    The Fantastic Four was and has always been the wholesome entry into comics and superheros. With Deadpool cracking the R rating code why not put the F4 back where they belong in PG or G? There is nothing wrong with setting them as a foundation for the next generation of comic fans. The Jessica Alba versions were decent, sold well and have quite a bit of rewatch value on cable/netflix. There is no need to take all franchises dark. Keep the F4 light and family friendly.

      +Louisville UAV Studios really seem to think they can aim super hero movies at a bigger audience if they "mature" the stories and characters by making them all dark and gritty.
      Characters like Superman and the Fantastic Four don't work when being portrayed as depressed, tortured souls.

      +Remc0 Schedel Actually, the Fantastic Four actually were known and praised for being so and reacting and behaving like normal people and Superman just started to get good once they explored his humanity and moral issues (this doesn't mean turning him into Ayn Rand's ideal superhero *looking at you Snyder*).

    • @remc0s
      @remc0s 8 років тому

      Arturo Casab You better look at Alan Moore.
      Snyder didn't create the Watchmen, he just made a movie adaptation of Moore's graphic novel.
      The characters were very spot on.

      Remc0 Schedel I was referring to Superman, his work on Watchmen was impecable because he altere nearly nothing of it, the movie was a square by square adaptation of the novel.

    The most interesting thing about this movie for me is that it illustrates how studios have a hard time in the adapting the DC and Marvel properties. Disney when it bought Marvel was not just expanding its library of intellectual properties but buying a company that knew how to adapt those properties in really profitable ways which is something every other studio has done with mixed success.

      +Cameron McEwen Never gonna happen. They genuinely think that losing a few million (which is what happened, they had a 175 mil buget and made, so far, 165mil world wide) and keep Marvel from making a cent off of this ip, fox will keep it.

    • @cameronmcewen7192

      +TheGreatDanish With all the pain and suffering they went through, why would they keep the rights to the FF?

    • @TheGreatDanish
      @TheGreatDanish 9 років тому +1

      +Cameron McEwen Like i said, keep Marvel from making a buck off it with out forcing them to give Fox a cut. After all, they bombed with the Amazing Spider Man and instead of selling Spidey back to marvel, they just let marvel buy an appearance for Civil War. So this is probably what's going to happen with the Fantastic Four. A deal to let Fox keep the rights, they sit on the rights again until 2022 (they need to release a movie with the fantastic 4 title in 7 years.) when they make another bomb of a movie so Marvel doesn't get the rights.
      This is exactly whats happened before. They made a bomb of a movie in 2007, waited till 2014 to start making a new one and released this pile of shit this year. They obviously think losing money is better than Marvel making money.

    As much hatred there was going into this movie, I tried to remain optimistic. It doesn't help that my favorite villain is Dr. Doom. This is one of the worst positions Fox's is in. I'd argue much worse than X-men origins. Because, with Origins, they were able to salvage themselves with First Class, The Wolverine and Days of Future Past.
    Two already mediocre movies(plus one that wasn't released, Corman) didn't make this task easy. But when this recent movie trumps all others and is one of the worst reviewed comic book movies(in a time where comic book movies are actually being well-received) that's horrible. Given the toxicity associated with the name now, I honestly see Fox trying to reboot this series(whether full or soft) being a major uphill battle.
    And considering they can't even cross over with the X-men(it's due to the contracts Fox has not having a clause and in turn it would require Marvel's permission), the one logical decision is to cut their looses and sell/make a deal with marvel. I'd argue for the latter. At least Spider-man has various intrinsic properties that allow Sony to hold some ownership(as the toxicity for Spider-man in theory will erode).
    Fox can't even claim that as the other two Fantastic Four movies sucked and this new one bombed horribly.

      The X-MEN are alot more value than the Fantastic Four, and Fantastic Four movie bombed and they have to make it.

    Here's something I don't understand about people who fail to adapt comics:
    If you wouldn't completely alter the source material from a Novel, you shouldn't try to do that for a comic book film. Obviously some changes are going to be made, but to completely change everything that made people like the source material in the first place is just asking for trouble.

    • @keikurono192
      @keikurono192 9 років тому +7

      Gabriel Abboud That is actually possible to do. Since in comics different writers and artists come in all the time and do their version of the characters and stories.The difference here is this has been done so piss poorly it completely negates trying to do something different and interesting.

    • @lethostormcrow3142
      @lethostormcrow3142 9 років тому +1

      Gabriel Abboud The thing that makes it worse is that these changes in Fant4Static were not made for practical reasons, they were made deliberately to fuck with the fanbase and to cause controversy.

    • @Liquidcadmus
      @Liquidcadmus 8 років тому +1

      +Gabriel Abboud it's alright to make the necessary adjustments in order to fit current culture and the movie format itself. however the problem is that all these dumbass producers don't care about the source material and they are making "adjustments' based on current trends or things that made other movies sell. which ends up creating an aberration like fant4stic

    Here is my hypothesis, because we need to test hypotheses to determine blame- this is a key point that I'll get to in a second. I speculate that the studio and producers kept pushing the director for more footage of the building of the dimension machine. They did this either knowingly or unknowingly to cut costs. I speculate that the studio sold Trank on letting him pursue his vision and then pressuring the movie to be basically a one-set low-budget minimalist drama. Trank finally broke, my theory goes, and then the studio had to make the large amount of footage releasable. So, they used the overdone laboratory setting and tacked on a climax. This is why they are using unproven directors so that they can manipulate them and then hang the blame around their necks when they can't fight for their film effectively. What this implies is things like that Dr. Doom was not necessarily "ruined" but just was not allowed to attain what the director imagined him to be by the end of the film. By analogy, what if Two Face's scenes ended in The Dark Knight by killing the Joker when he handed him the revolver in the hospital? He would be "ruined," but it would not be the director's fault if the studio forced the film to end abruptly.

      Thanos Titan There was apparently alcohol involved too, we have heard since doing the recording. According to 4Chan where the story seemingly originates from, she was drunk and high, and had an "accident" in front of Trank. He laughed his ass off, but she was frightfully embarrassed and wanted him to shut up about it because of her image and for gods sake, stop laughing! The story goes then goes that he laughed even louder, and more intensly. Then she started to cry, and complained to her management that he was "unprofessional" and "abusive".

    I looked up Josh Trank on IMDB to see what he had done that qualified him to do a movie of this level and budget. I found nothing. He had done nothing. He is about a half step above a second year film school student. Why did they tap him to make this movie? To whom is he connected that enabled his advance past the creative film makers that could have made a great movie? I love movies, although I have never liked the fantastkkkkkk four and their untoward sexual tension between Reed and Johnny, but I don't ask.

    Based on what I've heard and seen it seems as though Trank is a child with emotional problems particularly from his apparent twitter rant about his childhood growing up as a fat kid and the premise of Chronicles movie. I think he still sees himself as the bullied kid who lashes out, the same can be said of Doom, Reed and Dr. Doom they are all transparent manifestation of his own personality. I think he also has a definite problem with authority and with working with other people. I think as a director he has potential however as someone who can work within the industry I think is where this movie proved he is incapable of if what is said about him is true because who would want to hire him? who would want to work for him? nobody. This movie has relegated him to low budget indie films which is probably what he should stick to.

    Great video, you should do a postmortem vid like this for Ghostbusters 2016 after that inevitably bombs this summer! Andre was right on the money with his casting choices of Jon Hamm as Mr. Fantastic and Mads Mikklesen as Doctor Doom. It's unlikely moviegoers will go for a fourth go-round for Fantastic Four at the box office, but I think if Marvel Studios gets the film rights back or works out a deal with Fox, they should first test the waters with an FF Netflix series to see if the demand is there for more Fantastic Four, and that's a success; then go ahead with yet another movie.

Born in a fascist situation, with a mother who knows limited Magic, doom learns basic spell-work ( like as seen in doctor strange's training montage) before he leaves his homeland, before he meets any other Marvel character. His mother makes a deal and is taken (to hell) by Mephisto. Only when he exhausts the options presented in his mother's spell book, and it is not nearly enough to help him reach nor free his mother from the demon's grasp. he begins to study technology and use magic with tech to get results that can only be achieved by the combination. they could do a whole movie that happens before Victor goes to college. The mask comes in the second movie.
    Third movie, he answers a call, a magical challenge, to determine the next sorcerer supreme. you know the story, he helps Stephen Strange win, and asks for help to free his mother.

    The X-MEN characters they should get: Wolverine, Marvel Girl, Cyclops, Deadpool, Ajax, Storm, Mystique, Iceman, Nightcrawler, Apocalyspe, Magneto, Mr.Sinister, Sabertooth, Lady Deathstrike, Rogue, Professor X, Pyro, and Beast, Silver Samurai and Agent Zero

    I'm guessing that Constantin Film could work with Marvel Studios on an F4 movie set in the MCU.

    It's interesting to look at the history of superhero films... Rise of the Silver Surfer was one of three major comic book movies to come out in 2007, the others being Spider-Man 3 and Ghost Rider. It was also one year after X-Men 3. Had Marvel not taken control of the production of Iron Man and instead let another studio produce the film, not only would the movie have likely crashed and burned under studio mishandling, but DC would have crushed them completely with The Dark Knight. Forget ever seeing Guardians of the Galaxy in that dark timeline...

    This is true but also wrong in the sense that while the Prometheus characters were specialists in a certain field.

    The problem with this movie was the same problem with all fox and sony "marvel" movies, they don't give a shit about the source material, don't respect the characters, the story or the fans / movie goers. they try to apply trendy formulas to the movie in matter and think people will just eat it up.
    I didnt like the Xmen or the ff films. the only passable xmen film was first class, and even with that movie I have a lot of issues.
    The irony is that making a ff or xmen movie that people would love is EASY, all you have to do is read the comics and be faithful to them. and even use stories or scenes from the comics. its so simple. being faithful to the source material.
    whats the point of making a ff movie if the end result is something that has NOTHING to do with FF? this movie was just a random boring sci fi film, not a FF film.

      You're not going to get a Director's Cut. Trank's cut was never completed, and they are not going to spend millions on bringing him back and getting his cut into releasable state, as that would be flushing those millions down the drain, they'd never get a return on them.
      Rights are another matter, though.

    But as for Marvel regaining F4 it would be a HUGE event in yerms of the MCU. Many fans speculate that their previous attempt to regain Galactus & The Surfer were for intoducing the next villain after Thanos. We are about to get Thor Ragnarok. Ragnarok as we know is the end of all things. Having had a brief cameo in Guardians its believed we'll see the coming of The Celestials in Ragnarok to judge all life in our universe. However there 'would' have been an element that even the Godly Celestials feared.. The destroyer of worlds, Galactus. It would be awrsome and there is still time however Fox would need to sit down with Marvel and thrash out a deal. F4 WONT make Fox money any longer so it seems the only viable alternative is to sell. I can only hope..

    Dropping Jon Hamm into the MCU seems discordant. I can't really imagine him showing up in blue spandex and fitting in with the rest of their lineup. Reed Richards is one of the best characters that Marvel has, at least in my opinion. He's smarter than Bruce Banner and Tony Stark and he can transform his body in any number of ways that would be needed. I'm racking my brain to think of an appropriate actor but I'm just not that up to date with Hollywood. If Tom Cruise was a couple feet taller and not a lunatic it might work. I'm sure there's someone out there who would make a perfect fit, I'm just not the person to think of it. Anyway, the really good news is that Noah Hawley is doing a standalone Doctor Doom movie. If you don't know who Mr. Hawley is, he is the brainchild behind the Fargo and Legion TV shows. He's an amazing director who fills his work with a Kubrick/Hitchcock level of detail to salivate over upon multiple rewatchings. Doom is like Mister Fantastic in that he is best of the best. He's like Magneto mixed with Albert Einstein. The best evil genius villain who could actually carry his own movie penned by someone with an incredible track record. They have my money.

    In the end, it seems like Fant4stic will long term benefit everyone. It appears it led to Marvel getting Fantastic 4 back, and the ousting of antagonistic Fox execs and replace them with executives who, at the VERY least, won't chop their own faces off just to slightly inconvenience rival studios. Which, is much better then it making cash and continuing the rotten status quo that was Fox's marvel properties before this.

    Glad to see there are others like you M'Edge guys who are of the same line of thinking as myself. But yea I agree with pretty much all you guys say in the vid. Fox have made F4 brand utterly toxic. They are so clueless that they have managed it with long established properties at their disposal such as Alien & Predator. AvP was a great idea HORRIBLY executed and Prometheus was a beautifully shot mess. People like John Davies at Fox are the cancer in these issues. Fox have a dead property now. Any reboot or sequel will be met with automatically with backlash & negaitivy. Its in their best interests to use F4 as a trade for Xmen tv rights as Xmen short term is a lost cause. However we know how Fox toxify properties so I can already see Xmen dissolving into mediocrity with the Wolverine films and the horrible DOFP.

    Wouldn't "Marvel movies proper" have been a better term? Did this page make a video(s) on the troubled production of Catwoman? I'm surprised there's no explanation behind Doom's look in these videos. Interestingly enough, Trank's cut was loved by Toby Kebbell. Heh, blame Trank for The Thing. Have these guys listened to the Kevin Smith podcasts with Josh Trank? To say there's nothing of the Ultimates comics in Fant4stic is to outright lie. There might not be much, but there's still stuff present. The quartet not being a team, being a dysfunctional family, that was definitely Trank. To be fair, those tech guys were drunk. Sue not being present at Planet Zero does help to explain why her powers manifested the way they did. Technically, Fox did ask for a Fantastic Four movie. Are those statements on the X-Men TV rights accurate? I don't see how Marvel would have approved of Legion. Actually, Doom is ultimately a anti-villain and a well-intentioned extremist. Darth Vader is a straight-up villain in Episode IV; Episode V makes him an anti-villain giving more of a moral code. There is a review/reconstruction trailer that a UA-cam user, spideyfan2002 made. Here's hoping they're successful. Apparently,If these videos have proved one thing it's that there's need to be a study done on how well indie directors transition to big features.

    I'm starting to wonder if Josh Trank deliberately nullified and destroyed Kate Maras' character just to spite her because he couldn't get his own way with the casting. I very much doubt that Sue Storm would have been as colorless (no pun intended) and written as lifelessly dry as she was in this if he had gotten his own way with who played her.
    I think he de-characterized Sue Storm just to throw his toys out of the pram because he couldn't get his own way with her. In typical sociopathic fashion if he can't get his own way with something then he'd rather piss on it and destroy it rather than allow someone else's idea to have a chance to work.
