Lead guitarist Jerry Cantrell considers this song the masterpiece of their debut album, that his own guitar solo gives him chills, and that Layne’s vocals on it are amazing. A tormented encapsulation of the fraught relationship Layne had with a girl named Demri Parrott, truly the love of his life. Love this one. Have all three albums (on both cassette and CD) and the Unplugged one too. The ending is pretty much the same on the studio version...but "Live" feels so much better when hearing. A couple of more great Layne songs (both by Mad Season) are: River of Deceit __ Wake Up. Studio versions or "live at the Moore"...either or.
The "grunge movement" is an immortal piece of music history. How did these bands; Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Nirvana all come out of 1 place at the same time with so much talent and passion. Why Seattle, Why 1989-1995, demolishing any pop rock of the time and ending in suicide and unreasonable death of all the singers throughout the 90s. I mean has that ever happened in similar fashion before.
That brings back so much, I remember 12-13 years old going everywhere with my walkman jamming to Alice in chains albums over and over again all the time, getting in trouble in school jamming out to this wow I forgot all about that, old guns and roses, Megadeth, Ozzy damn I remember all over again what made me so passionate about music in the first place. Thanks Vocalist you done it again I really needed that bit if inspiration today much appreciated, funny the unexpected places like can take you to find serenity isn't it lol. Hope everyone has a wonderful day, something about is calmness with his intensity that always inspired me it's like calm during the storm or something, whatever it was he was the master of it.
Since I've found your channel I've been waiting for your reaction to this particular song/performance. Bums me out when people react to the Unplugged songs, especially as an introduction to the band, since Layne was nowhere near the level he was at during this show. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for doing this. This is a good "alternative" to the subtle beauty/vocal harmonies of Down In A Hole (MTV UP), where it showcases Layne's unbelievable power when he was at his best. I always thought this reminded me of a 4 min song version of Romeo & Juliet : tragic love expressed by seminal artists : Shakespeare with his poetry, Layne with his voice.
I love your videos a lot. I know you love music in a way not a lot of people do, and I really appreciate your take on things. You are genuine, informative, and adorable lol. Ty
I was lucky enough to see them during the clash of the titans tour. Although I was there to see the other headlining bands it turned out that this song in particular was the highlight of the night. Most of the evening is long forgotten, or burnt away, but I can still remember what he was wearing, and feel how the mood was completely different during this song. I really love how he sometimes goes slightly off pitch ,whether intentional or not,it somehow makes it even moodier. Love the channel by the way.
Layne best singer of all times.. He had charisma, passion, perfect interpreter of AIC and Mad Season songs.. Every word he sang sang it from the heart.. Majestic voice, majestic person, majestic songwriter.. Love hate love always been my favorite song ❤
"sounds the fuel and feed intention, despite how it's perceived" is so true; Layne being an addict was probably constantly battling insecurity. Acknowledging that was awesome
its crazy watching this after this MTV unplugged. During the unplugged Layne was a man dying from heroine addiction. Here he had the most powerful voice. it would literally shake the stadium. Man in the box from this same concert would be a great analysis.

And the feeling of calmness during the storm is exactly the mood I was searching for today, it upset the day Kirk Cobain died, I cried the day Lane died! R.I.P.

@@janhojnik3561 sadly true and scary me asfk
At his peak, his voice was incomparable to anyone else. Funny thing is his voice was always the best
The greatest singer to ever exist. Rip buddy.
I love a good rockers scream, and Layne's screams are on the level of what a like to call, "Terrifying." Just awesome!!
Wake Up is one of my favorite Layne performances.
River Of Deceit plays regularly in my house, my truck, at work… such an amazing song.
@@SlitherWhisp Same here.
"ooo golly" lol you are exactly right
Yes! I recommended this and I know you’re going to love it! Can’t wait to watch it
This song is deep... The meaning will make you weep.
Great reaction, thank you. I always thought that the last bit was just Layne showing off, lol. An incredible singer with an incredible band.
Jerry Cantrell brought a lot to this band. The glue of the band!
Hey, Eddie’s still with us and going strong,
Such a powerful performance. Layne's vocals of course, but Cantrell's playing and solo are also fantastic.
Unreal performance.
One of the greatest to ever do it. RIP Layne 😭
This is peak Layne! Love this performance, it optimizes Layne’s greatness
i appreciate how you teach us to love our favorite songs even more thoroughly!
His voice gives me goosebumps and of the many this is one of my favorite all time greatest live performances ever from Layne! RIP! ❤
Best ever!!! You felt their music in a way no other band can replicate.
A little off topic, but Bethany’s natural beauty transcends her insightful analysis. Great song and video!
The way you leaned when Layne did was awesome 😂 your facial expressions are amazing your becoming one of my favorite reactors fr
This has always been my favourite performance of Early Layne im very glad you watched it! - From Australia!
Just made my day with this one. ❤
I love your videos a lot. I know you love music in a way not a lot of people do, and I really appreciate your take on things. You are genuine, informative, and adorable lol. Ty
This is the best live performance record I've ever seen. Makes me really emotional. Absolute legend! RIP
btw, love that you're embracing the grey hair! it's an attractive power move IMO
“This next song is about pain.” Well, that really narrows it down!
RIP Layne. You are missed.
I saw them on that tour in San Diego and again in Portland. Such an epic roster and AIC killed it as the opener.
Thanks for exposing new people to this. Grew up with it and sad he's gone but we lucked up and had this to experience as teenagers.
Bleed the Freak from that gig is also great.
Layne best singer of all times.. He had charisma, passion, perfect interpreter of AIC and Mad Season songs.. Every word he sang sang it from the heart.. Majestic voice, majestic person, majestic songwriter.. Love hate love always been my favorite song ❤
R.i.p😭 LS,,, We miss you brother. R.I.P Mike✌️
This live performance is my favorite, it sounds better than the album version. Unbelievably amazing.
One of the few singers that gave me goosebumps when i listen, amazing Layne Staleys, gone too soon!
Love it. You are so awesome and Layne was one of the best vocalists ever. RIP legend 🙏
I stumbled across your reaction channel and I got to say I'm already a fan. I love how you break it down. Just want to say... love your channel. Rock on girl rock on
I can’t wait to watch your reaction to this ❤️
And yes he sounded like that in concert he was the best .had it all
It's not about technique or training with Layne......it's about passion. One of a kind vocalist, gone too soon.
Grew up with 2 older brothers listening to Iron Maiden, Ozzy and others.
Layne and the guys were the first time finding my own way and best ever
‘Let’s go back’ - OK!! Layne’s voice doesn’t break - it BREAKS.
Breaks your heart ❤️. Talent wasted
Not only did you hear Layne's music ,you felt every word! One of the great's!!!
Made you truly believe what he was singing. A legend.
I stumbled across your channel and I got to say....l love it. I love how you break it down. Rock on girl rock on
And the feeling of calmness during the storm is exactly the mood I was searching for today, it upset the day Kirk Cobain died, I cried the day Lane died! R.I.P.
It was upsetting. I also felt awful when Dimebag was murdered. That lunatic shot several people that night. He wasn’t supposed to have access to a gun his stupid mother knew he was nuts and bought him a weapon as a gift.
Cried the day Layne died, but can’t spell his name correctly?!
Same with Kurt?!
I hate fake people
@@cfhfan2000 yeah damn autocorrect I seen it soon as I posted it, but thanks for pointing it out much appreciated, and don't hate anything, just don't give a damn what you think especially what you hate but if you going to hate on someone it might as well be me saves someone the misfortune of listening to your shit so throw it on hero. You're sure not bothering me, you probably wasn't even born yet poser. Did you ever see them live? Either of them? Loser.
