. I think the math is off, it produces 40 iron plates instead of 30 (the ammount needed for the reinforce iron plates) note: I added the extra 10 to the storage, just thought you would like to know 🤔
Hey Total, you'll probably never see this. Love your videos and thank you for all your guides. Feedback, I do wish you'd build from atop your machines to give a more birds eye view. Especially with jump cuts, first were looking here now all of a sudden we're over there. Standing on top of your smelter then your constructor as you go will help visualize the splitters and mergers part much more. Just because it's 1st person, doesn't mean we can't build from a top down view. I hope it helps everyone to understand your builds better!
I've found that I don't really notice the clipping items when I have the splitter directly on the lift when it's on top, it's really noticeable when it's on the bottom of a lift though. One place you don't get any clipping is using that on a 0 height lift on a floor hole, which I've also found to be a massive help when doing roof conveyers. Just remember that the splitter/merger is 1 nudge off where you put the lift, so plan accordingly if you need exact placements.
Love the tips video, this is helpful! One thing that would probably help some people out at the end there when showcasing the finished layout is maybe overlaying images of the output resource for each building and the rate at which it outputs, makes it easier to understand after the fact of how the mergers / splitters are working at a glance!
very nice design, my first real factory build! I got some of the combiner and divider directions mixed up, but figured it out in the end. Looking forward to adapting this into a multifloor design and/or scalable to higher output. just need to find COAL now! Thanks for this!
I just got into the game yesterday and compared to Factorio, there are quite a few things that are different :) I learned a lot new here thank you :) I find the supply via the mines in particular much more complicated and makes it more difficult to scale up. What I would be interested in would be the supply of an initial factory and not just the production lines behind it

Thank you for taking the time to create such quality content. Also I wouldn’t mind seeing a video that goes over factory expansion that’s where I’ve been struggling.
*CORRECTION* in The Reinforced Iron plates, Rotors and Smart plating, there is 10 extra iron plates that need to be split from the iron plate constructor and sent to storage - I don't know why I forgot to do this in the video :s appologies. If you pause at 28:23 you can see where the splitter should be in the layout to the left
Would definitely love some similar videos of further phases/tiers. I would note...it may help to review the items/settings on the overview 'map' of the layout, or to perhaps be a bit clearer on which constructors you're specifying when building and setting up close. I used to use a lot of Spectrum Dad's videos where he would be very explicit (i.e. "in the 4th splitter in the 4th column" - always following a left-to-right format), but at a few moments in this video I was completely lost with "and now on THIS constructor" (no idea which of the 10 constructors in the layout we're referring to because we're too close and flipped around too much...or maybe it's just me). Really do love the layouts, though. After 200hrs on my pre-1.0 save (I was a late arrival over the summer), this is the first time I've fully automated Smart Plating or Modular frames.
Definitely interested in know when/how to increase production for those mid tier items. Also how to upscale existing early game factories. I haven’t played update 1.0 yet but where I left off last time was not sure how to decide whether to scrap old factories to make higher outputs or add on to them. Also how to prioritize coal use.
wow, i am new to this game and that last modular frames factory completely broke my brain. i was looking at satisfactory tools planner to try and follow along with your video and for a while i was like, what your doing isn't adding up to what i see on the planner and it shouldn't add up to 5 modular frames at the end, my brain just was broken trying to understand it all. I sat here pausing video and looking at planner for so long until i finally understood what is going on math wise. I swear just looking at the planner alone i wouldn't have ever figured out how to run the splitters and underclocking to make all the numbers match the planner, yet i see how you did it! oh my goodness. Now i wonder if i'll be able to reproduce this myself on other factories or will i pull all my hair out. I am finding this all fascinating. It's a little confusing how the planner doesn't underclock the machines to be all the same speed but you are, i get why your doing it but was making looking at the planner confusing as it has often 2 machines at 100% and 1 at 50% and while in end it would work, it is just not perfect! Likely would just result in a long startup until everything is primed essentially and running smooth, in long term would work probably fine doing it like the planner though. I was also completely lost in planner trying to understand how it's possible to use belts to transfer 67.5 ingots on one line and 52.5 on other line, it just didn't seem possible to me at all, but now i get it watching you. The planner doesn't tell you at all how on earth you can achieve those kind of numbers. the iron pipes is what confuses me most on planner, showing 4 constructors with 3 at 100% and 1 at 50% it doesn't make any sense at all how they achieve numbers perfectly, i am guessing planner isn't load balancing at all and just using modular, but i see how you managed to load balance such crazy numbers.

A video about scaling beyond this would be really helpful. I'm new to the game and your videos have been very informative. I'm at the point where I can automate basic iron / copper / concrete and feel more comfortable with some items beyond that (rotors / reinforced iron plates), but I'm finding expansion beyond that difficult. If I'm producing a good amount of early-game materials, say between 40 and 60 of wire, cable, copper sheet, iron rod, iron plate, screw, and concrete, it's what to do next that I feel lost with. Do I hook up the screws and plates I'm already producing to make reinforced iron plates for example, or should I be belting in another lot of 120/m iron ore specifically for reinforced iron plates, making the plates and screws again as part of that line? When are resources gathered for the sake of having a reserve, and when should they be gathered and fed straight into a factory? I'm producing 40/m iron plates and 60/m screws on 120/m iron ore with my very basic starter factory, but if I belt those into an assembler to make reinforced iron plates I really struggle to see how to start producing anything else because I've used up everything I'm producing at that point. Apologies if this doesn't make sense, but I would be hugely appreciative of any direction / guidance :)
Ah nice and simple.. i been subbed to nilaus and he started on this game again and man his constuctions seem to be so complex yet they are very simple as he is doing lot of modular stuff. I just need to get back learning basics again so i get hang of the game again as its been 3+ years since i last time played satisfactory so i can start testing more advanced builds. As i am working 12 hour work shifts atm and a bit more relaxed days i spent time on "researching" this game how to play without needing to rebuild everything over and over again and avoiding crazy spaghetti conveyor belt mess :D Also i am looking that i just start in middle of the map, might be a bit harsh start but i think thats the best place as i am "closest" to all resources on the map so i got shortest average distance to any resource. have gigantic factory in middle of map and just bring all resources with somewhat big work there but it will reward in late game i think.

I like the video format. One thing thay might help is color coordination. From the birds eye view its hard to tell things apart. Another option would be highlighting sections and labeling them in the overview in editing. Which ever is easier for you. Thanks for the drtailed explanations.
I'm at level 4 at the moment and the hardest thing for me is producing reinforced iron plate because it takes so long and the ones I do produce go into making smart plating.
You son of a sailor, you make me want to restart my spaghetti start. Edit: It's also just now, after hundreds of hours of playing, that I've learned you can type very specific numbers into the constructors and end up with numbers that have more than one digit after the decimal. 😳 Amazing.
You can also type in simple calculations as well, like 1/3 or whatever, and it'll work; i find that more appealing, considering that in some cases, hand-writing out decimals may not be precise enough (anything divided by 7 for instance...) Also, just to point out, bothoutput number and the clock percentage can be edited and be given decimals or expressions.
As I reach more into the mid game on my 1.0 save I think the setup I'd most like to see is one optimized for keeping the dimensional depot topped up. Just enough of everything that's used in building to not really have to worry about having materials on hand, with a side benefit of making tickets when the depot's full.
The issue with the dimensional depot is if you try to feed multiple items into it, when item maxes out it will block anything else. So you're forced to dedicate a dimensional depot to each individual resource, and each one needs a mercer sphere. So there's no special way to set it up really, except to attach one to any existing storage per part you would like access to. (I would be thrilled if I was wrong though)
You can do a little bit of math to find the percentage needed for a specific input rate: 100 / * So in the case of concrete where you want 40: 100 / 45 * 40
The overhead view is fairly useful, but it would even *more* useful if (a) there was a small icon to show the recipe for each building, (b) there was a small icon to show the difference between splitters and mergers, and (c) if belts could have a colour overlay to show which were mk1 and which were mk2. At the moment, we have to look at the overhead view, then rewind back through the video to remind ourselves of the details.
Ideally, you only need to build this manually 2 times: First, this starter factory. Second, a blueprint designer. Although you may want a BPD Mk.2 and/or Mk.3 version, so 3 or 4 manual builds. Then spam bps across the map.
Thanks for your videos. Really helpful. If you have the alternative recipe for screws (needing only iron ingots), can you use it and bypass the manufacture of rods ?

have a question, someone else said its better to place a splitter in front of each smelter, connect each splitter with eachother with mk2 and the each splitter with every smelter via mk1. and the first splitter with the miner. but i normaly built it like u did, from miner into first splitter, splitting up into 2 lanes, into 2 other splitters and then 2 smelter per splitter, so usin 3 instead of 4 splitters and only mk2 converter belt so whats more effizient?
I’m wondering how expandable things like these are. I think you can expand when you get mark 2 miners, higher mark conveyors, etc, but then you’ll be bottle necked by smelters, constructors, etc. You can overclock but only to a point and that would take a lot of power. Are these good for mid game expansion or would this be ditched in later phases?
really good stuff but if you want 1 comment that would be helpfull, may I sugest this. Colour code your splitters and mergers. When you zoomed out and show us the aireal view, we will be able to see at a glance what you have done, rather than keep going back to check what was a splitter and merger. thanks.. I will be giving this a go when I restart again in a minute as I made a huge mess of my last attempt..
I had to do everything on paper to work out the math because it seemed like it wasn't correct for the reinforced iron plates, smart plating and rotors. At least now I understand why Total put so many mergers in for the rods to screws. O.o The only overkill was the iron plates as you just need 30 but are sending 40 to the assembler.
This might be a stupid question - I noticed that screws are the only first tier material that is used a few times other than iron plates and iron rods. Could I just utilize those materials to build the advanced plates, rotors and frames and just make another screw plant to subsidize or once you make a plant that material is just kept in reserve? Or do we just take let’s say one iron normal node and make everything we need for let’s say rotors from that node? I guess I am a little confused right now. Sorry!
its less energy use for no efficienct loss. So its either Use more enegy to make X per minute or use less energy to make the same X per minute. Obviously using less energy is better and more efficient fuel wise.
I just bought this game, and played for an hour, where do yuo get the raw ores to start those factory layouts ? I mean based on your guide, you already producing from constructor, i dont see where raw ores come from ? Thanks
As I unlock more alt recipes the math just gets harder and harder, do you take a little bit of loss for easier math or do you tweak to make perfect inputs and outputs with overclocking in early to mid game?
I've started in the rocky desert and as you know just from spawn if you go slightly NW there are 4 iron ore pure nodes, 1 limestone and 1 copper on top of the cliff, would I use all iron ore nodes as there isn't much space between them?
The unsaid truth here is that the progression in this game is punishingly slow and there's no good option to speed it up or skip it. There are mod and save file edits that can do this in theory, but you'll find their efficacy lacking since they are not supported.
11:50 - On this section for Screws, if we're using Mark 1s, does that mean we need 2 storage for screws? Or can you merge at the end to go into 1 Storage?
Could you give an advice please. I've recently opened a jetpack, but I struggle to chose what fuel should i use. I only have liquid bio fuel, normal fuel and turbo fuel
Use normal fuel or turbo fuel, whatever you can automate to always have it available. I get a single line producing normal fuel ASAP after I unlock it, efficiency be damned, just to get an unending supply of fuel.
How do you make the buildings appear with your color scheme by default instead of the one in the game? I always have to change it one by one. Even when I clone. It only respects it in the blue prints.

You're learning the ropes so just make it as messy as possible. Once you get overwhelmed, make a new save and take the lessons from the first save into it. Eventually you will be able to play the game without ever getting overwhelmed.
Yes I also stoped here most of the time... But not because I couldn't do it... Most of the time it was due to the fact that I almoast harvested all the resource nodes nearby...
And I felt that I need some transport logistics now... But only had trucks at this point which seems to have to operate near coal nodes... But these I took for coal power generation...
Then running around back and fourth between the new node bases for 3 hours because some parts are missing and getting annoyed and losing interest because of that.
1.0 helps with the dimensional depot this time around but I still feel the need for transportation.
Maybe it would also be helpful to include "factory + node location" for every starting area... So what factory parts to build where... And how to solve the "running around a lot"

@@JustAnotherAccount8 Best advice i've seen. It took me a while to learn how to play the game that way as I'm very much an organizer. I like have my stuff on a grid, I like efficiency, and I like compact designs. Sometimes you just can't have that.
This is fantastic. I hope you continue this format taking us through more advanced setups later game. I have been playing for a while now and always hit points where it all comes too overwhelming and I walk away. I think I have this early stuff down but watching such a concise and well structured video helps to reinforce basics and working through processes and compartmentalising. A small note: You don't need to use quick search for calculations, you can directly input the calculations into the fields when under/overclocking and press enter.
Great tips in this video. I working on an Iron Factory with 24 Smelters and 16 Constructors to build Reinforced Iron Plates, Rotors, and Modular Frames. Preparing ahead for Phase 2 with all those Smart Plating, Versatile Framework and Automated Wiring.
I can't remember when I learned about manually typing in the PPM amount. It really makes things easy when load balancing your production lines.
Another great tip is have a Conveyor Splitter to send parts to the Space Elevator and AWESOME! Sink to get tickets. May take longer per Phase but you get those sink points without doing anything.
Knowing when and how to upscale would be one of the biggest helps. Just getting into steal and struggling to understand how much production of stuff to keep things efficient not over doing it a d not over doing it.
You can't know what you don't know though. Load balanced early designs are great but they are always going to run into the issue of being difficult to expand space-wise. I suggest you just keep having fun and start with tangible small numbers for new parts - like 1-10 for final output and go from there.
An example is that you only need a couple motors per minute early into steel, literally like 2 which means only 1 assembler per part to get going.
@xesonik2857 this is actually kind of what I needed to know I build everything on a manifold for the most part but it's understanding should I be running 2 assemblers and then new ones for the new parts or just send the ones I'm making to the new equipment.
I guess it's more do i build me lines for each more part I need or do I split already running lines
An easy way to determine how much to scale is to look at how you are going to use that material. Screws aren’t something you will carry around all the time, so I keep a single constructor feeding a container and build any other screws I need into other production lines. Plates and reinforced plates you will use for belts and buildings, so you need plenty of production for them. As I expand reinforced plates, I reduce the basic plate production and start belting most things with mark 2 belts.
When you unlock steel, get a small line going building beams and pipes ASAP. Don’t worry about efficiency, just get it going. That way you can accumulate a small stock while you build a large steel plant. Once that happens I switch to mark 3 belts on everything and shift most of the reinforced plate production into other parts that need them.

Do you use satisfactory tools 1.0? They have a production calculator that is super helpful for figuring out your builds.
For example, I want to fully utilize all the natural uranium on the map for power production. I use the calculator and the satisfactory wiki (not gg because they aren't fully updated yet) to show what I need to make the maximum number of uranium fuel rods, and plutonium fuel rods for sinking (until I unlock tier 9)
If you are starting out and trying to get serious about the game, it's a good idea to play around with scaling these types of designs in different ways. You will most likely be redoing entire factories or starting a new save once you learn more and get comfortable in designs that fit your playstyle better. Use those earlier periods before your production needs start taking up all your space. I like messing with scaling vertically, which is way easier with a smaller production line, such as the biomass burner layout Xclipse released the other day. Much larger builds can be very mentally taxing to work out how you split them into 3D space - which is why most tutorials build flat for clarity on what's going on.

I just started playing last week for the first time. I love that you can redo any and all of the layouts/lines, with or without power, until you have it the way YOU like it. Then just turn it on and watch it churn. Also love hand making solid biofuel when I miss calculate power. Thank you for the perspective on balance… I do like pasta though

1:02 Just to be sure, you do not *need* to unlock underclocking and Mk 2 logistics fir these layouts to work. They will be just be less efficient, so they will use more power and produce fewer items per minute. But everything will still work.
Just finished my first 10 hours playing and this was EXACTLY the kind of guide I needed to clean up my first factory. I'm not full spaghetti monster, but understanding exactly how much I can get out of my nodes is a pretty nice incentive to rebuild!!
I'd love to learn more about upscaling, and also planning out logistic floors to make more clean looking production lines that don't have cabling. Organization once you get into multiple complex parts always gets me.

Recently started in "Satisfactory 1.0" . Thank you so much for this tutorial. Very helpful. Yes I may have to re-do my entire factory !! again ! lol !. Your examples show that careful planning and alignment of production units is paramount for success. But then thats the fun of this masterpiece factory game. Learning the lessons, getting into the detail etc. Although my factory has the metal foundations at last instead of grass or sand. My units are a bit haphazard in their respective locations etc so I may have to do a complete dismantle and enter my 3rd restructure. ( About to enter the coal production phase now). My only calamity is the storage mechanics. if I dismantle my storage containers to clean up an area, to start again in design, you are left with the little boxes full of your stuff. However you cannot pick them up and move them !. Thats my issue if I have to re-design my whole factory to a more cleaner design. I literally have hundreds of copper , cables , screws, iron plate, rotors etc etc etc, etc in my storage containers, but the game does not offer a solution to save to a "cloud" so that I can reposition my storage containers without losing all my stuff. Any solutions to this. I have about 7 to 8 storage containers all full now. Many thanks.
Outstanding video! I've been making factories like these for a while, but I've missed a number of tricks/shortcuts. Apparently there are build modes for conveyor built and pop up dials for splitters I've missed plus the ability to attach splitters/mergers to elevators. This definitely earned thus month's membership dues! Thanks!

I have two pieces of advice to add for anyone starting out.
Get iron plates and concrete production going first, set up some number of bio burners to be fed through a container and belt system, and go exploring to locate nearby resources, find hard drives, power slugs, somersloop, and Mercer spheres. This will allow you to build up materials needed to make all the foundations you were going to need in the early game. Some of the early hard drive recipes can be very beneficial, so it’s worth trying to find them early on.
Second is to make sure that you are unlocking things in the MAM. I put particular emphasis on getting over clocking and under clocking to make it easier to balance production lines and the rebar gun to make exploring far safer. Don’t forget that enemies respawn and can be made into biomass, so they can help power your bio burner grid.

Good tips. I'm often finding myself not quite sure on how big my production lines need to be. Should I be pumping out 40 Rotors/min? It can be difficult to know what is too much or too little. A video that outlines good baseline production targets to shoot for might be worthwhile.
A good rule of thumb is when you are waiting on product, or start manually crafting them again as you don't want to wait, that would be a good moment to increase the production of that product.
It is difficult to pinpoint the exact moment when to do this, as everyone plays a bit different. If you do a lot of exploring, then your storage will be filled to the brim and upgrading is less needed.

Amazing video, i just finished the reinforced iron plating, rotors and smart plating part of the factory. I think the math is off, it produces 40 iron plates instead of 30 (the ammount needed for the reinforce iron plates)

Hey Total, you'll probably never see this. Love your videos and thank you for all your guides. Feedback, I do wish you'd build from atop your machines to give a more birds eye view. Especially with jump cuts, first were looking here now all of a sudden we're over there. Standing on top of your smelter then your constructor as you go will help visualize the splitters and mergers part much more. Just because it's 1st person, doesn't mean we can't build from a top down view. I hope it helps everyone to understand your builds better!
I've found that I don't really notice the clipping items when I have the splitter directly on the lift when it's on top, it's really noticeable when it's on the bottom of a lift though.
One place you don't get any clipping is using that on a 0 height lift on a floor hole, which I've also found to be a massive help when doing roof conveyers. Just remember that the splitter/merger is 1 nudge off where you put the lift, so plan accordingly if you need exact placements.
Love the tips video, this is helpful! One thing that would probably help some people out at the end there when showcasing the finished layout is maybe overlaying images of the output resource for each building and the rate at which it outputs, makes it easier to understand after the fact of how the mergers / splitters are working at a glance!

I just got into the game yesterday and compared to Factorio, there are quite a few things that are different :) I learned a lot new here thank you :) I find the supply via the mines in particular much more complicated and makes it more difficult to scale up. What I would be interested in would be the supply of an initial factory and not just the production lines behind it

Would definitely love some similar videos of further phases/tiers. I would note...it may help to review the items/settings on the overview 'map' of the layout, or to perhaps be a bit clearer on which constructors you're specifying when building and setting up close. I used to use a lot of Spectrum Dad's videos where he would be very explicit (i.e. "in the 4th splitter in the 4th column" - always following a left-to-right format), but at a few moments in this video I was completely lost with "and now on THIS constructor" (no idea which of the 10 constructors in the layout we're referring to because we're too close and flipped around too much...or maybe it's just me). Really do love the layouts, though. After 200hrs on my pre-1.0 save (I was a late arrival over the summer), this is the first time I've fully automated Smart Plating or Modular frames.
Definitely interested in know when/how to increase production for those mid tier items. Also how to upscale existing early game factories.
I haven’t played update 1.0 yet but where I left off last time was not sure how to decide whether to scrap old factories to make higher outputs or add on to them. Also how to prioritize coal use.

wow, i am new to this game and that last modular frames factory completely broke my brain. i was looking at satisfactory tools planner to try and follow along with your video and for a while i was like, what your doing isn't adding up to what i see on the planner and it shouldn't add up to 5 modular frames at the end, my brain just was broken trying to understand it all. I sat here pausing video and looking at planner for so long until i finally understood what is going on math wise. I swear just looking at the planner alone i wouldn't have ever figured out how to run the splitters and underclocking to make all the numbers match the planner, yet i see how you did it! oh my goodness. Now i wonder if i'll be able to reproduce this myself on other factories or will i pull all my hair out. I am finding this all fascinating. It's a little confusing how the planner doesn't underclock the machines to be all the same speed but you are, i get why your doing it but was making looking at the planner confusing as it has often 2 machines at 100% and 1 at 50% and while in end it would work, it is just not perfect! Likely would just result in a long startup until everything is primed essentially and running smooth, in long term would work probably fine doing it like the planner though. I was also completely lost in planner trying to understand how it's possible to use belts to transfer 67.5 ingots on one line and 52.5 on other line, it just didn't seem possible to me at all, but now i get it watching you. The planner doesn't tell you at all how on earth you can achieve those kind of numbers. the iron pipes is what confuses me most on planner, showing 4 constructors with 3 at 100% and 1 at 50% it doesn't make any sense at all how they achieve numbers perfectly, i am guessing planner isn't load balancing at all and just using modular, but i see how you managed to load balance such crazy numbers.

A video about scaling beyond this would be really helpful. I'm new to the game and your videos have been very informative. I'm at the point where I can automate basic iron / copper / concrete and feel more comfortable with some items beyond that (rotors / reinforced iron plates), but I'm finding expansion beyond that difficult.
If I'm producing a good amount of early-game materials, say between 40 and 60 of wire, cable, copper sheet, iron rod, iron plate, screw, and concrete, it's what to do next that I feel lost with. Do I hook up the screws and plates I'm already producing to make reinforced iron plates for example, or should I be belting in another lot of 120/m iron ore specifically for reinforced iron plates, making the plates and screws again as part of that line?
When are resources gathered for the sake of having a reserve, and when should they be gathered and fed straight into a factory? I'm producing 40/m iron plates and 60/m screws on 120/m iron ore with my very basic starter factory, but if I belt those into an assembler to make reinforced iron plates I really struggle to see how to start producing anything else because I've used up everything I'm producing at that point.
Apologies if this doesn't make sense, but I would be hugely appreciative of any direction / guidance :)

Ah nice and simple.. i been subbed to nilaus and he started on this game again and man his constuctions seem to be so complex yet they are very simple as he is doing lot of modular stuff. I just need to get back learning basics again so i get hang of the game again as its been 3+ years since i last time played satisfactory so i can start testing more advanced builds.
As i am working 12 hour work shifts atm and a bit more relaxed days i spent time on "researching" this game how to play without needing to rebuild everything over and over again and avoiding crazy spaghetti conveyor belt mess :D
Also i am looking that i just start in middle of the map, might be a bit harsh start but i think thats the best place as i am "closest" to all resources on the map so i got shortest average distance to any resource. have gigantic factory in middle of map and just bring all resources with somewhat big work there but it will reward in late game i think.

The reinforced iron plates factory is slightly inefficient because it produces 40 regular plates per second and only uses 30 of them
I like the video format. One thing thay might help is color coordination. From the birds eye view its hard to tell things apart. Another option would be highlighting sections and labeling them in the overview in editing. Which ever is easier for you. Thanks for the drtailed explanations.

I'm at level 4 at the moment and the hardest thing for me is producing reinforced iron plate because it takes so long and the ones I do produce go into making smart plating.
You son of a sailor, you make me want to restart my spaghetti start. Edit: It's also just now, after hundreds of hours of playing, that I've learned you can type very specific numbers into the constructors and end up with numbers that have more than one digit after the decimal. 😳 Amazing.
You can also type in simple calculations as well, like 1/3 or whatever, and it'll work; i find that more appealing, considering that in some cases, hand-writing out decimals may not be precise enough (anything divided by 7 for instance...) Also, just to point out, bothoutput number and the clock percentage can be edited and be given decimals or expressions.

As I reach more into the mid game on my 1.0 save I think the setup I'd most like to see is one optimized for keeping the dimensional depot topped up. Just enough of everything that's used in building to not really have to worry about having materials on hand, with a side benefit of making tickets when the depot's full.
The issue with the dimensional depot is if you try to feed multiple items into it, when item maxes out it will block anything else. So you're forced to dedicate a dimensional depot to each individual resource, and each one needs a mercer sphere. So there's no special way to set it up really, except to attach one to any existing storage per part you would like access to. (I would be thrilled if I was wrong though)
You can do a little bit of math to find the percentage needed for a specific input rate: 100 / *
So in the case of concrete where you want 40: 100 / 45 * 40
The overhead view is fairly useful, but it would even *more* useful if (a) there was a small icon to show the recipe for each building, (b) there was a small icon to show the difference between splitters and mergers, and (c) if belts could have a colour overlay to show which were mk1 and which were mk2. At the moment, we have to look at the overhead view, then rewind back through the video to remind ourselves of the details.
Ideally, you only need to build this manually 2 times: First, this starter factory. Second, a blueprint designer. Although you may want a BPD Mk.2 and/or Mk.3 version, so 3 or 4 manual builds. Then spam bps across the map.

TIL you can type in the amount you want per miniute to the underclock instead of trying to guesstimate the percentage,
have a question, someone else said its better to place a splitter in front of each smelter, connect each splitter with eachother with mk2 and the each splitter with every smelter via mk1.
and the first splitter with the miner.
but i normaly built it like u did, from miner into first splitter, splitting up into 2 lanes, into 2 other splitters and then 2 smelter per splitter, so usin 3 instead of 4 splitters and only mk2 converter belt

I’m wondering how expandable things like these are. I think you can expand when you get mark 2 miners, higher mark conveyors, etc, but then you’ll be bottle necked by smelters, constructors, etc. You can overclock but only to a point and that would take a lot of power. Are these good for mid game expansion or would this be ditched in later phases?
really good stuff but if you want 1 comment that would be helpfull, may I sugest this. Colour code your splitters and mergers. When you zoomed out and show us the aireal view, we will be able to see at a glance what you have done, rather than keep going back to check what was a splitter and merger. thanks.. I will be giving this a go when I restart again in a minute as I made a huge mess of my last attempt..
I had to do everything on paper to work out the math because it seemed like it wasn't correct for the reinforced iron plates, smart plating and rotors. At least now I understand why Total put so many mergers in for the rods to screws. O.o The only overkill was the iron plates as you just need 30 but are sending 40 to the assembler.
When showing each of the blocks, maybe include how much power would be required to power each set.
This might be a stupid question - I noticed that screws are the only first tier material that is used a few times other than iron plates and iron rods. Could I just utilize those materials to build the advanced plates, rotors and frames and just make another screw plant to subsidize or once you make a plant that material is just kept in reserve? Or do we just take let’s say one iron normal node and make everything we need for let’s say rotors from that node? I guess I am a little confused right now. Sorry!

its less energy use for no efficienct loss. So its either Use more enegy to make X per minute or use less energy to make the same X per minute. Obviously using less energy is better and more efficient fuel wise.

As I unlock more alt recipes the math just gets harder and harder, do you take a little bit of loss for easier math or do you tweak to make perfect inputs and outputs with overclocking in early to mid game?
I've started in the rocky desert and as you know just from spawn if you go slightly NW there are 4 iron ore pure nodes, 1 limestone and 1 copper on top of the cliff, would I use all iron ore nodes as there isn't much space between them?
The unsaid truth here is that the progression in this game is punishingly slow and there's no good option to speed it up or skip it.
There are mod and save file edits that can do this in theory, but you'll find their efficacy lacking since they are not supported.
11:50 - On this section for Screws, if we're using Mark 1s, does that mean we need 2 storage for screws? Or can you merge at the end to go into 1 Storage?

Use normal fuel or turbo fuel, whatever you can automate to always have it available.
I get a single line producing normal fuel ASAP after I unlock it, efficiency be damned, just to get an unending supply of fuel.
I’m curious why you underclock the concrete constructors? If they are equally outpacing the conveyors, wouldn’t it not matter?
How do you make the buildings appear with your color scheme by default instead of the one in the game? I always have to change it one by one. Even when I clone. It only respects it in the blue prints.
