So if we go off BITR review history of the previous NB SC Elite V3, when the V5 comes out they will say, "yeah... we really didn't like the V4 but the V5, this is a great update, we love it, and green light".
You’re not wrong. On several occasions we find out in the review of the current version what was bad about the last version… I totally get being charitable in reviews when you need to keep the free shoes coming but pretending you were honest about the shoe the first time is just insulting to the audience. Just keep pretending you liked the old shoe!?!
I don’t remember them singing praises for the v3. I have the v2 and there’s no mechanical advantage I can tell, there’s no propulsion or explosiveness from the plate. It sounds like they improved it but not enough to justify buying it. NB race shoes just ain’t it
@jp05598 go back and watch the video. I double checked my memory. They loved it in the video (until later robbie wrote about his falling apart in a published written review)
Bought these. My first carbon plated shoe. Ran a half over the weekend and took 8 minutes off my time from the same race I ran last. These shoes are incredible. I feel like I am cheating wearing them...
Big story is the new foam in the SC line. If using same midsole in this model for new rebel 4 and SC pacer and trainer that could be huge. New balance has offered wider options, I stick with them for that reason but better midsole across the SC line is huge.
Mine will be at my house today. Gonna do 16 miles in them in the morning to see qhat they feel like. I PRed in October my Half in the elite 3's by 5 minutes. Was planning a 1:37 but ended up going 1:34. I honestly prefer the elite 3's over my endorphin pro 3's and metaspeed edge+. I hoping I'll love the elite 4's just as much as I do the elite 3's and the Sc trainer V2. Nothing like training in a 10 ounce trainer that doesnt feel 10 ounces and then tossing on a very similar 8 ounce racing shoe on race day. You gotta love where NB is going with this fuelcell line
Loved the upper on V3 and it's my favorite treadmill shoe of all time..as always I change to older Saucony insoles..they cure almost all issues with all shoes, especially if arches are the problem..happy birthday 🎉
Love the colorway and look of the shoe. Lacing system too. Simple, practical and effective. The huge drawback if you intend to use it for a marathon is the weight. You might not feel it if you are just cruising along but if you are trying to set a PB that is when it becomes a huge factor. That is one heavy race day shoe! Glad NB went with PEBA and hopefully, like Saucony they can gradually improve their midsole compound and reduce some weight. Until then, I'll pass on this one. Maybe as a training option if it gets hugely discounted on Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales in November. Shame as I had my expectations very high for this shoe.
I suspect most super elite like Emily Sisson will use new sc pacer which has more foam now but is light still. For someone like me that will not set any records I suspect this is ok for marathon distance. I would buy if could find on sale.
The all white prototype looks amazing, the color they are releasing stinks. I hate most of the colors they use but i love the comfort their race day shoes provide.
Good review. Of all the factors mentioned: midsole, weight, outsole grip, upper update, etc., the weight is the one I care the least about. I’m willing to carry around a few more grams for a lively shoe that rides right. And I think y’all were saying pretty much the same. I certainly don’t *need* any more supershoes, but I think I’m probably gonna be forking over the 💵 for these.
I love the shoes 90% and I actually could remove all my orthotics because the midsole was that cushy, and it almost replaced my superblasts with its versatility, BUT, it’s got cons: shoe laces short, not for people who want to heel lock. Foam is so soft it made me pronate a bit. But the biggest problem was midsole being soft, the arch support where it cups upward toward the sides, pushes up on the insole and the edges of the insoles gave me huge blisters near the front of my arches. I tried taping the edges of the insoles down with some moleskin, used some double sided tape too, and it’s helped a lot, and I can still use it like that, but it’s a huge negative. Will wait on the trainers - maybe they will fix the cupping effect that pushes up the insoles and caused the blisters. Idk. It could’ve been the best shoes ever but the arches sticking up on the sides exacerbated by the soft midsole foam and giving blisters is its downfall. Have slightly wide feet and that probably contributed to it as well.
Great video, thanks! Would really love a between two shoes NB SC Elite v4 vs. Hoka Cielo X1 and also your take on which ones better for heavier runners (~195-200 lbs) with a wider forefoot in a 3:00 to 3:30h marathon range 🙂
Now I'm torn.... Rebel v4 or Boston 12 as my next daily... Been using the SC Trainer v1 for the last year (4 pairs) and now i need a new daily... Already have the Prime X Strung for long runs and faster paces, the Takumi Sen for workouts and Pro 3 as race day...
Dang, I was really interested in these, but 9.3oz in men's US 10.5 is a bit disappointing. That's two full ounces more than Vaporfly 3s in the same size, it's even heavier than Superblasts...
I just bought these as my first pair of plated shoes since I have wide feet and have never been able to wear a pair without my feet being shredded. I know you typically save these for race day only. But how many miles do you think you can put in these before needing new ones. I have my marathon in October where I’ll be wearing these and then have some other races planned going into next year.
I am looking at these shoes to run the London marathon next year. This will be my 2nd marathon and being a bigger runner (17st) Do you think adding in the comfort, stability and cushioning at the expense of extra 'pop' and aggression is a good idea? Worried that my Adios Pro 3 or Metaspeed Edge Paris might be too aggressive and ruin my ankles over the distance. Hope you guys can help?
Because of your guys I’ve got enough shoes that would probably last me beyond this year. This will be a great candidate for next year’s HM when they go on sale at the end of the year. 👍 👍
So finally got ‘em. My first and because of my width probably last super shoe 😂😂 my thoughts (coming from a guy who will wear these here and there for fun weighing 300 pounds at 6 foot 😮😮) extremely light (though they aren’t the lightest super shoe - extremely light compared to other shoes) I agree with the tongue. It’s not the greatest thing ever. The laces feel a bit weird but again - super shoe. Quite a wide roomy shoe. I take a US13 in wide sizes. I maybe could have gotten a 12. Fairly roomy. Considering I can’t barely even squeeze my foot into Alphafly’s etc. I assume the regular would be too narrow but yeah wide sorta shoe. The sole - not as soft as my rebel v3 but holy shit it’s bouncy feeling. Again maybe not as much when compared to other super shoe but wow. Really impressive feel from the sole. Good fit roomy light look amazing - not real complaints. Very happy to have them. Will definitely enjoy them. For reference I wear a 2e width in the 1080v13 and I dare say I have more room (for my foot anyway) in these than the 1080’s so I mean it when I say roomy
I'm in a lot of doubt about which one to buy: NB elite v4 or Hoka Rocket X2. I was wearing the Elite V3, but it gave me pain in the sole of my foot, right where theres the rubber on the exposed carbon plate.
Would either work for speed walking or half jog at a good pace for a little then walk some . Trying to get back to where I. was in December before total knee replacement surgery or should I go with new balance more v4 or 1080v13. Or other suggestions. I need them to be under 8mm , preferably 4 to 5 mm drop
Not sure why, but it felt like you all were doing your absolute best to be positive about the shoe but you really weren’t that excited about it. 😂 “Tongue is weird…Race didn’t go well but I wouldn’t blame it on the shoe…Shoe is kinda heavy for a race shoe…Love the color…I’m sure it’ll be great for someone out there…Wasn’t as bad as the last version…WE GIVE IT THE GREEN LIGHT!” 😄 Love the channel. Just couldn’t help but laugh at this one.
@@jimoconnor8597 no doubt but I missed the Proto's release and I'm not willing to pay extras to reseller. Next AF3 colour release will be too late for my next marathon. That's why I was looking forward for this release (and Puma Fast-R 2) in february. Also the new from Puma is heavier than expected.
NB took a step in the wrong direction weight wise. Race day "super shoe" ,the last thing u want is a heavy shoe. At the price point these will come in at,experience runners will not opt for this shoe
The problem with this shoe is that the upper always detached from the midsole. I had the same problem with version 2 and then the version 3. Not only me but some running friends have that issue as well. Think its about time NB really look into this and get it solve else there'll be more customer shifting to other running brand. I'm running with Endo Pro 3 now and its awesome! Great review btw.
So if we go off BITR review history of the previous NB SC Elite V3, when the V5 comes out they will say, "yeah... we really didn't like the V4 but the V5, this is a great update, we love it, and green light".

This is the year for the fast v4: SC Elite v4, Endorphin Speed 4, Endorphin Pro 4, Adios Pro 4, Hyperion Elite v4. All viable race day shoes.
That is one nice looking shoe! Kudos to the NB design team for this and the upcoming SC Trainer v2.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Bought these. My first carbon plated shoe. Ran a half over the weekend and took 8 minutes off my time from the same race I ran last. These shoes are incredible. I feel like I am cheating wearing them...

The elite v2 was the best trainer! Over 2000km in mine and the foam still feels the same as the backup new pair I have in a box.

In the video, e.g. in 2:08 it looks like a heel lock is being used and there is plenty of lace left?
It sounds like you’re describing v.2, not this new version 3 which hasn’t been released yet….?
Bought the shoes for the looks. Nice enough ride and stable, though i prefer propulsion on hoka cielo x1

I’m getting a pair tomorrow!

Can the Elite v4 be recommend as a supertrainer, or will it not hold up for 250-400 miles?
you will have the SC Trainer v3 for that....

Happy Birthday Meg! Hopefully you don't actually get "double tapped"! Unless that's your thing. 😂
happy birthday megan!!! :D
In terms of speed AND comfort, Elite V4 or Rocket X2?
Comfort NB, speed Rocket x2
I’ve seen some people compare this to the Superblast 2. Is that accurate?
Happy Birthday Megan! 🎉🎂
They didn't talk about the fit ????? What's the fit for wide feet ????? Please can anyone answer me
Hi guys, are you able to review shoes that could be used for racewalking?
How many miles would these be good for?

It looks so good
So what was the foam previously, because I definitely thought they were PEBAX since well V1 of this.
Would these shoes be too much for 5k runs? I just started getting into running again after a few years off.
Is it more cushiony then the Hoka Bondi 8?
Like to Meaghan and Thomas. Have a great monday.
happy birthday!!!!!!!

Is the jumper/ sweatshirt Thomas is wearing available to buy? Went on the website but couldn't see it, only really seen t-shirts and racing vests.
Sold out

Hi! Just got myself a pair of NB SC Elite V4, would you be able to tell me the approximate lifespan of these? Sending ❤❤❤ from Manila Philippines 🇵🇭 😊
I have a pair of RC Elite V2 and find them a good shoe across all paces but not a great shoe, how would you compare the V4 to the new Alphafly 3?
The New Balance is much heavier, wider, and softer.

OK, happy birthday!

What is the lifespan of these?
For racing or training. You could probably squeeze a couple marathons out of them. For training they hold up well.

Not sure why new balance don't just put the rebel v3 upper on these shoes. It's the most comfortable upper on any shoe imo.
