  • I go through with detailed step by step of how to replace a bad ADS Suspension Pump which is also the power steering pump in a 1994 Mercedes R129 SL600 V12. Not a bad job - just took a long time due to waiting for parts!!! This is the long version - there is a short version that speeds through the boring parts if you just want to see the progress on getting this car back on the road!!! The part numbers for the hoses that I show as leaking in the video are: The one in my hand at 18:15 is called an Upper Return Hose and is part # 129-997-61-82. The other is part number 129-997-48-82. It is actually in the suspension part of the Mercedes parts diagrams...Hope this helps!!

Have you done an alternator on this car? Mine is bad and looks like I have to pull it out through the top by moving the air in the air pump and moving the reservoirs all the way.
Replaced the Voltage regulator didn’t fix the battery light
Car dies when I disconnect the negative

Hi Rich, my sl 600, 1994 does not change the ride height when you press the ADS button, which is to the left of the steering wheel and the lamp on the button does not light up like before. Where to start looking for a problem?

Does the tandem pump need to be primed when installing the new one? Great videos!

Yes it does! Make sure you fill it up a little bit by just pouring some of the power steering fluid into the pump and then turn the pump a few times with by hand with the pulley. The system will also need to be bled off which I think I go over in the video. Good luck!

Hey Rich, thank you for this video! My 97 S600 has leaky pump or maybe its one of the multiple hoses attached to it. So far I only removed the air filter housing and MAF. Everything is so jammed and tight down there. It's hard to tell what exactly is leaking. All I know is my PS tank is almost empty while hydraulic suspension fluid tank still has plenty of fluid. I'll have to figure out which lines can be faulty and which are not related to the issue. At this point even cleaning those lines looks close to impossible, because there's almost no room. I see lots of things should come out in order to remove the pump. I have facelifted car, thus it may be slightly different. I guess I'll need to spend more time inspecting each line, and if I'm lucky, I won't have to remove the pump...

Another quick question regarding that bolt with 2 gaskets: I don't understand if something is connected to that bolt or not? I watched this video few times and it seems it goes inside the pump, but not sure if anything is attached to it or not. At 20:36 you mentioned there are 6 lines in total, but I didn't see the 6th hose... At 12:04 you mentioned that bolt, but it's not clear what's going on down there...

    • @yolo-cars
      @yolo-cars 2 роки тому

Alright, I figured out what's going on with that bolt. There is another line attached to it from underneath. At this moment I'm not 100% sure but I think that only 2 lines out of 6 are covered with fluid and dirt - the rubber one that has weird shape and the one that has metal connector and is covered with some kind of insulation. So maybe one of them is leaking or something else. I need to further inspect that twisted rubber line since the same rubber line was in bad condition in your case. Or maybe just disconnect it and test for leaks...

@@yolo-cars please, did you find your leak?
I have the same leak on my 96 S600 and I was thinking of take off some parts to see where is the leak. Power steering reservoir empty, SLS is full, so leak must be on the power steering side of the hoses.
      Thank you very much.

    • @yolo-cars

@António Peres I didn't find it yet but I suspect one of the hoses. Unfortunately, you have to remove some items just to get there. Those old rubber hoses are not good anymore...

@@yolo-cars you are right. My car only has 69 000 kms and this leak started on Sunday, rubber hoses with more than 20 years are no good.
I will try to check the return hoses when I have time. I'm thinking of the return hoses because the oil drops to the ground in droplets when I turn the wheel, and everything looks clean on the engine. If it was the high pressure hoses, probably it would send oil everywhere and the mess would be immense, at least I think...
Another option is to send the car to the dealer by tow truck, but my car is in immaculate condition, I'm afraid to put it on a tow truck to start 😔
I'll give you some news when I find the leak.
Best regards and than you for your reply
