My first Rebel was the v.3 & I’m still loving using it. I really like the FuelCell feel & lightweight nature. I plan to get at least 300-350 miles in it.
I just ran 25.50kms 3 hours ago with ease in this rebel V4 with the exact same colorway. Responsive tempo shoe. Bought it last December 2023 and did some break-ins via treadmill 30 second intervals for two weeks before using it on the road this morning. My size is 41EU and in my case its true to size. My experience with the rebel V4 today made me decide to also get the SC Elite V4 racing shoe which is coming next week as part of my rotation. By the way, im from Bacoor City Philippines.
@@giffarmasabih8108 Good energy return. I normally run 22km only on Sundays but in this shoe i don't know if ii just gpt carried away with the responsive and firm ride.but i got to 25.5km without much effort or leg fatigue post run that ypu would expect from suddenly ncreasing your weekly mileage. Im just an average 155lb recreational runner running 20km to 22kms.once a week for a little over a year.
I loved the V3, one of my favorite daily/tempo shoes. I never tried the previous iterations, so I wasn't biased one way or another in that respect. Hope to like the new version.
Agreed, hope the new foam is good. Liked the old one personally was excited to hear peba foam but not sure about Eva blend, probably more durable or maybe just less expensive and less durable time will tell.
Interesting that you compared it to the Novablast 4, which is a max cushioned daily trainer. I always thought the Rebel was a lightweight non plated shoe more like the Adios or Hyperion. This extra cushion must really change the character of the shoe.
Still have rebel V-1 and use them as walker without any laces..absolutely love that kind of uppers..I run in rebel V-2 and V3 almost every day mixed in with elite V1,V2,V3 and fuel cell trainer V-1..I stocked up on fuel cell shoes so with 15-18 prs I can get thru until the next cycle..I still keep my eyes open in my travels for those shoes that work with my mechanics and get them, usually at a discount 😊😊
Thanks for bringing up foam compression at the end of the review! I know you guys have lots of shoes to review which makes it tough to put it high mileage on a single pair… but most people are going to buy only one or two shoes and use them until they’re done. I’ve had lots of shoes that felt fantastic for the first 100 miles and then went quickly downhill before even getting to 300. If there is any way to do some high-mileage reviews on some of the more popular shoes, I think that would be super valuable feedback from you guys! Awesome review. I was a huge fan of the v2 Rebel and this one looks really tempting!
Well said on the mileage. Lots of reviews seem to stop at 100 miles or earlier that is like 3 -4 weeks for many runners , 99% of us want to know if it will make it at least 3 months feeling good. Lots of shoes feel compressed an d lose resilience in foam after a month of running . Would be awesome to know if that is an issue .
The OG FuelCell Rebel is the shoe that changed everything for me. The first time I ran in it I understood why people got excited about running shoes. Now they’ve got so many miles in them, they’re trashed and I’ve never been able to get that same feeling from a shoe again.
The Rebel v2 nostalgia is real! I still put it on and am re-reminded how fun it is to run in, just it doesn't go super far: maybe 15k/10mile max comfortably for me. If the v4 keeps the fun factor and can even go a bit longer then that's a compelling shoe.
I have the rebel v3 and love them 2 pair in and both went to 5 hundred miles on them. Amazing shoe from 1 to 500 always felt the same. But it could be also due to the fact that I’m 5/6 145lbs and weigh and size do play a factor on how the shoe performs for you.
Excited about giving this version a try. Only worried a bit about the outside of the heal collar as the last generation of SC line and even the More v4 had heal collars that rubbed the heck out of my ankle bone. Hoping that doesn't happen with these. Super stoked about the weight as well. I also love the v.2 and tolerated the v.3. Thanks!
i used the v2 for running when i was thinner, but still use it for walking/shopping casual wear. the v4 looks like i'm going to be running in a rebel again
How come you guys never talk about shoe shape? Feels like it's only mentioned when you're reviewing Altra or Topo, occasionally you might mention width, but all these brands have different shape Lasts they build on. I tend to find Adidas are more pointy than most, irrespective of width - for instance. Love the videos and podcast, just wish there was some shape talk!
Just based on stats I was expecting this to be akin to the Topo Cyclone 2 (which has 28mm/23mm stack, 6.9oz in Men's 9, no plate). How does the Rebel v4 ride compare? Could you use both shoes similarly or does the Rebel v4 have more pace versatility?
I only have the V3 and I I like them I pick them up for 50 bucks brand new and I even bought him a half size down because that’s all that was available and I am also 200 pounds and they work great as a daily for me but that’s just me
What about the length of the shoe, rebel used to be a slightly shorter shoe and i normally size up half a size...is this version the same? Great review btw 👍
All I would like to know is if this new NB midsole is as buttery as the Rebel V2 or the SC Elite V3. They become sticky because they are so soft, prioritizing comfort too much and losing a lot in performance. From what I have noticed in the reviews, including this one, the problem continues. Unfortunately, NB is no longer an option for me until they have shoes that are at least a little firmer again. Running feeling like you're in quicksand is definitely not for me!
Tried them on in store yesterday. Disappointed. As a Hoka Mach 5 and now 6 lover, I’m accustom to wider toe boxes. I also have the NB Rebel V3 and enjoy them. The NB Rebel V4 is way too wide up front. My toes were sliding back and forth by almost 1/2” both sides. Love the looks, extremely lightweight, loved the lockdown. Hated the toe box. Personally.
Used to love the rebel. Had 3 pairs of the v2 and all three ripped where the upper meets the midsole. I’m 135 lbs and they all tore in less than 100 miles. Never bought agian.
As always fantastic video! I've seen this one a few times and still can't decide between the Rebel V4 and the SC Trainer V3? Wich one do you think is better for a "new runner" (10K in onver 1 hour and 20 minutes)? I really apreciate you opinion Thank you so much in advance; and, sorry for my English: I'm still learning Have a Productive and Healthy day!
The Rebel line has been my favorite do everything shoe since the first version came out. I do have concerns that New Balance is getting too far away from the original formula of the Rebel with the added stack, and the v4 looks pretty wide/chonky in these videos. However, I've been waiting patiently for the new version to come out with my v3s falling apart, and I can't wait to get these in hand!
Thank you. Also, I liked your point about how spoiled some of us are about having specific shoes for specific workouts. In the 70's and 80's, you had trainers, racing flats, and spikes. So, other than track intervals/reps, all workouts, whether hard, medium, or easy, were done in trainers. And almost nobody had different trainers for different purposes - I didn't start doing that until the mid-80's, and even then only to rotate for injury prevention.
Nova blast 4 is amazing! I just won on action bronson rebal V4 for over $200 total......but it's a limited drop. Hope it fits well, or I'll just sell it.
Does the drop feel similar to prior Rebels? Reason I ask is because the 1080v13 aggravates my Achilles which never happened to me with prior 1080s or Rebels.
Man I miss the V2, ran 10 ks, HM, track workouts, everything in it. Got the London Marathon colorway aswell, I was almost genuinely sad when I noticed a tear in the upper and subsequently had to throw it away :/
The stack height and the midsole compression most likely will not help much after 30K as compared to Novablast 3 or 4 unless you got a strong leg, I think half marathon is what the shoes shine most at max.
Can anyone tell me how this shoe is compared to the 880? It looks so much more comfortable and lighter, but will it feel too “minimalist” compared to the 880 as far as cushion and support? I know it’s a neutral shoe as is the 880, but I mean will it be more of a step down from the 880. Thanks.
I'm thinking of getting either this or the Novablast 4, wanted to know your thoughts on the difference between the 2, especially the feel under foot. Which has a softer landing, which has more bounce, which is wider...etc.
I Ioved v2 and v3. I could do long run and tempo runs. It's a do everything shoe for me. I really hope this version can still do it all. It looks amazing, but I'd rather have a butt ugly shoe that performs great. Looking forward to trying this shoe out
NB introducing the PEBA blends. I'm curious 99%EVA1%PEBA = PEBA blend. Haaa! Great marketing. Adidas are pulling the same marketing trick in their Supernova Rise. It's like buying an Orange Drink vs Orange Juice. One is a watered down version. The other is the real deal.
@@simonrunc8067 nice. How many miles did you get out of your first pair? I only have about 15 on mine but will wear them more frequently since i love the bounce
Rebel v2 is my favourite shoe of all time
oh, I really feel this comment in my soul!! is there any shoe since with a feel like that shoe?
Same, I've got two pairs, and I almost always go try something new
Love the history of the line, would love to see this for more reviews in the future. 👍
I agree, it was a really nice introduction to the review as a whole.
My first Rebel was the v.3 & I’m still loving using it. I really like the FuelCell feel & lightweight nature. I plan to get at least 300-350 miles in it.
new balance bringing the wide feet love. thanks
I'm looking at both those at the moment but two months later they are like gold dust trying to get hold of either in my size!

The V2 helped me fall in love with running again. It was the best for almost any kind of daily run. So zippy. Looking forward to the 4.

I haven't watched your channel in a while but the "new" handheld camera footage you've started doing is a nice addition to your static camera 👍

Excellent description. Like to Meaghan and Thomas. A nice weekend for everyone.
I bought the X wide and finally found my shoes after Sketchers. I tried every model of Hoka and Nike all returned. I will keep an eye more on NB
Telsa Truck midsole geometry (6:28) 😂 haven't tried these yet but may try version 4.

I am really enjoying my New Balances, great comforts and even nice looking now
So excited for the SC trainer v3, it looks insane!!!! More cush Meaghan more kush!!!
Meaghan reminds me of a former work colleague: similar sense of humour and very clever. Good times.
Look like my Bostons without the 3 stripes. I'm loving the Bostons.

Got this in wide, have been loving it
Curious if the sizing is still the same from past iterations? Copping soon
How does the Novablast 4 compare to the Rebel v4 in width as you two mentioned that they were both on the wider side?
The Rebel line has been my favorite do everything shoe since the first version came out. I do have concerns that New Balance is getting too far away from the original formula of the Rebel with the added stack, and the v4 looks pretty wide/chonky in these videos. However, I've been waiting patiently for the new version to come out with my v3s falling apart, and I can't wait to get these in hand!
Interesting how stack height can be visually deceiving. I would have guessed 35-37 stack in the heel
I recall Thomas really liked the Cielo Road; the Rebel v4 strikes me as similar in weight and stack (and function). Which does he prefer?
This shoe is more versatile. The CR is a little more giddy up.
Thank you. Also, I liked your point about how spoiled some of us are about having specific shoes for specific workouts. In the 70's and 80's, you had trainers, racing flats, and spikes. Puma Velocity Nitro v3 ❤❤❤
Loved that you explained the difference in fuel cell. Is this formulation similar to that in the propel?
No. It’s new to the line.
Is it good for walking or standing long?
Does the drop feel similar to prior Rebels? Reason I ask is because the 1080v13 aggravates my Achilles which never happened to me with prior 1080s or Rebels.
Yes and no. Lower drop feel. More under the forefoot.
I’m a mid 30 yr old runner looking for a good shoe for 5k/10k would you recommend this shoe for that?
Quick question. You get to pick one shoe for every run (caveat: never more than 10 miles at a time) what would you take? 1080v13 or rebel v4?
Man I miss the V2, ran 10 ks, HM, track workouts, everything in it. Got the London Marathon colorway aswell, I was almost genuinely sad when I noticed a tear in the upper and subsequently had to throw it away :/
Any other color variations except the blue that NB has shared with you ? Can't wait for a 100 mi review. Thanks team.
Boy do I agree with you on the v.3. I loathed that edition.
When do they drop
The Rebel v2 is like the Peg Turbo. The more years go by the better it gets, then you put it on...
Fact
i kinda want to see how would this compare to the Superblast?
Thanks for the review! Thomas, do you think you would consider going down half a size next time? Or thick socks and cinching the laces the way to go?
Length was correct ✅ so no going down.
Thomas, do you think the foam compression might benefit from a shoe rotation so that the midsole could recover?
Nah, just breaks in.
Is it going to be any good for first marathon? Plannng 4h😊
The stack height and the midsole compression most likely will not help much after 30K as compared to Novablast 3 or 4 unless you got a strong leg, I think half marathon is what the shoes shine most at max.

does this shoe have the same hill collar as the SC elite v4 ?? just wondering the v4 gave me horrible blisters.
novablast 4 or rebel v4?
So, this would be the shoe to get instead of 1080v13 when renewing my v12?
Just depends on what you want. The 1080 is more plush and specific to daily miles. The Rv4 is a light weight shoe aimed at performance.
Stack heights are getting way too high. I just want a low, light and comfortable shoe.
Go for the Puma Liberate Nitro then 👍
Oh boy, I thought to wait until this summer with the SC pacer or supercomp trainer...🤔
Which is the theme at the end of the video?
Any plans on Jarret doing a wide foot review for those of us who need a wide and X-wide shoe?
Wide Rebel coming up
when is this released?
Liked the v3 however I noticed I “bottom it out” on my speed workout so I tend to use it as a tempo run these days
Got to lace them up and see
