Oil barrels...you could weld 3 or 4 together end-to-end, make a door with rubber seal, bury it and camo the entrance, and have a badass fallback hide/bunker. Dude, thanks for the idea!
Love Southernprepper1. All of you naysayers would do good to listen to this man. He's a treasure trove of valuable information. God Bless to David and his family.
I'm so happy that I can return back to modern day after the video. These senerio videos are great for preparing your mind set. I feel as if its happening right now when watching. I better enjoy having the ability to step into and step out, because their will come a time when I can't just end the video and step out.
I LIKE your "scenario vids". At first I thought they were corny but they have grown on me and they are a great way to impart knowlege and get folks thinking. I may (with all due credit to you) do an "homage vid" with a scenario.
I love your scenarios!!! You have a great mind!!!! I loved this. It has not even happened and I felt sorry for those other 11 families!!!! Thank you for all that you do!!! I have become a better prepared person because of you. Again, thank you!!!
Hi, I'm still reviewing your video's. Wow , who is this young man ? wow , 10 years ago. Jeezzzz , what was I doing 10 years ago ? I just bought my 2nd, 3 family house, and I lost my shirt on the collapse lol. I kind of wish I had some incite on the gloomy years to come back then.. Good for you, God Bless you. Keep posting info, thanks.
The scenario videos deal with getting your mind set involved in your prepping. Its easy to stock up on food and equipment but the purpose of these videos is a mind exercise. What would I do or my prepping group do in this situation. Do we have the skill set and supplies to face the scenario that Iam showing.
@urbansurvivor101 Yes I will. 5 gallon buckets are what I recommed because you can place them in your area especially if you have no real bug out retreat but just going to bug out to the woods. This will let you travel light but have a resupply.
What I'd give to be in a community like yours. I'm a lone wolf way deep in a blue state, unable to leave because of my son, I know lone wolf is no good, I'm fervently praying for like minded people by me
love this video. Love all of your scenario videos. I personally think that the scenario video genre is the best because its not a boring lecture but rather a first person educational video that is interessting. All of your videos are great but I was just talking about some preppers who upload super long videos with minimal content.
wish i lived closer to you or people like you.. your dedication is a rare gem. people in SE kansas just dont want to prepare, just live there everyday lives like 'normal'. ive had a hell of a time trying to organize.. hell, anything. thanks for your vids bud
Better to have it and not need it than the reverse. Some of these guys don't realize this is a practice of a number of species who hibernate in the winter -- distributed caches in case things go wrong. Most sods on this channel could learn a thing or two from the humble squirrel. Stay safe out there man!
Great vid!! We live in N. E. Pa. and we lost not only our home and my hubby's but also our camper that was our back up plan. We lost everything! this would have saved us then. our neighbors had no electric for 4 days and we stayed there for 2 days and then got a motel room till we could buy a new camper. No one was prepared. I know I learned my lesson and they did not. We were the exception and they need not worry. we will be working on this in a few days. thanks for the insight.
I was watching this vid thinking, "Wouldn't it just be better to go to the store and get some fresh bacon instead of canned stuff?" and then I realized this is a scenario. DOH! Good vid! Thanks for the great ideas Southernprepper. Now I have an idea of what to do with that oil tank I was going to scrap!
my grandfather lived during the depression, he said to protect his money (sliver coins only) he buried them in mason jars..then made a "treasure" map so he could go back and get it later..it kept his family off the bread lines and out of the soup kitchen.
Yes it works great to do this. We have done a few like this and the rubber material we use is very stick and no leak problems. Use bolts and pull the barrels together very tight.
Ha! People say I'm nuts sure you heard it before. It's 2021 and the "normals" are beginning to freak out.... well sir, you were right. I wish I had found you 11 years ago.
I have a photo of my grandfather's mother sitting on off the grid( there was no grid), sitting on the porch, with a butter churn, and a bowl. She was processing green beans. Where was great grandpa? Behind the mules in the field.. all day. Where are such people gone today. Life span? over 90. Family.. 9 sons. Today: family is memory, we seldom live near each other, and we are debt slaves...
I also have fuel fuel caches and pure ammo caches. I place my drums on the ground, 100 meters from the trail, under a tree, place branches over it, then camo net and more branches. All drums are painted olive drab. All drums are lined with a plastic liner. I rinse the drums with gas to remove the oil and then wash with hot water and soap. Then I use citric acid to kill the remaining odor. Since the ground is frozen 7 months a year, I never bury a cache. My friends and I do a few caches a month
I haven't done any of this yet, I'm still just a few weeks of food and water kind of guy, bud I enjoy watching these videos for ideas for when I actually have a little extra money to put towards more preps. In regards to the bucket stash, how you said just smash top because too much work digging up, maybe a crudely made wooden box made out of scrap wood that would contain the bucket? You could have a removable wood lid over box, no hinges, and be able to take entire bucket out, and later rebury if needed. Just an idea. Thanks for the video, you were so believable in what you were saying that I actually thought that this was real. I was scratching my head trying to figure out what part of our country got hit with a natural disaster.....so you done good.
You want some advice on becoming a prepper? Learn things.... Learn to grow food. Learn to use anything and everything to make something from nothing. Do not spend money to buy food, to store away, for the future that won't have grocery stores... What good is a year supply of food, if once that year of food is gone, you have no food left and no ability to get more? You want to learn to survive, go spend a month in the woods with just a knife and a water bottle. If you survive, you will survive when shit hits the fan. Should you not be standing on the fan, when the shit hit it.
@evankoeve Iam glad you brought that up. They have slightly larger ones that you could make a simple shelter out of. Warm in the winter and cool in the summer. A piece of screening in the summer keep the bugs out and a good sleeping bag in the winter and a good shelter. Find the right spot and do a good job on camoflauge and it has possiblities.
Did you ever do a follow up to this video showing how you prepared and buried this oil drum cache? that would make a great video. thanks for the great channel.
lol, i hear that. we have no television in the house, too much to do in garden etc... there is one in the garage and one up at the hunting camp. Both never turned on since we moved here. I'll bet they never do get turned on. I love your suggestion and I have sent your video to family members far away. They know to head my way if shtf, if they can make it. Its a hairy scary thing to wonder which preps might save a persons life and which lives are most important to save at times, even down to mine or anothers. I'll bet what drives some doesn't even compute to others ways of thinking. I think well rounded and planning for problems is appearing to be the one that would feel the most secure in who know's what in the world may happen out there/here... so much to do.... love your video
It's brilliant and permits you to restock and gives you a resupply point if you experience something unexpected that drives you out of your main shelter. I highly recommend these. If you think your shelter is going to get overrun you retreat through your alternate exit, resupply and now nobody knows better than you do how to make your own shelter so miserable you can drive the intruders out. One good counter strategy if you are undermanned is to smoke them out.
Having a "Community" complicated matters, a good dog , and blood relatives are better. Fewer mouths to feed, balanced with skills provided. Most modern Americans have no clue how to live out side of a city. They have forgotten the words of our grandparents. All work is honorable, save, don't sell your land, prepare..
I like that video, you don't see many "role play" type prepping vids on youtube, so thanks for that, you discussed some interesting points regarding 'community' and the beginings of kaos at the 75 day mark. Thanks again.
Nice vid, anytime you get a group of folks together, problems will arise. How you handle the problems will be measure on how sucessful your alliances will endure. Love the cache, cool idea! I hope you and yours enjoyed a Merry Christmas!!!
SP1 hope you and your family had a great Christmas thanks for all your wounderful vids keep up the great work thanks TF3 ps would love to see how you made your cache
@benloyd1970 please tell me you got more out of my video than the chance to give me a lesson in how to pronounce a words. I would be disappointed it you didnt.
Excellent distinction between group/community, every community/neighborhood has their problems & you'll have to deal with it sooner or later. That is a different way for a cache, easier access then burying it for long term. It was awesome it started snowing. Merry Christmas SP1. Oh, Latest issue of Backwoods Home magazine jan/feb 2011 shows how to 'can' your own bacon.
@Myrmecia Yes good point. If you where going to do this you would have a security team around you so the man running the metal detector can feel safe and just run the machine. Alot of my cache are plastic buckets but they have metal items in them so it would take a good one if its 12-18inch down. Iam not a expert on metal detectors how far down can they pick up metal?????
@cottonjeff the French word "cachet" is pronounced like "cash-ay" ... it is used to described something of particular quality, as in "it has a certain cachet". The word "cache" is pronounced like "cash", and it means a hidden store of something, or the place where you store it, or a temporary holding place for things. The two words are often confused because of the "e" in cache and the silent "t" in cachet.
@thelittlevoices47 I just look for used one in my area. Craiglist or pennysaver style papers. Iam looking at some plastic new ones right now they are bigger and you could use them as a shelter if you need to.
@MonkeyKing2378 Not yet....hopefully this fall I will get to it. Ive been very busy so hopefully when garden is done and grass does not grow anymore I can show you the steps.
Myself, I have a few things around that could maintain my family for about a month. I was starting to prep and it's as far as I got. I found that there really is no way you can prep for more than a year, just my opinion. You can have all the weapons and ammo you want, it might keep the stranger away from your stuff, but if it's police/military/government coming for you, you pretty much are dead. But you go down fighting. Prepping for hurricanes and earthquakes, issues where it will be possible to get an infrastructure back up and running is a great idea. Maybe a years worth of stored items will keep you covered until you get your own food growing, but again if we have government take over and we lose our properties, its not much good. It's costly and most of us can't prepare for 5 years or 10 years. And healthwise, you shouldn't live off of that freeze dried stuff for too long. But if you are prepped for SHTF, you're ok for a while. Not scoffing at preppers, they have great ideas, but good luck fighting off the government. But, without our freedom, liberty, and what not, we might as well die for it if it comes to that.
+chadlpnemt even the military would be fractured by soldiers leaving to see if loved one are still alive, deciding sides they prefer, etc you'd be surprised at how fractured the military can get.
I use 55 gal drums w/ removable lid with a locking ring they are watertight.I have oats,fruit,ammo,rifle,blankets,1staid,extreme cold weather bag, instant potatos, dried moose&bear meat, candles, matches, flairs, all kinds of other stuff. I cache along the rivers, mark on gps. Drum is too heavy to lift,so I bring in contents infour loads.Mark cache location along river on gps. cache is above highwater line.I never cache on my own land. Caches are not buried. This is part of everyday life in Alaska
@kmacfilms Look on craiglists or any free type adds. They are usually free when people replace oil furnace with gas or electiric. Just have to come pick up.
this is an older video but i jusst recently found your channel. you said its day 75 was yall running drills or was something happening in yalls neck of the woods?
@soapboxkid75 Lets just say Iam alittle slow on getting it done. I actually have made some progress on it ,its sitting next to the shop. Sorry its on the list to do.
@m855PENETRATOR Yes for sure on the shelter this one is larger enough to lay down with room for your ruck at either end. My choice of boots are the many pairs I have from Uncle Sam, ones that where issued to me. I think I have 8 pairs of good serviceable boots. So this is my choice there are better boots out there but these are what I have and they didnt cost me anything.
@NRAman123 no not at all....Its a mind exercise to work on what would I do if life as we know ceased to exist because of a collapse of all structure in the US. There are numerous scenario videos that build on themselves to work on mindset. Mindset, supplies and skills are 3 things you will need to survive a crisis.
@585michael yes you can. You have to tailor your prepping to your location and what you have to work with. What works for me might not work for you but there is things you can do to prep.
@RationalSurvivor I built my own house (very small so easy to heat and cool so low bills) and cleared alot of the trees and sawed them for lumber, dont have car payments and I live within my means. It has taken alot of time and effort but it does pay off to live without going into debt.
Someone give this guy an award, David you are truly a teacher and an inspiration. Thank you for all you do for preppers.
I just found this ten years later! Awesome! I've just started watching Dave the past couple months. He's great!
Count yourself lucky cause, you are far ahead of a lot of ppl,,good job bud,
Oil barrels...you could weld 3 or 4 together end-to-end, make a door with rubber seal, bury it and camo the entrance, and have a badass fallback hide/bunker. Dude, thanks for the idea!
Love Southernprepper1. All of you naysayers would do good to listen to this man. He's a treasure trove of valuable information. God Bless to David and his family.
+Shawn Neal Guy is totally on the ball and I rarely say that about any of the preppers I see on UA-cam.
You got a good wife Man. I don't know her but the way you talk about her, i can tell you really lover her good man..
This popped up. Thanks so much for all your years of education.
I'm so happy that I can return back to modern day after the video. These senerio videos are great for preparing your mind set. I feel as if its happening right now when watching. I better enjoy having the ability to step into and step out, because their will come a time when I can't just end the video and step out.
It's coming already and ppl just don't realize it yet.
this is a great idea, now I can finally put use to the drums that have been sitting around my shed forever..
I LIKE your "scenario vids". At first I thought they were corny but they have grown on me and they are a great way to impart knowlege and get folks thinking. I may (with all due credit to you) do an "homage vid" with a scenario.
I like them too. they put you in the moment and make you think. I always use a scenario when talking with non preppers. a lot have become preppers.
I love your scenarios!!! You have a great mind!!!! I loved this. It has not even happened and I felt sorry for those other 11 families!!!! Thank you for all that you do!!! I have become a better prepared person because of you. Again, thank you!!!
11 years ago!!!! I found the true prepper OG!!!! I found good in you sir!! And for that I appreciate you!
I wish I had families around here that were like minded AND sane...
Same
Me too!

May need to revisit this concept soon.
So, Now it is happening !! That's Very help to your family right now!! Great Work !!!
What a GREAT idea! I would've never thought of this. thank you for sharing this with us.

Lots of good info on this vid., I wish I could get off the grid and live out in the middle of nowhere.
These are very well done and much appreciated. More people need to see these. Thanks and keep up the great work.

A genius who seen well before many people what is yet to come. God bless you
Bacon and butter in a can is the apex of human technology.
@evankoeve Iam glad you brought that up. They have slightly larger ones that you could make a simple shelter out of. Warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Is this a Saturday night live skit? "Cause this is darn good, I'll tell ya!
wow i just realized you were on the national gerographic documentry.

Excellent drill! The reality could and probably be worse, but the drill will help all prepare and think things through. Great Video!
Where are you guys that you guys are needing to survive like this?? Awesome videos btw

i like you video, also i like the aspect of role playing up the end of the world! very good job!
@RDJim Yes totally dry its covered with tar also. The tarp you see keeps water from dripping down the front and coming in the door.
Smart! Thanks for the ideas.
I like that video, you don't see many "role play" type prepping vids on youtube, so thanks for that, you discussed some interesting points regarding 'community' and the beginings of kaos at the 75 day mark.
Thanks again.
Canned butter & bacon ... hmm ... gonna check that out. Never heard of that before. Thanx for that tip.
fuck you dude. my dad was killed by a can.
Red Feather butter. Can buy can bacon at walmart.
Nice vid, anytime you get a group of folks together, problems will arise. How you handle the problems will be measure on how sucessful your alliances will endure.
Love the cache, cool idea! I hope you and yours enjoyed a Merry Christmas!!!
SP1 hope you and your family had a great Christmas thanks for all your wounderful vids keep up the great work thanks TF3
ps would love to see how you made your cache
@Viewfromthewater NO not yet but its up by the shop and as soon as it gets warmer I will start getting another one ready to bury.
@dallas0101 no seal on the door that is why the tarp is on the front to keep water out.
Merry Christmas to you SouthernPrepper1... five years later!
Outstanding forethought! Thanks for sharing!
@southernprepper1
You really have given us some wonderful advice. We appreciate this. It may help save my family. God Bless.
So far this is my fav scenario video, I would love to see how you crafted this genious cashe.

If I personally new this guy, and the apocalypse comes, im coming to his house, 10 bucks says he would kick major ass..
@benloyd1970 please tell me you got more out of my video than the chance to give me a lesson in how to pronounce a words. I would be disappointed it you didnt.

This is what i was worried about. People / with metal detectors.
dam bro i felt like i was in a real life survival horror movie the way that you said that
as a prepper i appreciate this and its a better stockpile then i have but it doesnt look like its really that well camod. maybe from a distance?
@cottonjeff the French word "cachet" is pronounced like "cash-ay" ... it is used to described something of particular quality, as in "it has a certain cachet". @thelittlevoices47 I just look for used one in my area. Craiglist or pennysaver style papers. Iam looking at some plastic new ones right now they are bigger and you could use them as a shelter if you need to.
Wow this is a great idea!! Ty
Good stuff man. I'm glad I found and subbed your channel.

That’s really nice.
Dude your just pretty damn badass! Thanx and Great Video!
Oh yeah, Merry Christmas---MrSKSkill.

Stabil is not a long term fuel stabilizer. Check out PRI-G...for gasoline and PRI-D for diesel/kerosene much better.

So this is my choice there are better boots out there but these are what I have and they didnt cost me anything.
that is a cool idea. I have grease drums. They have lids instead and they also have a gasket on them. It would make the project a bit easier.
Use PVC pipe, camo paint it and hang it in an evergreen tree. Nobody hardly looks up unless they have good reason to.
Your vids are the best
Man I wish I lived next to you, that is an awesome idea!
