The first home of my own was on N.30th St. off Sycamore, near Bishop O'Connell HS. Walked to the Orange Line Metro at East Falls Church. Loved it. Convienent to everything.
In an otherwise on point video, your list of Metro stations was strangely incomplete, missing East Falls Church, Arlington Cemetery, Pentagon and National Airport (hey, that's another positive - we have our own airport!).
Thank you Kate for this great info on Arlington. IM leaving California and will be moving there at the end of the month. It is funny (to me) that you mention the high cost of living. Living in San Francisco /East Bay area, and comparing prices...looks like living in Arlington feels like Heaven to me already. My new apartment is in the Shirlington area . I almost fainted when I found out how much I was going to pay for a one bedroom compared to San Francisco!!! Meaning , I will actually have money leftover in my paycheck!!! I.m a biker and I cant wait to hit the many trails that I have already been scooping out on line. I will rent for a couple of years in order to get a feel for the areas....I hope everything goes well because I will be planning to buy a house and settle . Thank you Kate .
Congrats on your new place in Shirlington. You'll love it there and make sure you try Carlyle Grand and Best Buns asap. My favorite little massage place is in Shirlington too, Nirvana Reflexology Spa (truly affordable!). Keep in touch, kate@kateherzig.com.
When you mentioned about San Francisco alot of people are moving out I am meeting people here in Massachusetts that moved here from san Francisco the cost and crime problems. Although when moving into Boston and its direct area it is just as expensive it does have its share of bad stuff but like she mentioned about the pros and cons basically the same thing. The farther west in the state of Massachusetts you live the less expensive renting and buying a home get. But the west side is more low income based communities.
Hi. I do have a Cost of Living Video, but I need to update (hint, it's even pricier now). Here is a great link for crime rates: www.arlingtonva.us/Government/Departments/Police-Department/Crime-Statistics
The housing stock in the area is so out of date compared to even lower cost cities like Austin, Denver, Charlotte, and Atlanta. The houses in NoVa are also quite ugly, the only really nice and modern ones are all for a million plus.
Hello there Kate! Glad to see your video. Just a quick question, are there any areas in Arlington VA that a small family could live decently like mine (one 2yo daughter and spouse whose also have a similar profession as mine) who can only make i would say roughly $8100 usd a month (i was getting similar salary though during my previous UK based employer) for a job role that I am interested to get in within the company? I'd fully appreciate your kind response. Thanks in advance!
ExiledGuardian thanks for the comment and question! The answer is yes if you’re open to a townhouse, duplex, or condo? Email me to chat further. Would love to know about your family and the company you work for. Fingers crossed you get the job you applied for, good luck!
@@KateHerzig Yes they're fine for us but are there any sub urban areas like we could have our own 2 car garage, a master bedroom and an extra bedroom? We don't mind driving 30-40mins from home going to our work place or city centre.
Next time you do this style of pro con video. Please start with the pros. You will get higher ratings, because people want to hear nice things. Not the cold hard truth. Atleast that way I can skip to the next video before you say the cons. Because all I care about is living in my peaceful online world. Because the real world is currently fucked up. But I bet trump will save us. :) its his charitable mission afterall.
@@DarknessFalls29 yep D.C. literally had 3 different people come up to my window out of nowhere at red lights asking for change within a 30 minute time span. When I go to arlington county I mostly just see regular people going about their day or the occasional service member walking around in uniform.
Kate thanks so much amazing information and you should be running for Mayor such a wonderful spokesperson for Arlington 🤗👍🏻
too kind! glad you watched :)
Great video!!
Many thanks!

There is great Public Transportation! No need to pay for parking if you do that. (Or take an uber at the very least)
Excellent video!
I loved how you threw in "garden tools"!!
Hey, us city folks need those sometimes LOL
I been living in NYC for 8 years and the cons are the same as here, im used to it already I think Arlington will be a good location for me! 😂
We'd love to have you!
NYC cost is the same as Boston. Every building that gets renovated will also cost more as well.

You’re so right!

Why the hell is it so expensive?
Location to DC and the lack of available land are the 2 biggest reasons.
! OMG !. ! What a beautiful woman !. I just fell in love. Don't pay any attention to me, I'm an elderly pensioner. like

One more con. Too many street beggars.
You're on point with that one.
It's not as bad as D.C. So, tolerable.
