I'm not even the biggest fan of this band, but just objectively this is an exceptionally strong vocal performance and probably my favorite of the live versions I've heard of this song. No idea what people are unhappy about.

The only reason why people think Annette's version is better, is because Floor, bless her, slides up to the "one" in "caress the one", and the lack of daybreak scream. Floor does that, she wins.
Floor doesn't copy - she adapts songs to her own style... Part of what makes her so great.

@Fast Dunny Correction: Anette has the most suitable voice for the song for a obivous reason, it was made to fit her, but live??? floor sings it a lot better....at least technically speaking.

I think it's more of an issue with the microphone.
The crowd is clearly into it judging by how much movement there is.
Not to mention you can hardly hear Floor half the time, and I don't think that's an issue on her part.
If the microphone settings or the sound mix are off, that would explain both.

And again, compare this performance to others (even from the same tour in '15) and you can clearly hear that the
ead singer barely audible in this compared to other recordings. You can only hear her clearly when she's going at full power.
A properly set up mic should pick up her voice even at smaller decibel numbers, so that she can use some variety.
So there are definetly settings off there.
Not to mention: What is "like a mother giving baby food" even supposed to mean?
I've yet to see a mother feeding her baby like that.

It's called interacting with your fans, and making them feel like a part of the show.
I know the local bands in your area who can't draw more than a crowd of five at your nearest dive bar probably don't do it, but it is a common thing.

This new "version" with Floor turned a song that originally sounded like pop music into something that really feels like metal.
I'm sure Tuomas has the same opinion, this change had his and the other member's approval.
You notice they even added a longer "breakdown" at 2:40 which feels more like metal.
That breakdown is there since 2007 Anette's era. Grow up. Voice style doesn't make a song "metal" , It's the music. Go and check "The dark element"; Anette's new band; they are havier than Nightwish nowdays.

@@jnaringlangthasa1972 The genre of music are almost never defined by the texture of the voice, it is almost always defined by the instruments, the rhythms and chords. The reason they made this song more metal, is because that compliments Floors voice better, due to her not being super well versed in the quicker pop vocals that was Anettes expertise, it is pretty obvious.

I feel like this is the only song that doesn't work very well with Floor, and it is ok, It still sounds very good! I just really love Anette's voice in the song, a little hard to replace in this one.

Flor is fucking amazing.. She knows her vocals. Her voice gave a darker theme to this masterpiece and it's better than Annette's version imo.

About Annette singing it better, she does in studio, but her live versions are quite bad, not the quality of the video record, she just can't sing live her own songs.
Floor sings it like: "ok ok. gotta do this one. but it is so easy it is boring"XD I know amaranth isn't really easy to sing but for her probably is so easy and unchallenging that it is boring XD XD

Annete had more of a folk sound to her voice which this song requiers that's why Floor nor Tarja(TARJA IS ABSOLUTE BEST OF ALL THREE) can't sing this song.Floor is a great singer but Tarja made NIGHTWISH and no one can hold up to that.

not an awful singer, but the wrong singer. Think of it like this. If Freddie Mercury was the lead vocalist for Metallica would it sound good? no! but hes a good singer. IF Annette was strictly a rock vocalist I think shed do just fine, but symphonic metal is not her forte.
Annete sounds fine in Dark Element. And Floor in Northward.

Floor Jansen has a beautiful voice. Sadly it is lost here in an attempt to get the audience to sing. The audience could never approach what her voice is capable of. Try to get the audience to sing so you do not have to, is a cop out. I get that this is a live show and audience participation might be a thing, but, seriously, seriously? I want to hear Floor's version of Amaranth, not the audience's. Annette Olzon's version of this song is the one I will remember not Floor's.
