You probably won't see my message bit if you do I want to know if you saw a kid with a blue walker with two friends and a mom cause I was their on the 1st day and want to know if you saw us
The pure joy I hear in your voice over winning the finalist pin really pulled on my heart strings. I love your comment about making miniature painting accessible for all because as someone who is new to the hobby, I've been watching a lot of your videos and they've been so inspiring. You really do deserve all the praise and love. You are so incredibly skilled
They should do a "speed painting" catagrory for golden demon. I think it should work like this: You get your unpainted mini at the convention and have 24/48 hours to present the mini for judging. I think that would be interesting to see the results.
I think that'd be difficult to make sure no-one cheats at. Unless their forced to do all the painting right there on the convention floor in a little roped off section, there's nothing stopping them from 'taking the model back to paint at their hotel room' and then returning the next day with the same model they purchased 6 months ago and spent a ton of time on.
@@Utgarman- unless the models are unique for the event. Its not like you are going to manage crazy conversions that make them unrecognisable with such a short time.
I'd suggest that would be done with the new models that come out AT that convention, that way they can have more time (like 4 weeks or so) to paint the minis
I actually find model prepping quite relaxing most of the times, specially when I'm putting up a squad together and I can really explore all the possible poses and bits to add to give each member of the squad some personality.
The fact that you painted such a massive model in three days' time, using easy techniques, and not only entered it into Golden Demon, but got a FINALIST pin shows just how good of a painter you are.
Agreed. If Guy wanted to, even starting in his 30's, he could put himself on the competition mill and make a placing model in a couple years. I would rather he didn't, because I enjoy this channel for what it is, and I don't think that GD is the end all be all of artistic affirmation in the hobby. (Too much NMM for my taste- give me a Blanchitsu-focused competition already!) Elevating tabletop standard with the ingenious and innovative speed-paint techniques presented on this channel is more than enough to put Guy and Hatty in the 40k Painters Hall of Fame imo.
It's incredible to see how far you've come Guy. From speedpainting sandstone Necrons, to entering Golden Demon with a model you painted from the actual Midwinter Minis studio. I've loved watching your success over the years, and have loved watching Hattie become a huge part of the team too. So happy for you, dude.
Well done for your efforts Guy. Hope it gives you the confidence to enter next time, you did great for a 3 day job. Im sure there was many painters who didnt even get past the 1st round who spent even longer on theirs! But It just shows how sometimes it is best to just go and do something when you might have been unsure if you could before. If we dont try, well never know. Sorry for Hatties DSQ. It was probably the best painted DSQ'd Mini too, which in itself deserves a pin at the very least.
Mate, I have heard you music over and over again in every video. Still hits me hard, specially in that final montage. You are an awesome painter, but your musical skills are nothing to sneeze at.
Turned out really awesome, you got so much texture into it as well which really added to the mini. I'd say managing to do all that in such a short amount of time is extremely impressive, well done on the finalists pin, you do deserve it. As someone who likes to drill their barrels, to save time in the future, any of those cover parts with holes all round on exhausts are heat shields for it, they have a solid pipe inside so save yourself a lot of time and don't worry about drilling those.
Awesome vlog. That mini is awesome. Hopefully you include one high quality painting, along a monthly Hatty Great Unclean One, and the speed paining. The event seemed super fun. Keep up the good work.
Congrats on winning the pin on a first ever entry! That you got so far with what you claim are basic techniques is a nice testament to your painting abilities.
I suffer from pretty severe impostor syndrome also, but mine is about my skills as an engineer. Basically I feel like I'm not smart enough to earn the place I work at, or that I stole the chance to become an engineer from someone smarter than me. So I can relate, but just know that you did an amazing job with that miniature!
Ali! I sat next to him and his old man in the hobby challenge on Monday. What an absolute lil gent he was. I was very impressed to see him blending paints like it was nothing, for his piece. Myself and others were helping him swipe bits as we went up to the front when new boxes were tipped onto the table. I think he went away with a Kill Teams worth of SM stuff at least!
if that's the quality you can put out in a 3 day push, i'd love to see what you can do with a dedicated month or 2 of work on a display piece. major major congratulations on landing that finalist spot, absolutely well deserved.
Congrats on the pin! Also, it's inspiring - like you say, you're someone who uses and teaches simpler painting techniques. And I look at what you have achieved with it, and got the finalist pin from it, and I think maybe I can give it a go too. I've only been painting minis off and on over 30 years, maybe it's time to try a competition? I mean all of this in the highest possible praise: what you do shows us that it's achievable for all of us, with some effort and a little knowledge. Thank you for that.
Great video and congratulations on the well deserved pin, Guy! Special thank you for the montage in the end. I got to relive one of the best moments of my life. It's stupid how big of a deal that was for me.
I always forget you made the music for this channel. The end montage was great because of it. Keep up the excellent work and for making the fact of winning a finalist pin achievable for those willing to go for it.
While you were painting I was so impressed with it, and I'm SO glad it got recognized by a finalist pin!! All of the texture on the skin looked incredible. I think it's super clear that your painting has really levelled up, and now you have the pin to prove it! I'm sad Hattie's model was disqualified, but at the same time I'm happy that so many people got to see it firsthand, since it's so incredible.
This made a huge smile on my face! Thank you for sharing your work and thank you a lot for bringing me back to the hobby with your speed necrons video, back in the days! Hatty is such a great addition to the channel!
I wish I had 40 hours spare to paint a mini ... ( ! ) Great modelling and painting tips again, Guy. Love your work. Fantastic outcome and congrats on winning a pin. It looks like a great event to visit. Many thanks for your video and all of your hard work.
I used to play and paint A LOT, your videos are hugely inspiring. Never underestimate the fundamentals, everything else starts there. Imagine what might have happened with only one more day of work?
The fact that you assembled and painted your first golden daemon entry in only three days and got a finalist pin proves just how good of a painter you actually are.
Congrats for being a Finalist!!! You totally deserve it! Tbh, you've always inspired me to paint more stuff and often use your videos as guides to do stuff. And I insist, you totally deserved that pin, an if you continue to participate in the Golden Demon, I'm sure you'll win more than that!
Guy, your work is awesome and I can strongly relate on the imposter syndrom stuff. When its about my skills as an IT professional I feel somehow the same that I should be way more knowledgeable and better at what I am doing. Sometimes I feel bad about it but I try to use this feeling as a way to push and improve myself helping me through problems and obstacles at my work and I am sometimes amazed that I am more capable than I thought. And I think you are a very good painter and creating his paintjob in 3 days is nuts. I bet no golden demon winner will be able to create something in 3 days that looks better then your model. But in general I love the work of the Midwinter Minis team It is always a journey when I watch one of your videos. I hope you guys will be arround Warhammer Fest next year as I plan to make a short visit from germany to experience Warhammer fest myself and I would love to meet and greet you. :) Keep up the good work" Every Video you guys make and post makes my day birghter. :)
I've only been painting for a little over two years, and have only been really watching this channel for half of that time, but i hope someday i'll manage to paint something that i'm proud enough of to enter into golden demon :) you're an inspiration to us all, Guy.
That Mozrog shows you are a true artist. Even if someone can do all the techniques, putting them together in that amesome way, takes something extra. Very well done!
It was fantastic to meet you guys and hang out!! I will probably have to bring you a big box of cosplay supplies long before the next Fest as 3 days might not be enough for a full size version of this!?
Turns out you were better than you thought you were! I can't wait to see what you can pull off with twice as much time to work with at your next contest! You deserve it. And the guy who brought back Hattie's unclean one looked so sorry. You could tell by his face that he was really disappointed they didn't get to judge it.
It's so weird ot feel like an imposter. Had it with my FLG articles being sahred about and stumbling upon it. You deserved this pin cause even in three days you paint fantastically. Don't sell yourself short!! Both of you are pin winners imo :D

Very cool paint splatter hoodies, would love one myself
Currently watching this video still in line to see the Golden Deamon cabinets

You’re getting ready for next years - another couple of hours and you can see a mini!
I can't imagine not only painting a Golden Demon Entry in 3 days, but filming all of it as well! It looks outstanding Guy, congrats!
Thanks so much!
haha I didnt even think of this... filming literally triples the time
I really didn't understand the queue, so I sort of popped my head in and out of what I thought was a crowd. Everyone was too polite to correct me.

Man I love how sick the model looks and how it is a professional paintdo without having loads of painstaking tiny wet blends and nmm- suuuper nice
So happy for you Guy, really loved this video, especially the ending.
Dirty Down - one of the greatest inventions in modelling. Love it.

Using the sponge layer to define highlights and shade areas is so simple and so smart! Def copying that for my gloomspite beasties!
