This is beyond beautiful... really. The title of this really does exemplify Astraea's tragic struggle to do the right thing, even without her God, who she no longer had faith in to help those who needed it most. Her dedication in trying to help those shunned and neglected by their cruel God makes her rise even above him, I think. Even if she done so by using a Demon's Soul, her *intention* and *use* of that power was wholeheartedly pure, which makes her miracles the purest of them all, not "impure" as the self-righteous and misleaded church would claim. If it's true, as Allant says, that God created the Old One to harvest all souls to end the "suffering" of life, then he's perhaps the most impure entity of them all. To destroy the souls of all sentient people because, in his view, it would be a mercy killing, is an affront to the meaning of life itself. Astraea saw this, and realized that even if she couldn't erase all the pain and suffering for the people of the Valley, she would not allow their lives to be devoid of hope, and so she stood before them... she threw down her talisman, and dared to use the soul of a Demon to do the right thing. Her sheer force of will to comfort and heal those abandoned in the wretched Valley was enough to control even the soul of an Archdemon... and in doing so, she reluctantly turned her back on the short-sighted church. No, it's revealed that God created the Old One to destroy humanity. King Allant's dialogue in endgame is "God is merciful, and so, created the Old One. The Old One will feed upon our souls, and put an end to our tragic realm of existence!" :)
Xenos369 You're right! That's what I like, there's multiple interpretations of it all. So in that sense, the symbol of God they believed in was actually the Old One, but that doesn't mean God doesn't exist, but rather that Miracles didn't come from the symbol of him, but rather the Old One, as the Soul arts did.

The fact that Bluepoint probably didn't even consider hiring you for the Demon's Souls remake's OST is criminal. They MUST have known about you. This blows the remake's OST for Astraea out of the water. Straight up. Just IMAGINE this, orchestrated with a live orchestra. I'm sad now. E: Also, as a sidenote, not a criticism or anything, but this theme reminds me a LOT about Zero Escape games, especially that string melody starting at around 1:25. Love those games and their OST though, just a funny coincidence which I wanted to point out.
Maiden Astraea is my favorite arch demon, her motives were the most pure in nature... She wanted to bring justice to those who had none... Heal the sickly, the dying, the filthy, the abandoned, and clene the filth of the Valley of Defilement...
I am many things. A Demon Hunter meant to save a land plagued by a monstrous fog. A Chosen Undead destined to preserve humanities fire or plunge it into darkness. I am a cursed man looking for a way to preserve his long lost life. A Hunter of beasts whose very blood is tainted. And last, but certainly, not least: I am a king slayer. Made from nothing more than the ashes of a hero long since gone.
I want a Demon's Souls remake for PS4, not remastered HD, but a total remake with more areas to explore and more improvements to the world tendency system, and with the updated animations and gameplay like Dark Souls or even Bloodborne... that would be my dream game.... Demon's Souls on PS3 doesn't hold up very well for me, I beat it twice and love it, but it could have been my favorite Souls game instead of second favorite, had it not for the minor flaws and unimproved gameplay, Dark Souls still has the best gameplay in any Souls game, that's why the gameplay in Bloodborne is more similar to Dark Souls instead of DSII or Demon's Souls Miyazaki knows what's the best for his new project
AVicious Hunter that 6th archstone is the place in the end if you somehow either died to Allant or left it by other means. No one just leaves the place where the Old one should be slumbering.
***** That's just a theory. And it doesn't make that much sense IMO because you have a separete archstone to go down there. What eveidence do you have?
I'm gonna be 100% honest, this is my favourite song of all time. This is the only song that makes me feel so emotional that I start to cry. Everytime that I hear it.
This is truly a beautiful piece of music. It captures the hopelessness and bleak setting of Demon's souls, and also gives the listener melancholy as well. Alex, you are definitely a talented musician and you should never stop creating remixes like this one. I wouldn't even call this a remix, I would call it original since I never actually played Demon's Souls myself. But seriously, From Software should definitely hire you as their new composer, good work! Keep up the great work! -John
This was an OST from my fave game on roblox (Arcane Adventures). Your work is amazing Alex, I would often sit on the island it was the theme to and simply listen to the music.
Oh wow that's amazing! I think I heard this song was in that fairly recently but to know someone really enjoyed the remix and found it here is even cooler.
The original was really fast pace like it was meant for battle but this version has so much realism, it really feels like a duty but a sad one at that. You did amazing.
I truly hope they do but I'm not holding my breath. Who knows, maybe they will make one that rivals this. Gonna be hard to match this though. It is truly a masterpiece.
@@glctcthnkr8059 Richard Carmine is not referring to the original song. He is saying he wants this remix/ re-envisioning of the song to replace the original. If it were up to me have the original play during the main fight with Garl Vinland. When he dies and you approach Astraea a cut scene could take place showing her remorse of loosing Vinland, talking some to show a bit more background, and then take her life. It would be super heart wrenching.
2022, and though I am late to the party, I want you all to know that Demon Souls and this remix are both a masterpiece even now. And they will forever be a masterpiece, even in the far future. ☺️
I discovered this tract from a DS3 video about Regen build. While I've heard the original song, I didn't recognize the song despite the overwhelming nostalgia. I want to give my sincere praise for rearranging this song. To me, this didn't seem like a song about despair but hope. I interpreted the piano as the difficulties. It is persistent throughout most of the song and its tone gives weight to the song. Then there is the occasional flute? violin? which seems to be struggling and defying against the hardship presented as the piano part. When I first heard the song I imagine an athlete waking up before sun rise for a run and the surrounding is slowly becoming brighter. I find myself listening to this tract when I need some motivation. Thank you Alex, this is beautiful.
Honestly . . . a heart wrenching experience for me. Garl Vinland and Maiden Astraea make such a great fucking tale. This rendition totally captures everything that makes their story so excellent. It captures the hope these two must have felt before entering the fog, and how they carried that hope through such a wretched place. To ease the suffering of those who dwelt within it. Climaxing and ending on such a sad note, just when poor Saint Astraea became a demon :(
This and Hellkite's remix of the theme speak (to me at least) in two different, but equally good ways. I could see Hellkite's as more of a theme for Garl Vinland, and this being a theme for Astraea.
This is an astonishing work of art. You've breathed life back into a song that lived in the hearts of Demon's Souls players everywhere, and brought all the feels along with it. Keep it up!
I am speechless and almost want to cry after remembering Astraea's story. Just hearing her words while this was playing sent chills down my spine. I have truly fallen in love with this beautiful remix you have made. Keep up the good work I'm cheering for you!
To this day I still wonder...why? Why do we kill Garl Vinland and Astraea? Those who were only attempting to help the ones lost and thrown away in a Valley of Defilement, forgotten by the world. Was it simply for their soul? Did they have some alternative motive? I don't think so...I can never get to the end of this boss without feeling remorse for snuffing out the only light these lost and forgotten souls have. I always ask...why?
+Raven Ashareth As long as they have that demon soul; and for as long as they continue to empower that soul, the Old One will feed from their exploits. Astraea was trying to do something noble. But she did it selfishly; knowing full well the consequences of her actions. And yet, even so, she persisted in healing and soothing the weak and frail - those abandoned to suffer and fester under the boot of her church's influence. We kill Astraea to gain access to the Old One. We kill Astraea to take away the very tools with which she hopes to help the sick and downtrodden. We take Astraea's soul in order to take away all the souls, forever. Unless we decide to join the Old One, then we kind've kill everybody cus, y'know, magic exists now and we like it. ;p
+Raven Ashareth Astraea is a moral predicament, its a shame the game doesn't give you a choice on what to do, but it is the inevitable. How could God let this pain and agony exist? Astraea took the soul of a demon and made a haven/sanctuary for all the lost and forgotten... in response. But, is she really doing good? She creates a haven that perpetuates pain and doesn't let go of it, its stagnant. its a stalemate. Furthermore, I've always been suspicious of Astraea's intentions because when you enter the boss room there are worshippers. Astraea kinda became "God" for those people who had nobody, but her work can be seen both as "salvation" but also as a prison that feeds futhermore in your suffering while providing a false state of "comfort", a layer of hell... "False Hope" that's Astraea's biggest sin.
+Raven Ashareth Astrea is inhabited by the soul of a demon that must have be harvested. As the slayer of demons, naturally she must die. Garl just happens to be in the way. It's nothing personal. Their deaths work for the greater good in lulling the Old One back to it's slumber, so their sacrifice is a Mabel one.
I gotta say, i've listened to a few of your remixes before, but I didn't actually subscribe until now. This sounds absolutely amazing. I feel like I can actually hear the dialogue come in at the end. "Take your precious Demon soul..."
I got instant nostalgia when I heard this Man, I should go replay Demon's again. Thank you Roe, you made me go play a masterpiece of a game just by making a masterpiece of a song
Why does this not have more views?! It's incredible! Pretty much all of your music is top notch, feels-inducing, and just overall beautiful to listen to.
Alex, Hollywood should hire you more often that Hanz Zimmer. Any single one of your demon's souls remixes is (are??) more powerful - to me - than Hanz's entire music library combined. There's only so many times you can hear a crunchy snare, bass drum and bass strings and associate the physical impact of that on your sternum to emotional engagement. Your music is truly beautiful - even if based on other, also beautiful music - and you should be proud.
This was a soundtrack on one of my favorite games ever, known as Arcane Adventures. I remember the first time i heard this soundtrack, I was shocked, this was also the end for the player's friend known as Theos. Theos was a God that was getting to a point where he could not fight anymore for the player, and his life was ending. He gave the player his armor piece for the left arm, and then said goodbye. The game was discontinued due to the Roblox platform updating their servers, which ended up breaking the script for Arcane Adventures, which made the creator of the game announce he would discontinue the game. Its been 3 years now since that has happened, and I still get emotional to this day, wondering if the creator will ever make a sequel...
Holy crap.. dude this is my favorite song from all of the games by far, this remix just knocks it out of the park almost as if bringing me to walk through that fight all over again in slow motion feeling the resentment against demons, but the regret of taking what pure light was among them. RIP Maiden Astraea the real MVP who took the biggest one for her team and despite being an archdemon was STILL trying to help the abandoned.
An absolute masterpiece..... the original was already one of my favorite game themes of all time and its hard to imagine a fan-made version ever topping it, but yours is indeed even better XD
I'm always weary of covers-- especially those for really great songs. However, you totally hit it out of the park with this one. Fantastic job, my friend.
I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the valley of defilement. We have seen most of the areas in the few screenshots and trailer already. The ones that are missing are the nexus(which is the BEST HUB in the series), Valley of Defilement, and the final area you meet the old one at the beach.
I'll admit that I haven't gotten much into the Souls series yet, but I ran into this and holy crap man.. I had to go find the original to compare it and you did the theme a great justice. Keep on with the music, you're making people happy with it.

Demon's Souls was amazing game. Though it had its fair share of glitches.
Time for a new generation of gamers to feel anxiety in the valley of defilement.
unfortunately they butchered the song in the remake
@@Griffith-Did-Nothing-Wrong you do realize the original composer of demon's souls expressed satisfaction with the new OST right
@@RegalRoyalWasTaken don't care what the composer thinks.
Fitting theme for The Most Impure Demon.
Thax max You ruined it.
This is the original "I've won... but at what cost?"
I want a Demon's Souls remake for PS4, not remastered HD, but a total remake
with more areas to explore and more improvements to the world tendency system, and with the updated animations and gameplay like Dark Souls or even Bloodborne...
that would be my dream game....
Demon's Souls on PS3 doesn't hold up very well for me, I beat it twice and love it, but it could have been my favorite Souls game instead of second favorite, had it not for the minor flaws and unimproved gameplay, Dark Souls still has the best gameplay in any Souls game, that's why the gameplay in Bloodborne is more similar to Dark Souls instead of DSII or Demon's Souls
Miyazaki knows what's the best for his new project
Imagine visiting the 6th broken achstone...
TheBloodthirsty Crow
stop, It only hurts more (′‧ω‧‵)
鄭皓宇 I know... It's like imagining flamelurker with a cooler skin and fire effect... Too painful
Man this is just beautiful especially in the middle where it just kept building up that shit made me tear up ngl😔
Why didn't Bluepoint think about this... really this is perfect.
The remake ost is good but not godlike like this.
Astraea's theme is what made her one of my favourite boss fights from DeS. You captured it perfectly, and made it hauntingly beautiful. Great stuff.
-John
Hey Alex, just want you to know, that we're right behind ya, no matter what
I was moved emotionally by the story about the characters. And, I was struck by the musical piece. Which resulted me shedding manly tears.
I'm still playing this song even after 4 years since i have discover it
*WHY SO EPIC MAN?... YOU TOUCHED MY HEART!*
This truly captures the tragedy and sorrow behind her story, heartbreaking and beautiful.
The original was really fast pace like it was meant for battle but this version has so much realism, it really feels like a duty but a sad one at that. You did amazing.
THIS SONG MUST BE IN THE REMAKE
I truly hope they do but I'm not holding my breath. Who knows, maybe they will make one that rivals this. Gonna be hard to match this though. It is truly a masterpiece.
I don’t think they’ll remove it. I mean, why would they?
@@glctcthnkr8059 Richard Carmine is not referring to the original song. He is saying he wants this remix/ re-envisioning of the song to replace the original. If it were up to me have the original play during the main fight with Garl Vinland. When he dies and you approach Astraea a cut scene could take place showing her remorse of loosing Vinland, talking some to show a bit more background, and then take her life. It would be super heart wrenching.
Still come back to this day!
You've got a heart of gold, don't let them take it from you.
that was so beautiful. Thank you
2022, and though I am late to the party, I want you all to know that Demon Souls and this remix are both a masterpiece even now.
I come here from Arcane Adventures. Anyone who has played it long enough, knows that Sunrise Ravine is the most beautiful place in the game.
Fingers crossed for Arcane Odyssey🤞
Agreed.
@@jester5106🙏
Arcane adventures is the game that made me really appreciate music in games
Honestly . . . a heart wrenching experience for me.
Oh my god, its so beautiful. Despair, melancholy, struggle, strength, fragility, will to live, acceptance of death in the end.
This is an astonishing work of art. You've breathed life back into a song that lived in the hearts of Demon's Souls players everywhere, and brought all the feels along with it. Keep it up!
Sunrise Ravine🥶🥶🥶
I am speechless and almost want to cry after remembering Astraea's story. Just hearing her words while this was playing sent chills down my spine. I have truly fallen in love with this beautiful remix you have made. Keep up the good work I'm cheering for you!
This is honestly better than what they settled on.
done it justice??? this song brought me to tears.... I listen to it always. what an incredible masterpiece you've made... (happy tears)
Now all it needs is an awesome cinematic showing us her trek through the valley and gaining her demon soul.
What will you stand for, if God turns against you? Accept your fate, or prove that he is wrong?
Very inspiring :D
God needs a friend not a minion
One of the best boss battles ever made.... " sniff "
Great, now the hype train has me binging OSTs and remixes.
Unless we decide to join the Old One, then we kind've kill everybody cus, y'know, magic exists now and we like it. ;p
+Raven Ashareth Because if we hadn't killed her, the fog would've killed everybody, including those she was trying to help. It was the only option.
+Raven Ashareth
Astraea is a moral predicament, its a shame the game doesn't give you a choice on what to do, but it is the inevitable.
+Boxtrolls not a god a martir .....
This and "I had a Name" are seriously some of the most amazing remixes i've ever heard. You have some amazing talent
Amazing. With piano being my favorite instrument, this brought me to tears. I hope Vaati uses this in his next video. Such a powerful peace.
i so wish the remake ost was more like your remixes. your stuff is gold.
I got instant nostalgia when I heard this
Man, I should go replay Demon's again. Thank you Roe, you made me go play a masterpiece of a game just by making a masterpiece of a song
Wall St. Thanks man, the Demon's love is strong lately. I know I gotta get one run in on it, at least before Bloodborne.
Why does this not have more views?! It's incredible! Pretty much all of your music is top notch, feels-inducing, and just overall beautiful to listen to.
It's been 3 years... still deeply in love with this song.
I'm honestly amazed I'm only finding this now. This is some good shit, great work.
Its been 3 years now since that has happened, and I still get emotional to this day, wondering if the creator will ever make a sequel...
there is a sequel called world of magic and a remake of aa called arcane reborn both are very good
@@defrgt-m9s I know, I've played both for well over 300 hours :P
theos wasnt a god, just a powerful wizard
@@humanoidshrek5524 yeah i learned that a few months after i posted this.
Holy crap.. dude this is my favorite song from all of the games by far, this remix just knocks it out of the park almost as if bringing me to walk through that fight all over again in slow motion feeling the resentment against demons, but the regret of taking what pure light was among them. RIP Maiden Astraea the real MVP who took the biggest one for her team and despite being an archdemon was STILL trying to help the abandoned.
Brilliant! This perfectly captures the emotion of Astraea's perilous journey, disturbing realization, and tragic end.
After listening to this remix and thinking about how sad Astraea story is I almost cried.
Well done.
If I made a game, you would be the first person I'd ask to compose the score...
But could you match his perfection?
Demon's souls is currently on sale 70% off on PSN store. Just thought to mention.
on ps4 or ps3
ps3, the game isn't on ps4
+Fulcrum9 whyyyyyy ;-;
+Shroud 42 I can feel your pain...
Just Some Dude nobody cares about xbox lol its a good console but not has famous has playstation no ofense
Bluepoint games should hire you bro. Amazing job
An absolute masterpiece..... the original was already one of my favorite game themes of all time and its hard to imagine a fan-made version ever topping it, but yours is indeed even better XD
You uploaded this masterpiece in my birthday. This remix is the best gift ever, thank you so much.
That music absolutely destroyed me. It tugged on my emotions in ways I can't possibly express. Well done, and thank you.
Been seeing your work for years, and this one still hits like a truck, you're amazing!
I'm always weary of covers-- especially those for really great songs. However, you totally hit it out of the park with this one. Fantastic job, my friend.
man, im in loss of words.
I just stumbled upon this video from Astraea OST, and this remix is just amazing.
Came back here because of the new demons souls remake..now we will see the the valley of defilement.. HD and we going get the feels in HD as well..
I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the valley of defilement. We have seen most of the areas in the few screenshots and trailer already. The ones that are missing are the nexus(which is the BEST HUB in the series), Valley of Defilement, and the final area you meet the old one at the beach.
Ah, fantastic. This manner of content is exactly why I love the Souls games as much as I do. I can't wait to see what else you come out with!
This sounds similar to some Journey soundtracks. And I'm glad you did this remix, Maiden Astraea was my favorite Souls track.
I'll admit that I haven't gotten much into the Souls series yet, but I ran into this and holy crap man.. I had to go find the original to compare it and you did the theme a great justice. Keep on with the music, you're making people happy with it.
+ElectronsToWaves Sooooo what you think of the original?
Man, this is so good. Well done!
Words can not even begin to describe how beautiful I find this song to be. Your really out did yourself sir. Fantastic job
Damn such a huge task to undertake, making a remix of this awesome track.
Nailed it, of course lol.
Finally the remake is coming!
All your remixes are brilliant dude, I have no words.... Just keep doing your thing man and know you made one more guy across the world shed a tear. :)
Alex this is simply gorgeous. I think this may be my new favorite from you.
LeadxGuitarist Damn that's really awesome, I wasn't expecting that!
The Number of Views of this Video seriously lacks some zeroes :')
Beautifully remixed, I applaud you, good sir!
Like always.. crazy beautiful
Most impure demon soul. Empathized with the long and forgotten, soothed their suffering, yet didn't stop them from collecting souls for her.
Messing with the speed settings while listening to this is awesome.
i cant stop coming back to this song its so good
That intro is too good... the feels.
