I disagree on the stitching. Stitching front to back means you can be certain you're placing your stitch in the right place on the side where it will be seen. The back is not important since it's hidden. Both ways to stitch are "natural."
Both are hidden! She was just saying to stitch from back to front because that felt most comfortable for her. The stitch is hidden if you stitch it well. A poor stitch will be more visible on the front, but you are stitching right sides together just like with sewing on a machine, so the stitches are hidden on both sides in theory
