Janas nonchalantness kills me 😂
I laugh every time megan says “is that a Mennonite thing?” We all pretty much do the same things you do😂 I think spring cleaning is a world wide event. Well, I’m sure some don’t 😐
It's hard to know! We live in a very Mennonite-y area so it's hard to know what parts of our Lancaster County culture stems from the Mennonites.
You are right, is a famous thing but also countries that are on the Ecuador line don’t do this type of thing due is never spring there 😂, I learned about 'spring cleaning' once move to USA
@@ainhoac.237 oh yeah, good point!
We spring clean, and I'm in South Africa 🇿🇦 although now we're heading into Autumn and Winter
It would be fun to have Jayna pick out a capsule wardrobe for Megan and vice-versa. Try it for a couple of weeks and see how you did for each other.
Fun spring episode. I did no cleaning as I listened. I spring clean at my own pace and couldn't be more thankful for the tidy little rancher we downsized to. I make monthly goals and add them to my weekly planner. Yesterday, I had time to clean out and organize a closet in my targeted space. Works better for me and my schedule.
The calendar did use to start in march - the Romans added january and february and renamed a few months (july after julius caesar, august after augustus), which is why october has the prefix for 8th.
A conservative, modest capsule wardrobe rocks my world!
You two ladies are so funny together. I'm 74 but enjoy the program. Ive been following you Megan I think since you were pregnant with Fletcher. Thanks for sharing your lives with an "old lady"! Grammy from Texas
If I know someone’s coming bathroom is the highest priority, then kitchen but I can’t go to bed with dishes in the sink or the counters messy. I have five kids so the bathroom gets gross quick so I’m always wiping it down but do a deep clean at least once a week!
Hi ladies, you look so pretty in your spring dresses, Megan your pink dress really suites you. Love you both I love have a coffee and enjoy you chatting away. Hope the chicken is ok. My least favourite house work is windows too. Probably why I have a cleaner 🤣. In UK my mum use to spring clean but in fairness now we have vacuum cleaners, modern appliances I don’t think many people do spring cleaning xx
I'm in central Oklahoma & the thrift stores are getting expensive here, too. Inflation has impacted even thrift stores, however, I feel that the resalers who are posting on social media how much they profit from flipping thrift store finds are ruining thrifting for those of us who need to thrift to save money. The thrift stores seem to think they've underpriced stuff since the flippers are making so much money. I'm a single mom trying to clothe two teen daughters, so I do still thrift, but I'm more picky on what I buy. And we shop at TJ Maxx, Ross & even Wal-Mart to supplement what we can't thrift. The girls end up only wearing a few of their favorite outfits anyway. Thanks for another great podcast! God bless!!!
I have noticed that the flippers goto places and find stuff, then take them to Buffalo Exchange.
We have a fire bu rning as winter is 2 weeks away for us!! Greek way to use canned tomatoes...cook beans & chopped carrots with a can of tomatoes..garlic ..salt..and tspn sugar. Cook with lid on then simmer till tender with lid off till thick. Can also add potato. We eat them hot or cold..i use frozen beans
Y’all I do an annual garage sale and I made almost $800. And not on big ticket items. It’s like an art now lol we hang all clothes and wash/dry them beforehand. No wrinkles, no holes. It’s been great for us 🙂
Wow! Any other advice for a successful garage sale? Love the washing and drying - so simple and so effective
I’d have to say that wiping down items with a damp cloth, price everything so there’s no confusion, also I use jewelry tags that have the string and loop them over the top of the hanger. That way the price tag stays on the hanger. Gosh I could keep going lol
I agree! You have to make it look attractive and neat and you will make much more money than consignment
I also remember helping my mom rearrange furniture multiple times as a kid but I definitely fall more towards furniture finding a home and staying there forever 😂
Look up "bumblfoot" in chickens. 😊 Sounds like that was what your chicken may have had. It's very common here. ACV to the rescue!
Hugs and happy spring!
I looked that up. It didn't look anything like that
I always forget to clean the silverware drawer organizer. I know it needs cleaned but I never think about it.
I love these stories about "surgery" and "nesting way too early" and such.
We used to only have used furniture for the longest time in our home (or hand-me-downs from family members).
I don't think Jayna is as much of a maximilist as she says she is (since most don't get rid of anything ever). I love your conversations so much by the way.
Also, now I want to mop my kitchen floor. It needs it, and I love cleaning, but mopping is probably the chore I struggle most with! I love cleaning constantly, so the feeling of decluttering never passes for me haha. I enjoyed the "conspiracy" mentioned. Kinda makes sense in a way. Hope you are able to accomplish the things you want to do.
Im loving graphic tees currently!! Girly stuff with flowers or Christian stuff like your shirts you had on your fox sparrow.
Tshirts are way better than crew necks!!
But I also hate to spend more than $15 on a tshirt 😬
Eeeek a spring time video. Yes please!!! Here in the UK we are still having so much rain, we could really do with the spring sunshine! Thanks ladies, as always. Can't wait to watch later. God Bless xx
Always a fun listen ladies!
My mom always did spring cleaning and now so do I. I think it helps reset for spring.
Yes we spring clean in england uk,and hang washing out great listening to you both.
As someone who was just at the vet with their chicken yesterday, I feel you 😂
Lol we all spring clean 😂 especially in Canada because it was so dark all winter. Hello sunshine!
Thanks for the update! It's good to see you and hear that you are all doing well. I'm not on Instagram very much these days, so it's nice to hear from you here again! ❤
Yes spring cleaning and fall cleaning is something we do 😅
Hi girls! Yes you are girls to me because you could be the daughters I never had!! I just love listening to you both! I am right there with you Jana about thrifted items. I worked full time outside the home while raising my 2 sons and never had time to go to garage sales or thrift stores. I just watched for sales and bought inexpensive clothes for boys. I don't like the thought of putting something on that someone else wore and yes the prices at thrift stores are so expensive!! I am from the middle of Nebraska and 10 days ago we got 18 inches of snow so I am very excited for spring and all that comes with it!! As always thank you for sharing your conversation. I love the chicken story! God Bless! (ps: I'm the one that sent you the Dorothy Lynch salad dressing; hope you liked it.)
So happy another episode is out! I am one who loves to configure furniture along with spring cleaning! It's so refreshing especially as kids grow; today I put a desk under my son's loft bed for his art supplies and finally got the art drawers out of the kitchen! He's loving it and so am I! Also, graphic tees are a thing for me!! I love ones with a good message!
Jana you’re so funny! I agree with you on the prices at thrift stores and consignment shops. I do the same thing you do Jana.
Love these episodes!!! You both look so beautiful! 💖🙏💖🙏
Thank you for reminding me it's time to clean my ceiling lol... that's an every other year thing that I would have forgotten about had you not reminded me about spring cleaning!
hey y'all- love the chat! 😀😉Always enjoy hearing what you both have to say. 🥰 Wish we could hang out but I live so far away🙄in Oklahoma. Can't wait to see/hear more🥰 Y'all have a blessed day.
Hello Ladies;
Thank you for the spring into spring energy chat... soooo refreshing too...
As to the names on clothing and hats... my experience was, to say the least unsettling, therefore, I never put the names on the outside of any of the children's clothes or hats...
The last name on the hats is a novel idea and could work very well.
Take care both of you
All the best to you and your families...
Hugs
Linda in Canada

I really enjoy your videos. They are so sweet. You two are something else.
Children’s place, carters, and old navy has awesome deals. I agree target does sometimes too. Thrusting only works sometimes.
Love love Jana’s easy going attitude❣️. Structure has its place but too much can be paralyzing for some , especially after years of it.
I'm listening while cleaning our Airbnb cabin. Deep cleaning is what I do when needed. My mom was religious with fall and spring cleaning. Jana, you did the right thing for your chicken and as long as she's running about, she is okay.
Loved listening to you ladies while I made supper tonight! You mentioned thrift stores - there's a Community Aid near me and I've gotten a lot of very nice baby clothes and toddler clothes for SUPPER cheap over the years. The prices are already nice and then i try to go on the discount days during the week (Monday because I'm a health care worker or Wednesday which is family day) which then saves me even more money. I haven't been to any other Community Aid other than the Selinsgrove one, so I can't vouch for what the others are like, but I've found some wonderful and useful things there. Plus I'm pretty sure they actually wash any clothes that come there because all the clothes smell like Gain detergent (obviously I still wash them when they get home).
Hello! I hope all is well in Mennonite country! Spring has sprung! 🌱☀️
I was sewing while listening today!
Love it! Jayna I think you should teach your boys to mow your yard for you 😅 they would love it I’m sure!
Yes to merch!
Oh yes, I loved to move furniture when I deep cleaned. When I was younger I always did spring cleaning and fall cleaning and I’m not Mennonite.
Great video, i made your apple pie recipe and it was the best we ever had ! Making it for a cabin trip in April.
Megan please make new merch! I bought your shirts and crew neck on your website and LOVE them!💖
I think everyone talks about spring cleaning no matter their religion or culture ❤. And if you want to do merch, just do it!
March is the start of the colonial Quaker calendar, the Hebrew calendar starts in the fall
Hello ladies,
Spring cleaning yes, I love that start over season of life.
So, things that I always clean would be windows, end tables, making beds, bathrooms and laundry.
Things I don't like cleaning : mini blinds, curtains and fans.
So happy you guys are back to uploading these!! I could listen to an episode every single day if there were enough of them! But I know you ladies are too busy for that. 😅
So fun watching and listening to you ladies!!
I do go through my closet every season to see what I need or what I need to throw out.
I think you girls should do a live fashion show on Honey I’m Hommaker!! Would love that!
A fashion show would be fun!
I've heard that Julius Caesar added July after himself, and Augustus added August.
Actually the Lord did set forth that the beginning of the year started with the spring equinox
(Exodus, and maybe Leviticus speaks of this).
This makes total sense as you said in the video, everything in the earth is just "coming back to life"
--a fresh start. January first being in the dead of winter for the beginning of the year doesn't make sense at all.
Lovely convo as usual ladies.
Yes I want a shirt that says “Honey I’m homemaker”
Would definitely buy merch!
I'm still finding it worth my while to thrift! I enjoy it😊 At the local thrift store where I shop and volunteer at, most all children's clothes and shoes are $1; adult clothing and shoes are $2. Then, a certain tag is 1/2 price once per month and they have a $5 sack sale towards the end of the month. I know I'm extremely fortunate! We are selective in what we put out on the floor. The rejects go to...Guess where?! Goodwill!! Supposedly Goodwill recycles clothes and other items? (Our nearest Goodwill is 1 1/2 hour's drive away. Goodwill's prices are too high for me. Plus, the place is rather dirty, imo.)
Also, around a 40 minute drive from me are a number of consignment shops. I can't forget to mention that I live where it isn't as heavily populated as Lancaster County, PA!
I still love a good graphic tee!
Oh, yes, hanging clothes out in the winter! One of my chores was to hang the laundry and we did it all year. In New Hampshire! As long as it wasn't raining, it went out on the clothesline.
There needs to be homemaker awards like there is for the grammy's oscars etc. You will win!!
@@HoneyImHomemaker 😜
Yes, when it gets warmer I try to hang out most of our laundry as well. I was told if you hang clothes out in the winter or colder months they smell different is that true?
@@tinagraber7485 I'm not sure about the fragrance thing. I don't recall a difference, but that was when I was a kid back in the 1970s. I know the snow cleanses the air when it falls. I wonder if there is less fragrance than in the summer??
Very interesting. I may have to try hanging clothes in the winter.
I’m not Mennonite, but I”ve been washing down walls and my kitchen cabinets this morning 😀 Enjoy y’all so much!
So when I spring clean the way ive been taught, just picture a room being flipped upside-down and washed 😂
I normally prioritize cleaning the bathroom, but don't do lights often.
As for consignment or buying used clothing, i like it to buy unique pieces, but the prices are not great . I get so frustrated when i can pay the same price for new.
Jayna, I just keep my sourdough on the counter and feed it every one or two days. I use the discard every like four or five days to make pizza dough. I use about one cup of discard, 2 cups of flour, a teaspoon of salt, half a teaspoon of sugar, a tablespoon of olive oil, and a teaspoon of yeast bloomed in a half cup of hot water. I just knead it all together and let it sit on the counter for an hour or two. I still use the yeast because the sourdough discard isn’t fed, but you probably could get away without using the yeast since it’s just pizza dough you don’t need to rise very much. I just keep a jar of yeast in my fridge anyway so it’s easy. But the discard still gives it a nice chewy mildly sour flavor. it’s a hit with my family and I make it like I said about once a week or slightly more often! Easy dinner too
Okay, I prefer secondhand but for my kids I can usually buy new for cheaper than the consignment shops. However, Target Salvage stores are amazing because you can get the new stuff at a fraction with the tags still attached. I do really well for my kids with them.
Chutneys are also nice to make out of tomatoes or onions
I actually really like having 8-10 tops for each season and some grey and black leggings in a couple of different lengths to each season. Then I wear them for like 20 years. ☺
Yes, I used to love to thrift but no more. Just going straight to Target or someplace for in season colors seems to be my deal right now.
I’m near Atlanta and the thrift stores stink too, so I just haven’t been buying much which eventually turns into you have to throw out clothes because they have holes and then you have nothing haha. Everything I’ve gotten recently is from tj maxx, new but affordable haha
I need to check there again! Megan
I used to be able to go to thrift store near where I grow up and buy all my dance dresses for $1-3. And they were NICE! Well made brands and some were full on prom dresses(though I didn’t need anything that dressy I could have had a ball gown for $3). I haven’t seen prices like that in years which is Bummy given that I have two little girls who would love to have such a dress!
I am cracking up at the timestamp: “Jayne is a surgeon now…” 😂😂😂
We Spring Clean in the UK too. 😄
I hate thrifting too, I dont have the patience to look thru every single item and most of our local thrift shops are just trash. Yeah I can get something at Walmart for a couple dollars more and its brand new and the size and color I want!
There’s definitely a market for trendy colors and scripture t shirts.
As a Christian woman I dress modestly. Hello from the UK 💟
I just had our 4th baby February 10th and I’ve always went thrifting to find some “in between” clothes that i feel good in while I’m losing the weight & this time it was actually cheaper to do shein/Walmart/Poshmark etc because goodwill & similar places cost a couple dollars less than just buying full priced items- i was shocked! I was also sad for people who are less fortunate than us because i don’t know where they would be able to go to get clothes!
Just saying Jayna, you can mix your sourdough and then refrigerate the dough for a day or 2 till you have time to bake it. It's so flexible!
The problem is if let it rise at room temp all night, then get called to school last minute in the morning. Lol. Im still baking occasionally for now!
Guess what! You can put it in the fridge even if it sat out overnight! I use my starter once a week so definitely not a sourdough snob here either. But another option would be to shape the loaves in the morning before going to school (if you want to get up 5 min earlier) then pop them in the fridge for the day and bake them that eve or the next morning.
@@ginazimmerman9071 good suggestions. I think I just need more confidence over all at what i can do and what won't work. Thanks!
Yes! Just throw the dough in a Saran wrapped covered bowl in the fridge and deal with it when you get time. It will just be longer fermented and have all the extra gut benefits from that. I’ve learned it’s pretty flexible for sure!
I second this! You can pause things always by putting the dough in the fridge. You’ll still make good bread. Ooooor I just used sourdough discard and yeast the other day, I know it’s technically not a sourdough loaf at that point but maybe in this season, that’s how you use it.
Make the merch!!!!!
My Brazilian self does not understand the concept of bath 2 times a WEEK! We take showers here 2/3 times a DAY. I couldn’t do it.
Lol I had a Brazilian friend who told me about the shower 3x a day thing.
Lol I had a Brazilian friend who told me about that.
@@tikvahjoy your friend wasn’t lying hahaha We can’t understand not taking multiple showers a day.
Definitely not just a Lancaster county thing for the Thrifting problems. I live in Oregon on the other side of the states. So Thrifting and even garage sales, it’s just as bad here! There’s one thrift store around us that I know people used to love going to but the prices are ridiculous! My mom started selling online because she lost her job a year ago and hasn’t been able to get one even though she’s applied to millions. So this is like the only way she can get income. She talks about how rude these other sellers are she’ll go to like a estate sale and someone will literally push her out of the way to grab stuff that she’s literally looking at right in front of her on a table. And when she went and she noticed there was two salt shakers. One was four dollars that was cracked and the other was $13 when she went up to the front to ask about it they pulled up some app they were using. Realize that they are basing it off of online prices Kind of like eBay sellers, etc. She was pretty frustrated because it’s called a thrift store. And it’s not very thrifty anymore. They even had some stuff that you could buy brand new for the same price like a couple dollars more. I’m flabbergasted at how people are these days. Thrifting is no longer a fun Adventure!
Zero loads of laundry folded, but I did clear three fraud cases off my desk while listening!
I always clean dirty walls as I notice them, dirty knobs and handles, and the floor. I never clean my bedroom! But it's not because I don't want to- is it because it is also his office so every time I'm free to clean it, he's working!
I’d buy a “honey I’m homemaker”
sweatshirt!!! I love graphic shirts😅🙌
I'm totally a thrifter, I mostly love antiquey thrift stores, I've had so many amazing scores over the years and we also know where the best thrift stores are, like a pair of Carhartt work pants for my husband for 50 cents
I often say, I'm done! And then I find that one miraculous thing and I'm hooked all over again! -megan
My husband was just telling me about the calendar conspiracy. But you’re combining two ideas. October (8), November (9), December (10) isn’t a conspiracy. There used to be only 10 months. But July and August were added for Julius Caesar and Caesar Augustus. The conspiracy is that during the Middle Ages, there’s about 200 years of history missing that wasn’t recorded, so really the year now should be 2224. Who knows, but it’s fun to think about!
I became a minimalist about 3 years ago. I love a capsule wardrobe. I also love quality pieces but on a ministry budget I love thrifting what I can. It's hit or miss in thrift stores. Goodwill is awful now. They sell the good stuff on ebay now. But we have a Humane Society thrift store that's great. I recently got $100 jeans for $6 for example. But young boys pants... that's a no go for thrifting. They get holes in the knees way too quickly.
Jayna lover here if you have or can get blue kote it’s spray for and help prevent any infection. Good and I would have done the same thing
I would have helped you with 'the procedure.'😂. I grew up on a farm and was a vet tech in the Army. I was dubbed the chicken girl in the Army because of all the stuff you learn on a farm.
I’d wear a graphic tee ✌🏼 with jeans-mom uniform
I’m only a few minutes in but what I hate to clean and neglect far too long always is under the appliances. Especially the refrigerator. And it is honestly so nasty and should be cleaned more frequently but alas, I just don’t do it.
And to be even more honest, I dislike cleaning the filter on my washing machine also.🤢 It is disgusting and I don’t do it as often you are supposed to at all!
Maybe ur chicken 🐔 had bumble foot. I was laughing 😅so hard when u came out with that. You ladies are so funny.
I just googled bumble foot. It definitely wasn't that
IMHO I do not like graphic t-shirts for adults; for kids/teens it's great. Enjoy yours and Jana's chatter. You are lovely young women. God bless you and yours!
I am so glad I was eating raisins when Jayna started her story off the bat ☹️😂
Ewwwwww!
This weekend I heard someone mention an eclipse is to take place next month! I hadn’t heard anything about it or the type that it’s to be. Have you heard about it?
Yes,it's to be April the 8th. Look it up on Google.
Ancients always calculated the beginning of a new month according to the when the first sliver of the new moon appeared. Month meaning moon.
I dust when my husband writes his name😂😂😂😂😂
Love this😂
I would go with last name.
I like to put FOX on everything. It's a cool last name and a cool word in general! -megan
Thought I wanted chickens one day but I’m currently pregnant and this story made me so nauseous 😂😂😂
❤❤
Make graphic t-shirt merch! Please!
I always thought that July and August were added for the Caesars. ???
Must be your area on the thrift finds are not a bargain. Even in clothes my husband paid $3.00 each for nearly new Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, and JCrew long sleeve shirts. He must have scored 18 shirts. We have found some awesome serving pieces, antiques and furniture items in thrift stores, estate sales, and Goodwill. I was on a girl’s trip in Colorado and found some great bargains up there. Also, Facebook Marketplace has been a top furniture score for us also.
I’m in SW Florida and our Good Will prices are better than Lancaster county was. I found we have a lot of good quality items. Lancaster seemed to have a lot of dated clothing.
July and August were added in honor of Julius Caesar abd Augustus Caesar is what I was told 😬
I hate dusting and yes cleaning windows is not fun.
Housecleaning was a necessity back when I was growing up . We lived on a farm and heated the house with wood , so yes the house was turned upside down from attic to cellar, I think fall was done more throughly because of fly dirt and often a busy summer of scratching food in for the winter .
Share and swap parties for neighborhoods and communities should be something everyone tries this year. So many families are struggling paycheck to paycheck clothes, household linens, furniture are difficult to buy . Lets stop funding greedy corporations like Goodwill. Have you seen their new prices? 7$ for a dress , 6$ for a ratty old shirt. Lets bring back Garage sells everything for a 1$ or .50¢ . A struggling family doesn't care that the towels arent the exact shade of beige to be in style. They just need towels.
