I can do my best. I've been listening to this song a lot lately, and I believe the title "sticks" is replacing "The River Styx", the river of death. With the lyrics, this means the person wants to escape humanity (the 'new world shit') but the only way to do that is do either run into the wild (sticks) or die (Styx). Either way, it's an end to that person.
I believe the video simply shows that, even if humans left the world, someone else would inherit their sins in the relics left behind.
That is actually a very interesting analysis of how the lyrics are tied to the animation. I applaud your ability to come up with a reasonable explanation.
I'm 9 years late but holy shit this is the best interpretation of this song's lyrics I've read so far‼️and it perfectly explains what's happening in the video

the animator is Chad VanGaalen. he writes music (or he did a few years back) and animated his own videos as well. this is pretty normal for him. i think it goes great with Mother Mother's style, and DEFINITELY goes great with this song :)

basically but the animation is more disturbing so maybe its supposed to represent the darker side of isolation, that everyone else might as well be dead as far as you're concerned
I am posititive this video means somthing more than a (jokey video) someone find out.
I think it might try to reflect how life is in rural areas, the sticks. Things are slow, weird, and dead out here.

Actually, it is on par with the song. The song is sort of allegorical for getting away from societal constructs, and in this video the "creatures in the woods" find the remains of society, adapt to it, and fall to it (interesting to note that coffee has become an icon of societal contructs; what used to be a virtually free item has in the last 20 years turned into an expensive status symbol).

"The Sticks" is just slang for outside the city - like deep in the woods. He's talking about getting away from everybody and going to the woods.
It's so similar to Bit By Bit but they're both so different and great. But I see what they did there... With the heart to break, a book to read, and going out into the sticks to get away from it all...
