@triviumd13 Its called transposing. Most, if not all keyboards have this function, what it does basically is change the key without having to change the way you play it. For example, if you are playing a D with no transposition, transposing it 2 up or down will change the key of it a step up or down respectively. Every 1 transposition you go up is a half step.

Toumas realized that Anette's voice was not good enough for Nightwish. He realized that in Dark Passion Play tour but he did her best to give her a chance and work on her voice but Anette was not good for Nightwish. They continue with her and started having problems for other reasons. Toumas was not happy with her at all. She was not what he was looking for.. He thought in the beginning that she was the vocalist that he needed for the band but in the end he realized that she was not and regretted. So he fired her in the middle of Imaginareum tour. First reason was her vocals and attitude was not what he wanted for Nightwish . Of course he used better words to explain why they let her go. But it was to obvious. Anette is a good singer but not for Nightwish. I think like this and Nightwish think like that also so cheer for Nightwish and good luck for Anette and new career!
I never had heard or watched any Nightwish music or concert. The first thing I ever saw was the 2013 Wacken Germany concert with 82,000 concert goers. I only knew Floor Jansen at that time. Good God I look at these much older videos and I am sorry, but Floor Jansen blows the competition away. Absolutely love that concert, amazing music!
I agree about Anette not being a particularly good fit. It's painfully obvious, especially in this video, what she does with her voice. She's fairly flat across most of the verses and then adds this goofy vocal ending to some of her lines. It's very weird. I don't hear it on the album versions but it's super obvious, almost to the point of being distracting, here.
The thing was though that some of us die hard Nightwish fans said that she wasn't suited from the very first time we heard her. I still to this day cannot understand what possessed Toumas to hire her in the first place!! She has a good voice but it was never in a million years a "Nightwish" voice! I said she would only last two albums, took a LOT of flack on the Nightwish fan sites for doing so BUT was absolutely spot on. They now have arguably, the greatest female rock/metal singer there has ever been and are smack bang back on top form again.
PreyForForgiveness Anette is not a metal singer and has a very weak voice that does not fit Nightwish which is supposed to be epic therefore fan anger towards her is justified because it's unreal that she was even hired into a band.
@Levyathan94 Its not in the mic, its in the keyboards. Tuomas use it cos ppl used to say he looks like him, so he bought it and use on the keyboards. :)
She was never right for the band. She's not a bad person or bad singer for that matter, but she just didn't fit into the Nightwish music. No need to blast her or anything but it is the truth. Tarja set the standard and then became Anette. Her voice was not the right one for the songs and can clearly be seen in the live performances. Floor is a very versatile vocalist and I think the band improved a LOT when she came on board. Now of course, it's just my opinion since music is subjective
I think some poor choices were made in studio production. There is so much difference in the studio versions and live performances. Annettes vocals were so dialed back on the studio versions but she absolutely sails it live. I feel bad for folks who may not have gone to see them live because of what they heard on the album. Unfortunately it appears they are doing it again on their latest release in 2024. I can barely hear Floors voice in the first single...SMH..why bother to have these amazing lead vocalist if your going to dial down their mic & hide their talent behind backing tracks. This release is even worse because there is no supporting tour, but I have faith that as soon as we hear these songs live ..it will be all better!
Annette is just not that powerful.. i mean some songs on audio recording fits her beautifully but live she cant hit those notes.. made me wonder if they auto tuned her recordings..
She is not killing it in training session, a singer can't sing 100% at all time, so she "Save" her voice, if you want to see her performance live watch this: ua-cam.com/video/KZKUlUfEU08/v-deo.html
Ok since I was in love with Nightwish many years ago and then somehow I left the band after hearing some Anettes songs now im back when discovered Floor. And I pray to this woman and cry every time I hear her voice. Im in love again with the band and love to see em smiling so much with our Valkyrie on vocals BUT since Im back I gave snother shot to Anette. And i gotta admit, she can be poor on live sessions but fuck me, her 2 albums grown up in me so much, and I cannot stop listening to them. Afeter postprocessing she sounds on studio version just perfet for the songs she sings with Nightwish. As some1 here said her "disney" voice is perfect. So Floor is on level beyond this planet but Dark Passion play and Imaginaerum are fantastic
I was at a concert back in 2007, when Annette just started with NW. In some songs on the album I liked her voice (e.g. Sahara), in others not, but I definitely wanted to give her a chance. However, at the concert I was really disappointed. At a lot of passages she didn't sing anymore, but just screamed because her voice was unable to get through the power of the instruments. She just hasn't got the volume in her voice for the metal genre. It's enough for pop music, but not for metal. Tarja and Floor have this volume, Annette hasn't. And I don't understand why the band didn't see that in the beginning. They had a good chemistry with her, but damn that is not all that counts!
Anette "experimented "a lot with these live performances,i actually loved her style in both dark passion play and imaginaerum, but she just cant pull off songs that were made for singers like Tarja.Tarja is a classicaly trained singer and so is Floor so they can pull this off with ease. Also Anette seems to struggle with high notes such as f#5 live. However this is just my opinion i like all three Nw girls and their singing styles, however for live performances Floor just takes the cake for me!
It´s incredible how much Annette lacks stage presence, makes me wonder how on earth she was chosen to join Nightwish. Fortunately Floor showed up to perfectly fulfill this role, and even the whole group seems to be more connected and happy playing nowadays with her in the band.

Your opinion is stupid, Imaginaerum is so wonderful
@Lucifer Morningstar Yet dpp is their best selling album
Is she singing or Yodeling? My Hell! Long Live Floor!
I think she is kinda yodeling and it's amazing! is not a something easy to do with your voice, and actualy is very original in the metal industry
Oh shit, I was'nt far from them this day, I went to Helsinki for a trip !
Very nice.
Anette's clothes are nicer than last year :)
3:07 the look on the face says it all
+Hartmann That's the best comment!
get over yourselves, they parted with Tarja for their reasons. If they wanted her back, they very well could
PreyForForgiveness I am actually not really a fan of Tarja. Floor is the best fit for Nightwish.
+Gabrinjo that's cool. Floor is a better fit but still, you're making something over nothing over a facial expression that could mean many things.
PreyForForgiveness Anette is not a metal singer and has a very weak voice that does not fit Nightwish which is supposed to be epic therefore fan anger towards her is justified because it's unreal that she was even hired into a band.
For those who say that they don't look happy. It's not that, it's just basic finnish poker face.
Oh yeah I imagine Tuomas looking at me like that after he finished...
Can't wait until they come to Australia again
AWSOME AWSOME PERFORMANCE.
My wish: Blackmore play in Nightwish.
What a magical material could be! Holopainen is a fantastic composer. Both would mutually inspire each other.
@Levyathan94
Its not in the mic, its in the keyboards.
I'm going to see them the 14th March ! :D
to alll the people saying the sound sucks, this isn't a concert they are still getting the sound levels and such right for when it is a concert
The best NIghtwish's squad
Annette is just not that powerful.. i mean some songs on audio recording fits her beautifully but live she cant hit those notes.. made me wonder if they auto tuned her recordings..
No you just do a million takes and when you're alone with a mic that's all you focus on
She is not killing it in training session, a singer can't sing 100% at all time, so she "Save" her voice, if you want to see her performance live watch this:

Great musical analysis, thanks.
Hell yeah she did. Listen to the later versions of her singing Ever Dream. it sounds quite good
THIS ANNETES SONG !!!
is it just me or does Annette sound REALLY off here? :S
A bit flat with some notes
She was a bit in the beginning, wen she warmed up it was better
she's sucks
Soundcheck... normally the singers used to save their voices for tonight concerts.
That's what training sessions are for.
It´s incredible how much Annette lacks stage presence, makes me wonder how on earth she was chosen to join Nightwish. Fortunately Floor showed up to perfectly fulfill this role, and even the whole group seems to be more connected and happy playing nowadays with her in the band.

I love them so much
He sometimes does play the intro like that, at least he did at one of their gigs in Finland. Can't remember which one, but I've heard it live. :)
What happened to the nightwish statement in regards they would stop using pyro in order to become green?
I am 63, I grew up listening to the Beatles. They, however, knew very well that their musicianship was limited, excellent as they well. They could not compare to Nightwish as here.
