Great video, i've been an owner of a 2010 1.8 Civic for six years, and apart from the paintwork, everything else with it has been great. Thanks for the information, so if i ever want to trade in for another, i now know the good years.
@@terryarnold9154 Thanks 👍 Glad you enjoyed the video.
civic 2011 is by far best civic, all recalls from 2006 to 2010 was fixed and 2011 is basically the best version on 8th gen civic.
I like that logic 👍
2010 was a good year, 2006 was a bad year for cracked engine blocks.
2008 and above is fine
I plan on buying a civic im going to be 18 and im not sure what the ultimate best year for me is i just wanna use it for going out taking my girl places and my sisters from school and back home with me and just simple errands ill obviously care for it but whats the best one
Nah that will be 2012 remodeled and fixed all the issues from past models.
Just rolled 300k on our 2013 civic. Thanks for the cool video
Nice 👍 That Civic can go another 700k 💪💯
Very informative video...thanks bros
You’re welcome 👍💯
I like your videos . Keep making them regarding used reliable cheap cars.
Thanks bro 👍 I’ve got a lot of auto news and (shorts) auto repair quizzes coming up. But I can try and squeeze another cheap reliable car video in for you lol One key is to know that when shopping a good used car you don’t just shop the car … you shop the previous owner. Even a 09 Honda Civic can become a bad car if it has a bad previous owner. Ima make a video on a trick I use to screen previous owners 💯
Here’s your video - enjoy 👍 m.ua-cam.com/video/uADJ-f39pvE/v-deo.html

I agree 100% with this guy!. I work in a body shop and old Hondas and not just Hondas but some other car brands make unsafe cars and those civics are dead traps..
Yeah man … the time for small cars is over 🛠️ So how long have you been a body shop tech ?
Hey would you be interested in being a guest on a stream yard video where I discuss the safety of small cars? It would be great to have a body shop techs perspective 👍 Let me know if you’re interested.

The 1981 Civic Hatchback is such a classic, my first car and will always remember it
@@DMalltheway 1981 Wow - Classic. My mom had a 1985 Civic hatchback 🚗
@@MJ100k That’s great! Good times and memories.
1991 was the last year they were made in Japan. It was very easy to resell one of them.
my 2012 Civic EX Coupe has 137k miles on it, and it runs out great. I change the oil every 4500 miles with full synth, drive it SUPER gently, keep it in the garage, and run injector cleaner about every second or third tank of gas. I want to get a million miles out of her! I even slapped in new struts and shocks, so it handles much sportier now.
Nice 👍 I think you could get a million miles out of it. The only issue is… it takes ALOT of driving to make it to a million miles. The people that do- usually drive professionally…. Like 8 hours a day or more. So taxis, Uber drivers and Delivery drivers etc.
The million mile Tundra that I saw when I was at Toyota was a guy who delivered parts around the country for oil fields. So unless you are a professional driver you may not make it ……
But you could definitely make the car last 20-25 years or more. That’s an awesome feat in itself. By then it will be considered a classic. The one thing you have to worry about on any older car is rust. So make sure to have your car washed frequently (hopefully once a week) at a good professional car wash…. Then you’ll definitely make it ! 👍💯
Love your videos. I wonder if you have any on what small cargo van is more reliable. From what I learned, they will all (transit connect, NV 200, Pro Master) give issues after 100 and something k, as the 4 cylinders are not quite enough to carry heavy stuff day in and out. But I don't need a bigger one, and I need to stay in 10k :), if possible.
Thank you.. Wow for under 10k… anything is gonna have some issues lol I think the key is knowing what the issues might be and prepare for them. So you have to have something bigger than a traditional mini van ? (Ie Toyota Sienna, Chrysler Pacifica)
Don't be so fast...I've talked with past civic owners from 08,09,2010 with well over 250,000 miles and few issues,
is there a particular civic thats bigger than the others i driver an 05 elantra and i think i need a car with a bit bigger seats
Nothing comes to mind as far as seat size. I would suggest test driving a few different years and see which one feels the most comfortable to you.
Personally, I hated my 8th gen Si. The handling sucked and the seats were uncomfortable. I traded it for a 2000 Si and was much happier.
To each his own … Civic SI
8th gen civic has terrible paint issues, but awesome car
Yup 👍
I haven't even hit 60,000 km on my 2009 Civic coupe... 5 speed standard. Biggest issue with these car is the A/C compressor is garbage. My A/C stopping working a few years ago and my mechanic wants $1100 to fix it...Basically replace the whole system even though it is just the a/c compressor clutch that is the problem.
Mileage is low… But the age of the car is high. That’s a 15 year old vehicle at this point. Nothing last forever unfortunately 🤷♂️
Is a civic 2012 1.8 engine fine to be used 104k miles on it.
Yeap should be good. But focus on that particular Civic.
As with any car, make sure to have it inspected by a mechanic b4 you buy it.
Make sure the title is free and clear ie not rebuilt or salvage
Make sure to try and screen the previous owners maintenance history. I show you how to do that, for free, from your phone - in this video

What about a honda civic 2012? Is it reliable? Or would you recommend a 2016 to 2019?
I haven’t done a ton of research on these generations… But in general, the 2012s 1.8 liter engine is fine but if I had a choice I’d rather have a newer 2016-2019 2.0 liter engine… there is a 1.5 liter turbo engine you can get for those years as well, but I’d stick with the 2.0. Some 1.5 liters have oil dilution issues. I’d rather have a naturally aspirated engine. Less potential problems.
What ever year you decide on make sure to examine the car fax and have a mechanic go check out the car before you buy it. Here’s a video where I go over exactly how this is done.👍

Would you recommend me buying a 2015 Civic
No- Google 2015 Honda civic transmission issues.
Unless you wanna get a manual transmission.. Then it may be ok.
What do you think on a 2014 civic with 157k on it?
Sounds ok… But Many, many more questions need to be answered before you spend your hard earned $ on a used vehicle my friend. Check out this video I just made on how to shop for a used Mazda 3… The same procedure applies for any used vehicle: Let me know if you have any questions 👍

Don't forget the hybrid
The Civics I recommend in this video are pretty old… I don’t recommend getting any hybrid or EV that’s out of the original warranty. I’ll have to make a separate video for the newer (in warranty) hybrid Civics at some point though.
i miss my 1998 :(

@@MJ100k I hope so ! thank you for the video I'm going to get an r18 🤔
Is 2024 Honda civic any good?
Sure, they are good. There are two engines you can get. The 2.0 liter and the 1.5 liter turbo. I’d rather have the 2.0 liter. Whatever you chose, maintenance and driving habits will be critical. Since you’ll be under warranty, I’d get the oil changed at the dealer… every 5,000 miles.
I made a list of maintenance tips for next generation engines, in my video for the Honda CR-V. These tips will apply to the Civic as well. The tips are at minute 9:47. Here’s the link: Let me know if you have any questions. 👍

The 90’s Civic were the best
Why ?
@@MJ100k reliable, light weight, compact and fun drive.
@@Aldeeezzy The 1999 Civic is about 2 to 400 pounds lighter… But lighter is not gonna help you in a crash, in fact it hurts you. The 8th gen Civic is gonna be way safer than a 90s Civic in a crash.
They are both reliable. But the 8th gen has a timing chain… while those 90s Civics had timing belts you had to change. As far as being fun to drive …..IDK that’s subjective 🤷♂️
@@MJ100k Generally I try to avoid accidents but shit does happen.
I mean there's no way to really ask that question because each generation had so many engine and transmission choices! I own 2 8th gen civics one of them is a coupe and the other one is a sedan and my brother also had one before he sold it and all three of those cars have different engine series and sizes and three different types of transmissions! 1.3L L series with a CVT, 1.8L R series with a 5-speed automatic, and a 2.0L K series with a 6-speed manual!!!
1.8 liter is my pick. 1.3l hybrid … No, not dealing with a super old hybrid car. A new one yes.. but not this old. Also, for reliability I’d rather have the 1.8.. I don’t want an old SI 2.0 liter that some fast n furious wanna be has most likely been beating on and installing silly accessories. For Civic reliability- give me the 1.8 liter .. automatic or manual.
@@MJ100k no sir the r18 was one of the worst motors ever! You're better off with the K20, super reliable and really fun!
@@yaldrammuqadis Bro - There’s at least one known 1.8 that made it to one million miles … IDK if any 2.0 liter SIs with that high mileage…. Also- I just did a nation wide search of 2008-2012 Civics with the 1.8 liter on cargurus… there are 5 with over 300,000 miles… I did the same search for the 2.0 liter SI … only found 1 with barely over 200,000 and NONE at 300,000. I don’t care if the 2.0 liter is faster, I know it’s faster. I’m talking reliability. When you discuss old cars like this - you also have to factor in the previous owners most likely driving habits. The 2.0 liter is more likely to be beat on, crashed up, and have aftermarket accessories. That takes a toll. If you want reliability get the 1.8. If you want to race around and get someone’s beat on used car… get a 2 liter. 🤷♂️
8'th generation Hondas are definitely in avoid category. They have a risk of catastrophic engine failure which can cost you the price of the car.
The 8th gen Civic in the US includes 06-2011 model years
The engine block problem you’re referring to only affected SOME (not all) 2006-2008 (with a-few early production 2009 Civics)
There was a service bulletin issued by Honda to address this issue. Service Bulletin 10-048. The warranty was extended by 10 years with unlimited mileage.
1- This was a known issue that affected a limited number of engines. Not every engine or every year of the 8th gen was affected.
2- If the engine was affected, it’s likely that
the owner got the engine replaced under the extended warranty already. Which would give you an engine with less miles on it, if you were to purchase one of the vehicles repaired under warranty.
3- If you are concerned or looking at buying a used Civic you can call a dealership and give them the vin number. They can look up to see if that vin was affected by the service bulletin.
If it was affected and replaced then there is no worry.
If it was affected and not repaired… you can simply avoid buying that particular Civic. However; this issue is already about 5 years past the 10 year extended warranty… If this problem was gonna happen, it probably would’ve happened years ago.
4- If you want to see examples of high mileage Civics of this generation you can easily visit cargurus. com and do a nationwide search. You’ll see many examples of Civics between 200 and 300k miles. I just looked and one at 350k. There is also a known 1 million mile Civic from this generation.
But if you want to let an over 15 year old service bulletin, that extended the warranty by 10 years… that only even affected a limited amount of engines…. From a couple years of an entire generation of cars… that’s up to you 🤷♂️
Here is what the Bulletin says word by word below. With a direct link at the bottom:
On some 2006-08 and early production 2009 Civics, the engine (cylinder) block may leak engine coolant, resulting in engine overheating. To increase customer confidence, American Honda is extending the warranty of the engine block to 10 years from the original date of purchase, with no mileage limit.
