  • My brother offered up one of his tools for restoration making sure to add, " I'm going to get this back, Right?" as I left. Functionally the wrench didn't need to be restored...a solid great wrench...but sometimes that's exactly what you want to restore. I hope you like this one as it turned out pretty nice.

      Thanks Matt. I always go back and forth on finishes. Part of me would like to restore it 100% original to see what it must have looked like back in the day. And part of me wants to mod the heck out of it and see what I can do to it. This time....mod’in it won! I was pleased with the final colors.

    A super job!! Wish I had your skill and patience. From the few tool restorations i've done, I learned to leave no bare steel. It started rusting again in no time. So lately I would blue or black all those surfaces. Oiling the bued or blackened surfaces also seem to last longer than on bare steel.

    • @KILORESTORATION
      @KILORESTORATION  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Frank! You make a great point. The paint I used was ceramic impregnated...pretty tough stuff. But typically I use off-the-shelf Rust-oleum....not so tough. It’s really a matter of cost. But, 2K paint , as you said, or powder coating would take a beating way beyond what I’m using. As my channel grows it would be fun to do a project in 2K, wet sand it and wheel it out. Thanks for the comment!

    • @Frank-Thoresen
      @Frank-Thoresen 4 роки тому

      @@KILORESTORATION I would think powder coating is really efficient and cheaper than special paints.

    • @KILORESTORATION
      @KILORESTORATION  4 роки тому +1

      The ceramic paint was left from painting the brake calipers on my car. The plan is to go powder coating for sure. If I wasn’t trying to make videos of the processes I would go buy a $75 used oven and the $75 powder coating gun and be done with it… But because I video it… To get the proper impact for the viewer the oven should have a glass door which adds cost. So that’s more of a future wish list thing along with a sand blaster.

    • @Frank-Thoresen
      @Frank-Thoresen 4 роки тому

      @@KILORESTORATION I think that most of your present and future viewers would prefer to see that it's not needed to have expensive equipment for doing restorations. I would recommend you get the entry level equipment for powder coating to begin with.
