I’m literally from the USA 🇺🇸, and I know for a fact that Olivia shouldn’t have won that year let alone the top 5 wtf . Janine was clearly the winner ! And I’m just being honest! This year the Philippines actually deserved it unlike some other years in my opinion

Philippines gave the WORST answer : popular with uneducated masses but closed-minded when one listens to it carefully. The comments from people who are not in the judging panel, unable to accept their candidates’ limitations are extremely tiresome & make the contest even less interesting.
Miss Universe is first and foremost a diplomat who should have master at the very least two languages.
Olivia is like talking to your friends casually, while Janine speaks eloquently as an international ambassador. She should've won. We knew it already.
As Miss Universe you have to show your personality and also you need to speak to all different types of people, not just ambassadors, so Olivia was the correct choice because she was relatable

In my opinion, when she (Philippines) said that "as long as your heart is to serve and you have a strong mind to show to people, then you can be Miss Universe", this is a wrong statement and if it was correct, then Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Angelina Jolie can become Miss Universe. We know it takes more than influencing and inspiring to become Miss Universe. It takes beauty, personality and relatability. Miss Philippines' answer is a textbook answer (we've heard this answer from so many pageant contestants from different versions of pageantry so this is no longer an original slogan). Miss USA on the other hand is bubbly and more relatable than the Philippines who is somehow contained within the pageantry standard. So Olivia won, not Janine.
Based on the answers alone, I think Miss Philippines did a phenomenal job! I thought she was going to win after listening to her answer.

No , it's not language is regular used , it's basic used of all people. Venezuela was the winner until this very moment based on the performance. Then her answer took her away the crown. Based on the answer, Philippines was the winner. I really like Olivia, she’s one of my favorite Miss Universes, but honestly she didn’t deserve to win

I think that because, you also can see Venezuela's mistake and it could be a destiny signal to answer: it should be...
I think that judges knew with certain that Venezuela would answer in English in final (and as we've seen her English isn't as good as her performance) and for that reason they chose Venezuela to answer first and in this way show to Philippines that English is important to be a Miss Universe.

This is the edition of MU that really shocks and Dissapoint me when it comes to announcing the winners..As overall Performance you can see Miss Philippines is definitely the Winner in this edition...Until now its really hard to understand the criteria of MU organization way back that year😴😴😴

Specifically when it comes to Evening gown and Intellectual skills

And in IMG era the winner girls have more facial dynamics and a fierce aura. With more individuality
Simply what a woman expected to be a Miss Universe.
And I think Olivia Culpo fit Trump era

Venezuela was more like the Trump era queen, but she just lost because she spoke in English and she wasn't able to convey her thoughts clearly. Remember that Venezuela was the clear front runner before the Q&A.

In a recent interview with the ex Miss Venezuela director, he confessed that before the final question the MU organization took all Miss venezuela’s belongings to the presidential suit of the hotel since she had the highest score so far and was the favorite to win that night. After her final question everything changed and when the show was over Miss venezuela wanted to change her dress to go to the after show party and she wasn’t allowed to do it. When she insisted to change her dress the MU person in charge had to tell that it was imposible because all her belongings were taken to the presidential suit of the hotel where the winner was at the moment. In other words “ you were the winner but you flunk it at the end and we had no time to bring your belongings back to your room”

Is that true? Scores in Miss Universe merely determines who move on in the competition. There are many times in the past when the judges made their final decisions, the highest scorer did not win.

A curiosity that Brazil said after some years was that she would answer in English but she got tense after see Venezuela struggling to answer, besides the woman who translate her question also struggled to translate and that's why Brazil's seems a little bit tense while she answer the question and gave up to answer in English...

Philippines deserved the crown, her answer was perfect, she wasn't the most pretty, but she was the most intelligent. I'm still sad for Venezuela, she had to speak in her original language.

I really hate this moment back in 2012. Philippines got the best answer, but she ended up first runner up over miss USA. There's a clear bias decision from the judges and might be the venue affects their way of thinking. It is painful, because no matter how we shout that Philippines is much deserving than the crowned one, we can't get back the moment. 🇵🇭

I don’t know how they score the girls in the Top 5. Is it just based from the Q&A round or is it Q&A and Final Look combined scores? But if I were to choose the winner based from the content and delivery of the answers in the Q&A round, the ranking should have been:
MU - Philippines
1st RU - Australia
2nd RU - USA
3rd RU - Brazil
4th RU - Venezuela
Olivia literally contradicted the question 😭😭the question was something she did that she would never do again. And then she said that she didn’t regret it 😶
And so what? Something you would never do again doesn’t mean you have to regret it. Venezuela was the one who should’ve won but she messed up her response. Janine got an easy question with only one possible response while Olivia tackled a much harder one and showcased her personality. This was how Sushmita Sen won over Aishwarya Rai.

I was 13 yrs old during this year, But I already knew that the judging panel was very subjective in making USA won this year. Base on QNA portion, it could have been AUS and PH.

Winner - Australia (straight and simple)
1st - Brazil (meaningful but not so specific)
2nd - Philipines (very great answer but her outfit and face isn't miss-universe material tbh sorry)

I believe that almost all of the people all over the world agreed that the Philippines should have won. And with this edition, it should have been better if the Final question should only be one to be asked for top 5. (same what has been done in recent years) "Same one Question will also be more fair as to level of difficulty and more easy to assess answers by the judges". Cheers!
Philippines clearly killed the Q&A. Short but direct to the fckn point. SHE ATE AND LEFT NO CRUMBS.
USA didn't deliver the right answer, she was just being charming. This was the most embarassing winner ever in this competition, they totally stolen the crown from someone else's head on that night.

Olivia’s answer should make her 4th runner up.
I feel bad for Philippines because I thought she would win that night but suprise surprise it was USA who won, she definitely nailed Q and A! As for Irene Esser (Venezuela), if she didn't answered in English, she could've said what she wanted to say in the audience and probably won Miss Universe 2012 that year. And as for Olivia Culpo (USA), although her performance was decent for me probably, I think why she won because Trump is looking for a princess pretty type of girl and Olivia fits that type that's why she won Miss Universe 2012. But I'm still thankful that Janine finished as 1st runner up and Irene as 2nd runner up. PS: I love Australia and Brazil too. ALL OF THEM ARE SO BEAUTIFUL! ❤️❤️❤️

This was during the Trump era when the criteria for Miss Universe was a lot more superficial but inconsistent. Venezuela almost won but botched her Top 5 answer. Had the IMG era format been in place, Philippines, Australia and Brazil would've had one of the toughest Final 3 showdowns in Miss Universe history given their performances all competition long during this edition, with U.S.A. losing in the Top 5.
Its been 10 years and still can't move on with Ms.PHILIPPINES Q n A answer for me it's the winning answer.

As far as I have seen Trump era's Miss Universe are pretty polished and Princess type, bow down collected girl.
Specifically when it comes to Evening gown and Intellectual skills

And in IMG era the winner girls have more facial dynamics and a fierce aura. With more individuality
Simply what a woman expected to be a Miss Universe.
And I think Olivia Culpo fit Trump era

Besides answering the question well, Janine managed to work the least appealing gown in the competition. Clearly the winner. Months before the competition, I actually had a dream that she won and that it was broadcasted on national TV. Man! That still makes me feel that something was definitely not right the night of that competition. 😔
I guess when the judges make their decisions during the final look, that gown worked against her. It was tacky, you can see her underpants through beneath it.
