They formed in 2014 as "Girls Rock Band Kakumei" or GRBK. They started out as a four piece with a second guitarist. I have seen her name as Laura or Rora. She left the band in late 2015. I have one video on my channel with all four and someone else mentioned the live video with all four. Nagisa, the current drummer is from the band Quince and brought on as support at first, but joined permanently after their first live concert together. Junna is currently doing session work with several other bands currently. She went out on tour with Fate Gear for their EU part of their last tour. Nagisa was a great choice as a replacement for Junna.
They formed in 2013 and played several shows that year. Laura/Rola played her last show Feb. 2016. It's not a well-known fact but they had a drummer before Junna. Her nickname was Kubo-chan-she left the band at the end of 2013. Trident's earliest fans saw her. I wasn't following the band then and never saw her.
@@ramair3judge Yeah, they came out of the high school's popular music club (as so many Japanese musicians do), and probably the 1st drummer was with them at that time. They were a copy band initially. In 2013 they played gigs as professionals in a limited number of clubs. There's very little info about those earliest days actually. I haven't read all the band's interviews, but in the three or four I've read they don't mention the 1st drummer. But she definitely existed, because Junna has said she saw the band perform in clubs before she joined them, and fans have said they saw the band play with the pre-Junna drummer at those earliest shows.
@@OtobokeGaijin6218 I wonder if they would mention or try to celebrate a 10th anniversary as performers. At least Asaka and Serina. Kind of like Saki of Nemophila did when she celebrated her own 10th anniversary. I don't think most people know they have been in it this long already. Nagisa is probably getting close to 10 years as well.
@@ramair3judge They will be on a short tour to plug the new album, but they don't seem to be making much deal of their 10th anniversary, unlike Band-Maid. (Trident and B-M formed about the same time, and they played on the club circuit together quite a few times some years ago.)
When I saw you were going to react to this, I thought, when will he notice? 😀 Lets say the antici....Pation, waiting for you to spot Junna.😀 It seems a shame the band didn't remain as we see them here. As you pointed out a rich full sound and you are left wanting to hear other material from Trident. I agree with your score adjustment.
Oh, a rare score increase during the review. Nice! 😀 That is indeed Junna on drums. She left the band in 2020 and the new drummer Nagisa joined instead. They changed their name around the same time. Although they were always a three-piece. (correction: they had four members between 2013 and 2016)
They had a guitarist-that is, a 4th member-from 2013 to her last gig with them in Feb. 2016. Name was ろーら (Laura, Lora, there are different English versions).
@@smb4903 Actually they had a drummer before Junna, who is remembered by the band's earliest fans, but she quit in late 2013 and as far as I know she is never mentioned.
I don't know if I agree, I think it's pretty even from my point of view, but I do know that I prefer the production on their older stuff. This earlier stuff is very produced as well, but my main gripe with their new stuff is that it's extremely overproduced, especially on the vocals and just the use of synths and electronica. The vocals nowadays are produced to the point that I am not convinced she is that good of a singer, it feels like they are just trying to cover up her vocals with crap (to be fair, I don't like electronic doubling of vocals). I love Spoopy though which is also highly produced, so it can work for me, but overall I like the production on their Girls Band Kakumei stuff over the Trident stuff. I own one of the Girls Band Kakumei EP's that they also rerecorded as Trident and have compared the 2 CD's before and to me the Girls Band Kakumei one sounds better (less fake). My favourites by them (over both bands) are probably Spoopy, Ambivalent and Voltage. So a little bit of every part of their career, but I am worried every time I hear a new track because they are basically shifting to that overly electronic sound a lot of Japanese bands are seemingly going to. It gets to the point that there is almost no real guitar/bass and drum sound left and it's a shame because all 3 of them (and Junna as well) are very talented musicians. They are a very weird band for me, I have so much stuf I don't like about their music but I keep getting their releases. I have a pre-order for their upcoming EP and the videos they posted have me very worried that I will only love 1 track with a couple of them that are just ok just like with the D-X EP.
Trident has a couple more MVs from the JUNNA era here on UA-cam-one is filmed on a beach and the other is filmed in a villa (antique furniture from what I remember). I love JUNNA. Used to wonder why she wasn’t in a group until BabyMetal w/Kami Band introduced me to the concept of ‘session musicians’. She is too good to fit in one group. Subscribed to her channel and social, but she doesn’t speak English.
its just fun to watch Junna taking away from the ground when the rest of the band remain on the earth, they are not on the same page, but I like anyways.
They changed their name to Trident when the drummer left. For a band who's popularity and identity was heavily reliant on the drummer Junna, it made sense to rebrand to a more internationally accessible name with the new drummer Nagisa.
Junna left and went independent. ASAKA is the singer. I was waiting for the review. Wondering if you would notice Junna. Sometimes you miss things. LOL
JUNNA era Trident ... right after the girls left high school. Although they used to go by the name Girls Rock Band Kakumei ... which frankly, was a terrible name. Nagisa is now the drummer and is a better "fit" for the overall band. JUNNA is spectacular and always will be. Recently she was a stand in for the drummer of FATEGEAR but I would love to see her find a home. I think the issue is she simply overpowers everyone. If all you can see is pigtails and drumsticks ... its JUNNA.
@@steviedee9826 I had the same observation ... but there are not any other songs in the TRiDENT catalog however, that are like VOLTAGE. JUNNA worked very hard to build her brand ... at the end of the day it was her name that put the band name on the map. I also acknowledge that the current lineup has maintained a high level of performance to keep it there.
Just in case you missed the other comments. That was indeed Junna on drums! 😁😁 Great score!

Junna with all that energy seems to raise the level of the bandmates.
Technically when this song released they were using their old name.
They rebranded as Trident after Junna left.
You need to pay attention to detail. Junna's name was on the drum kit.
Honestly the new Trident stuff is better but people request this one because of Junna.

JUNNA!!! 🤘Such a shame that she left the band. NAGISA is the new drummer.
Serina, ba, acts like a rhythm/lead guitar when required. This is one of the major reasons why they sound so full even live.
