That is not completely true, in 2007 a few contestants in the top 5 gave the greetings in Spanish, they greeted to the audience Mexico was the host, those were Brasil, Japón, USA and even venezuela but she speak Spanish as her first language

Venezuela got a tricky question and she had to be careful with her answer as it was political. She deserved to place higher..but that question ruined her chance.
These latina contestants totally understand english and can speak it well. they don’t need interpreters. they’re lucky they get to have more time to think about their answers while the translator translates their questions-questions they already understand right from the start.

@@ov7spears 1, está respondiendo en inglés cuando no es su idioma natal, 2 es una pregunta politica la cual debe ser mas cautelosa de contestar, sin mencionar que si estabas en contra del gobierno podían matarte y 3 para culminar, de hecho ella fue asesinada, junto con su esposo, tiempo después regresando a venezuela de visita, dejando a su hija huerfana. Desde tu mente de confort obviamente esta pregunta se te hace fácil de contestar porque no sabes lo que implica realmente tu respuesta frente a miles de personas, bajo una situación dictatorial crítica.
Es obvio que hizo esa cara porque le añadieron cosas a su pregunta. Si te das cuenta, hace la mueca a la mitad de la pregunta.
Mexico explicó porque es que puso esa pregunta, ese año las candidatas hacían su pregunta y esa le iba tocar a otra candidata, explicó que no era su intención si no que fue lo primero que pensó además de que eran al azar, la misma pregunta le pudo tocar a Canadá o puerto rico
