  • This brand new high power dual band DMR radio made specifically for amateurs is about to be released. In this video I take a brief look at the radio as it is right now. More features such as scanning and zones are still to be added in firmware updates. The power levels are 10W(8W on UHF)/5W/1W for high, medium, and low respectively.

    I asked Ailunce if they have any plans to make a colour code and timeslot promiscuous mode for this radio. They told me that if people would find it useful, then they might do. Nice teaser video :) Promiscuous mode for CC would be fantastic. The connect systems/bfdx CS580 does CC detect out of the box but alas is mono band. Looking forward to further videos on this radio.

    Great review there Ben, very nice radio crammed with plenty of handy features. I like the VFO alot, a welcome change compared to the MD-380 and other types of radios. Cheers for sharing.

    Looks promising, the MD380 turned out to be a decent working solution for Amateur Radio so I have no doubts this will as well; and I'm a Motorola guy who owns two MD380's and I'm not ashamed to admit it...

    Brilliant & really helpful videos , I was wondering if I can use this model for dpmr 446 ?.

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  4 роки тому

      No you cannot. There are few legal dPMR446 radios and they're all expensive. Also this radio does DMR not dPMR. They're different modes. You can't use any 5W radio on PMR446, they have to be 0.5W and have a fixed antenna. They also can't allow you to enter a frequency from the keypad I think.

    I'm intrigued...

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  6 років тому

      I noticed that too. It does seem that Chinese manufacturers often seem to copy the shapes of other, popular radios.

    • @matthewknowles7143
      @matthewknowles7143 6 років тому

      How does it compare in terms of form and function? Does it feel as beefy and durable as a 7550?
      Also, can you speak to the audio quality? I see it's available for pre-order now, and I'm seriously thinking about it, but there's not much differentiating literature on it.

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  6 років тому

      Probably not quite as strong as the DP4800 but not far off either. It does feel robust in the hand.
      I'll be making a video showing it listening to a repeater so just look out for that if you want to hear what it sounds like. I'm just waiting for them to improve the firmware right now, since it still has some bugs.

    I brought my new HD-1 to Myrtle beach as i noticed that repeaters in this area seem to be D* or DMR rather then YSF as seems more popular in New Jersey. . The HD-1 seems like a nice radio with one issue. The screen is completely unreadable -at least to me -in bright sunlight. My litttle yaesu is easy to read outdoors but no so much the HD-1

      Thanks for that I will....Im curently enjoying the GD77 with its latest firmware giving a VFO and user ID import facility. The bugs mostly ironed out now and is a great little number ,down side (takes forever to charge) about 5 hrs . Scan is very quick for a chinese radio in VFO which I like.I can programme this on the fly but need to programme a couple of ghost channels that just get re-Written rather than programming a new channel.

  • @AndyBrandt
    @AndyBrandt 6 років тому

    Thanks for this video. Have been waiting for this radio for a while. One Q - do you have the GPS version? I wonder what use there is for GPS in this radio (apart from probably displaying the coordinates).

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  6 років тому +1

      No the version I have is not GPS. I don't think having GPS on a radio is really very useful at all. I've never understood why people actually buy GPS versions. It is possible to send GPS data over the air in DMR but it's only really useful in the commercial world for tracking vehicles or resources. You wouldn't really want someone tracking your location all the time in amateur radio, or at least I know I wouldn't.

    • @AndyBrandt
      @AndyBrandt 6 років тому

      I have a Yaesu VX-8R, it has APRS support on board, you can use it to connect to the APRS network and if GPS is present (it was an optional external accessory back then) the radio would do exactly this - track & send your location to the APRS network. As far as I can tell the HD1 doesn't have APRS support so I wondered what the use of GPS might be.

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  6 років тому +1

      I think there are a few networks that support GPS data on DMR but I've never really looked into it so can't tell you much more than that

    • @radiosification

    • @jmacalino7197
      @jmacalino7197 6 років тому

      I figured that..... so basically if you are talking on a Cross Band Rpt for example just like any Baofeng Input 146.4444 Output is 446.4444 for example you can program the input and the output individually. So basically it doesn't have a crossband rpt built in. Thanks Sir !

    • @radiosification

      radiosification ah ok, thanks. Guessing not many amateur repeaters use it then...

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  6 років тому

      repeaters cannot use it. They already use both timeslots. DCDM is for simplex where you want to be able to use both timeslots on a channel. Normally with DMR simplex the timeslots are ignored, so only one person can talk.

    What exactly is promiscuous mode ?

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  6 років тому +3

      Good question. It means the radio does not require a certain parameter to be programmed for it to work. Usually promiscuous mode means that it can hear any group, without you needing to program in the groups you want to hear. But on this radio, there might be a colour code and timeslot promiscuous mode too in the future, so in that case it would not need you to program the timeslot, colour code or group. You would just be able to program the frequency in and hear everything on that frequency.

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  6 років тому +1

      I believe some repeaters only allow IDs in a valid range. You can't use a radio without any ID in so if you use it without programming one in, it'll probably be set to a default ID of 1. It's best to program the ID before using the radio and if you have an ID already then there is no reason not to just use it.

      So what are you trying to transmit on? You're not allowed to use amateur repeaters without a licence.

      I'm not sure if I want to publish my callsign on UA-cam at the moment but if you want to just try and make a contact off video anyway I should be free depending on the time. Have you got zello? my username on there is radiosification if you want to use it to let me know when you're on the air.

      I'm going to a flying club where people can fly model air craft helicopters and drones etc. as long no one else is there apart from me and my friend who's a member I should be able to play radio. if other people are there and have a model crash out I will get the blame.
      Do you no of any MD380 software for MAC??

    Why digital voice? It sounds horribel, why?

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  6 років тому +4

      Digital voice is the new most popular thing these days. There would not be much point in them just making another FM only radio, as there are literally hundreds of models of them already. And anyway if you don't like DMR then you don't have to use it. This radio does FM too.

      I’ve always get that way too. Digital sounds so robotic. However you get accustomed to it.

    This is a digital radio,right? When using the device how can you set it to transmit the voice in digital way or analog way? Or when you’re scanning the band it should find digital or analog transmissions?

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  2 роки тому +1

      Yes it's digital. DMR specifically. You set which mode to use. It cannot auto detect, so you have to select the right one. This radio is for amateur radio use though so if you don't have a licence, don't buy this radio. Look at licence free radios instead.
