I'm so happy that he's going back to his roots and restarting the Newsted project. Not only that, but that he's actually playing Metallica songs! Here's to hoping he plays with Metallica in the upcoming future, because Creeping Death just isn't the same without him!

I used to headbang hard at every show I went to for over 20 years, but when I hit my 40s, I had to stop. I never injured myself, but I’ve had back issues and I knew it was only a matter of time if I didn’t pull back and acknowledge that I’m not 25 anymore. I just didn’t want to go through what guys like Newsted, Anselmo, Araya, Mustaine, Hetfield, etc went through with surgeries, pinched nerves, stenosis. I miss it but it’s not worth the risk. It seems like the older guys who can still bang (Angus Young, Kerry King, Scott Ian) are all short. Lower center of gravity?
Great statement brother, I'm w you on all that. On the rare once a year death metal show I get to I'm slowed and more fearful of the pit, etc. Fuckin Sucks.
Yeah, but Injuries happen, we recover - minimize the risk (by being in good shape, strength, cardio). 40s are fine, nothing like 20s, but what to do - Hetfield/Rob are pretty active on stage at 60. One leg squats, jumping, playing on knees, etc... Not bad. I would say all is worth it, not place for the fear, just little bit more careful :)

Robert can never ever match the intensity, dedication and skill of Newstand. Not a diss but the truth. His stage presence just kills the new guys stomping around the stage without conviction of Jason.
You are definitely right about his intensity. Jason always gives his all. But I think you're selling Rob short on his skill and dedication. He hasn't wavered at all since joining the band, and he is a phenomenal bass player.

He was always great when he got a chance to sing this. Yeah he does own it!!
And Creeping Death, too. He always sounded great on early Metallica material.
He has owned the song.
Well...no.

I got serious Lemmy vibes coming from this performance. This was intense!
