    Though I'm not a part of either belief system, I once saw a picture taken at a Hindu temple or Muslim mosque and there was wall of sayings or proverbs, one of which was "Life gives to the giver and takes from the taker."
    I can't get around much or donate much but next to the Little Free Library up the street from me is also a little pantry for food and health/hygiene supplies. I can help with cans of soup and other food items along with things for personal care. I'm thankful it's so easy for me to help people with immediate needs.
    Too a way to give is to just make time to meet with someone who needs to talk.
    Because of Covid restrictions and other factors there are people from my church whom I haven't seen in a long time. I started a project of sending handwritten letters to them to stay in touch and to let them know I haven't forgotten about them.

    I've always been a generous person but I have also been a very selfish person in my personal journey .Now I've changed the last couple years and I have done a 360 degree turn and I'm trying to teach my 2 youngest adult kids the same .I just turned 55 and I have a grandson now .I'm feeling so content with my life now. I'm not even rich nor am I loaded. LOL.BUT there are many ways to give .Thank you for this beautiful message. You're one of my biggest inspirations to turn into a minalmalist. I'm not like a bare home type, my family. But I've probably decluttered over the last two years over 2000 peices of clothing , slippers , shoes, boots , coats, knick knacks, home decor and more. It feels do freeing i just wish I could've implemented in my life sooner. Now I'm on a journey to pay off every CC and not use them , unless absolutely needed. I already know this journey will take longer then expected. But I'm willing to go on a 2 year no buy anything, unless we absoulutely need it .

    Generosity brings positive vibrations for the entire planet. We can't take it with us when we go. We only need a certain amount of materialistic things. We can give. We can understand for many of us have been in same situations. It would be a lonely world if we didn't have God's

    I won't speak to the meaning of life, but I do know what life is: it's a rebuke to entropy. Everything in the universe will end up cold, dark, and dead, but at this moment, something that is alive may continue to grow and thrive. At its most fundamental, life is caring: caring for ourselves -- making sure we have shelter and food so we can continue to live -- and caring for others, so that they, too, can grow and thrive. Life is caring. And life continues because of self-care and our care for each other. This is true regardless of one's religious beliefs or feelings on the meaning of life.

    The bad thing is if you decide to help someone (say financially) which I do, but then that person is so messed up emotionally or mentally at times that they get all flustered and mixed up whenever they experience what they deem as abuse from close family members (or others) and therefore can't seem to take care of business as they should. You'll give them money to help them out (with say) prescriptions they need, or some other need, and then they use it for a different "emergency" that came up and so don't have the money you gave them for the original need any longer. It's really frustrating!

      Learn from the experience. Don't give money to those that have proven that they will not use it for the stated purpose. If you still want to help them, change the way you give the money. Pick up the prescription yourself and pay the pharmacy directly. Ask the pharmacist if they can accept a payment from you and have the person pick it up later, if you prefer that. Do *not* allow the pharmacy to store your credit card info in their system.
      Same with groceries. If you give prepaid grocery cards and they misuse them, go to the store with them and pay at the register.
      Too much trouble or the other person objects? Trust your intuition and give to someone who will use your help as a hand up. Don't give to anyone who abuses your generosity, you are not helping them - not really.
      Sometimes it's just that a person isn't in the right state of mind to lift themselves up into a better life yet. That's not your fault, you can't force another person to grow, that's on them.

    • @samsmith6169
      @samsmith6169 2 роки тому +2

    Reputable studies note many Americans are generous to family, not others, and often give materially out of guilt for not spending more time with their child(ren) or spouse.
    Whereas altruistic people who often are also debt free, and more minimalist minded, tend to look outside themselves and the bigger picture.
    Where they see tangible proof that financial giving, along with actual hands on giving, to family, friends, and community actually helps improve the mind, body, spirit of the individual.

    Why must billionaires be asked to give food to hungry ppl or donations to help the environment? Are they that arrogant and greedy that they can't see the need on their own? I guess if their stomachs are full, they don't feel the pangs of hunger that so many needy others feel daily.😞🌐🙏

    • @Sheryl777
      @Sheryl777 3 роки тому

      Donna Woodford, (of course I am nowhere close to being a billionaire lol) but I have to say that many people who have money DO give to others. Yes there are always going to be some that don't. But just because a person is wealthy doesn't mean that they automatically always keep it all for themselves either. I think that's a stereotype that a lot of people believe but isn't actually true for the most part. If you stop to think about it, some very poor people are also thieves and robbers, but that doesn't mean that all of them are of course.

    • @donnawoodford6641
      @donnawoodford6641 3 роки тому

      @Sheryl777 I'm not trying to generalize based on monetary wealth nor lack thereof. Recently in the news, I read that billionaires were asked to donate to starving people on the planet. It seems that Elon Musk's response was that he would donate if the UN could tell him how the organization plans to manage the money. And Jeff Bezos indicated a fixed amount that he was willing to donate for environmental issues. I realize that sometimes the poorest give the most, and their gift comes generously from their hearts.💖💖💖

      @@donnawoodford6641 Ok well honestly I don't blame anyone for wanting to know how an organization plans to manage money (before they donate if they are asked to). That's just being a good steward of whatever you have to give. Also, both poor and rich people may give generously. Could be different things they give but I don't think one group is necessarily better than another group at giving though.

    Generosity isn't rare enough imo. Too many wolves out here. Start being more generous and you'll see how many people would LOVE to drink you dry

      I am more generous. And I have found life far more fulfilling using my excess to meet the needs of others.
