I appreciate you posting this video. I was having the same issue on a ’96. Right after it turned 100M miles it started giving me bad readings on total mileage. After removing board from the cluster and building up the solder contacts and smoothing them down with an emery board it works like a charm. Total time was less than 2 hours of work and this saved me big bucks not having to replace the unit. THANKS

On '93s theres a little box with 3? pins on it that makes the reminder bonging sound its up under the dashboard on the left of the column in the little relay/plug electrical panel you can just pull it out and theres no more bongbongbonging

Its all right. Its certainly not the cleanest example with its miles. This thing has small dents allover it, but who cares, It runs! A good fix for the odo is to solder wires directly to each contact. Or a 94-6 Z28 gauge cluster swap.
I've got a 1996 Caprice Classic. The miles on display reads 40,000ml. The miles have not move at all. I drive it on the weekends but the miles don't move. So I have no idea how many miles I'm putting on my Caprice. How can I fix the problem.

hey i have the same exact caprice that you do its a retired cop car but i cant get the speedometer working at all!! it will stay just compleatly black, not even my turn signals are working. I replaced the battery yesterday so i know that wouldnt be the problem. the car been sitting for 3 yrs but its in excellent condition and ive worked on everything else. what would you reccomend that i do??
The board might have a bad contact on those pins. You could try cleaning the contacts with some rubbing alcohol. Also make sure none of the pins are depressed. Pull them back out with a small screw driver CAREFULLY.
Caprice? On these car the bottom row contacts power the speedo. when they get nasty they can cause the whole speedo not to light.
today mine just went to 37000 miles less than actual miles, flickers a little for a coupleminutes after startup, hten it's fine. had the speedo redone in 07 after digital number fading. did a great job but now it's doing this.
Is that the same for the 96 impala ss?

Did it ever say "ERROR"? or was it always just scrambled. my 94 caprice says ERROR, if it shows up at all. anyone know if just replacing it would fix it?
My digital display is really dim everything else works except that...do u know how to fix it?

Let me guess, yours says "888808" when it scrambles? My 95 1A2 wagon has been doing that since I got it. That screwed me out of watching it roll over to 200k :(
How did it hold up after the second go around?
I bet they intended to put screws there but got lazy like the guys we built my 94 RMW. There were no screws holding the armrests on (holes weren't even tapped) and the knee bolster behind the plastic wasn't installed, again the screw holes were painted and never tapped.
Cant take it out unless its in park. You need to move the shifter all the way down to 1 to get cluster access.
in my 94 Caprice, the speedo works whenever, the mileage doesnt even show at all, what do you think?

What is the code? I need to turn the light off and I planned to remove the bulb...
the bonging comes from a green box somewhere under the dash, you can open it and remove the metal disc inside that makes the bong noise and put the box back and no more bonging

How do I change it from Miles to KMH ( Brazilian here, I plan on buying a Caprice on the future and I am definitely worried to get some fine while driving because I thought I was doing 40 Miles instead of Kmh X3, speed limits here on normal streets are usually 40-60Km )

Would a simple Weller plugin soldering iron do the trick to just touch them up a bit without solder? I don't really want to buy a station becuause I cant see myself using it very often after this fix.

mines is 95, my speedometer always reads im going like 20-30 miles faster than im going and my right signal light is stuck on... it doesn't blink unless I actually turn it on, but it just stays on smh

I bought a caprice that sat for 8 years. all it needed was a new gas pump... guss what.. it only had 32000 miles on it when I got it.... sold it at 99990... it was a 1991 with the 5.7 350... she never let me down......

my damn digital dash comes on when it wants to. i did everything in this video and nothing lit back up. then, 3 days later the speedometer light came back on, 3 days later, went off again. i think ima just take it to someone and pay to get it fixed smh. does anyone know of a caprice website for parts? pretty popular car but i can't find a website for parts
If all the pins are popped out the the upper and lower contacts, I dunno it could be done. I hate these digital clusters. I should of kept the 96 SS cluster I had and made it work,. For parts, Its not a popular car anymore, Most were donked out and crushed by now. I see none in my area. best would be to go to a U pull type junkyard
My speedometer works fine as well as my left turn signalnd my battery voltage guage all the other 3 dont work any idea of wuts wrong

Yea true. As long as they run and drive good its good enough for me. Nothing is perfect! I still dig 88-98 trucks more than these cars though. I would like to own a 2 door 2WD tahoe.

You can't remove the gauge cluster or work on it with the shifter in park. You cant remove the keys unless its in park. Duhh

Cant the shifter has to be in Drive/ 1-2 with the key in it to work on it

I would just fix the Speedo, the A.C, detail the car and sell it.

Naww 800000 something. The 2nd time around it worked better. It will never be perfect, Its all in how much you SHOCK the gauge cluster bezel when you reinstall it.

TankSWP I soldered the contacts and cleaned them. That's SOP, Clean the contacts, put it back... I also see myself pulling up the contacts a little bit,
