Lived in Arlington for about 5 years (Rosslyn, Crystal City, and Ballston). Great place to be single and great paying jobs in the area. Owned a car but used public transport as much as possible. Compared to other neighboring counties (Fairfax, Alexandria, etc), Arlington is the better choice for a non family person.

Lack of parking is not a con. Less parking = less cars = less traffic = less noise.

As a life-long Fairfax County resident, I could never imagine moving to Arlington! Haha. That being said, I do see why it's so popular for folks to live there. You get access to the city, with both urban or suburban lifestyle access. I think a lot of people think of living in NoVa is mainly for people who work in DC proper, but the sprawl of the area makes NoVa its own destination. I know plenty of people who live in Reston or McLean and work in Arlington, and rarely go to the city. To me, that's what makes this such a strong housing market - not everyone works in DC, they work all over the place.

I need to do a Fairfax one. Any areas you suggest?

@@ChrisColgan I'd definitely start with the development from Tyson's to Reston, how lots of new homes and offices are being tied to the metro expansion (although will we ever see a day the Silver Line successfully runs out to Ashburn?). So there's a pro if public transport works - con if it doesn't! I'd also say pro is the affordability of home prices down 95S - but the traffic on there is terrible! Pro - definitely the schools if you have kids, lots of employment opps in tech, engineering, federal, defense, public service. Cons - Traffic, Development disorganization (i.e. 66), Costs (Reston used to be affordable and now new home builds go for 800K+ easily!

I rented in Arlington when I moved to the area 11 years ago. When I got married, we decided to buy a house in Fairfax County. After two years of living in Fairfax we missed Arlington so much that we moved back and rented while we waited for a single family home in Virginia Square to hit the market in our price range. Six years later, I love this place more than ever and have no regrets. Raising a child here is great with access to the parks and great schools.

Are there any cities that are less in housing near Arlington. Like if you work there but dont want to live there (due to the housing)
