Really? I feel like we are watching two different movies. The message I got from the movies were something along the lines of "Life's tough. You could (and for some people, will) lose the spark that you had after you enter adulthood, but don't stop moving, keep trudging along, because one day, you will get your spark back even if it looks to be impossible". A hopeful message, that's what I got from the movie.

The thing is, Menoa lied, or more specifically projected what she considered the “truth” of what happens when children grow up. The message of Kizuna is that forcing yourself to “grow up” to fit society’s expectations is what is driving the bonds to disappear. The reason why it’s happening to Matt and Tai is because they have also been taking this stance. It is shown early in the movie that they have been emotionally neglecting their partners. Pawning them off to be babysat by their younger siblings, scoffing at the thought of brining them to their classes, and living alone without them.
Agumon himself said, “Are we not needed anymore”
Matt, Tai, and Sora all lose their partners because they closed themselves off in a bid to become an “adult”. They have closed off their limitless possibilities and only look back at their childhood of resigned nostalgia.
The end of the movie ends bittersweet but hopeful. They will meet again after all, they just need to find that spark of wonder again. Their adventure isn’t over, but we the audience have seen their struggles and how they have overcome them already. We can fantasize at what point in their adulthood they get them back, but we don’t really need it.

We have another film on the way now featuring the 02 cast. The digimon series has adult Tai working alongside Agumon at the UN so something is probally going to happen to reconnect the partners eventually. Or hey...maybe they do reunite but simply can't digivolve anymore and arnt bound by digivice?
Also, your theory sound good. Okikawa had a partner at HIS age afterall.

This would actually have been an Amazing evil plan for a villain later on in the story, making the digidestined break their bonds on their own and making them vulnerable to get rid of later! Setting up a confrontation with them when they realized growing isn’t about losing that spark for adventure and “potential”- as people can ALWAYS keep changing, growing and shifting. Their dreams. If anything Kizuna prays off of the childish fear of what growing up means, or a very defeatist outlook of adulthood as a role you forever LOCK yourself into once you’ve chosen one.

Yeah I didn't really like when the Video kept calling the idea Misery porn considering the movie ends on an optimistic outlook creating more of a bittersweet ending rather then one that's meant to make people depressed.

Can’t say I agree. Rather, I saw it as a send off in recognition that nothing stays the same.
Agumon and Taichi’s last conversation beat sums that up, when agumon remarks that taichi is so much bigger now, while taichi responds with Agumon’s lack of change.
In a sense we, the audience, are placed in Taichi’s shoes. We grew up, and it’s time to look forward to other things in life now. Not to say that we should forget about the past, but that we shdnt be held back by it.
If forgetting the past was indeed the message, we wouldn’t have a scene of Yamato and Taichi bawling their eyes out when their partners inevitably disappeared

For one say what you will about the digimom but they are meant to represent out childhood and even if we don't notice it we DO linger away from things we enjoyed as kids digimon aren't TOYS sure, but are to represent the same feeling as leaving a toy close to u to collect dust on the shelf.
And I find the message not to be "oh ur growing up?? Boo hoo here adulthood and taxes" the movie is about accepting time is gonna change you and u might not hold those old friends so high or swe them as often. But they aren't gone because the adventures you had shaped u into a new person. Short of it... the end of the movie isn't somber because "I will see you again"

This movie failed to get me invested for two reasons:
    - They already did the loss of the partner Digimon before in TRI, where all of the partners get infected with Meicoomon's glitch and need to be reset and lose their memories;
    - The ending of 02 already shows that all ends well, with the chosen children being with their partners again.

The Digimon were all infected? Now they are all reborn. Oh, they don't remember anything? A few episodes later they remember everything.
Tri. throws big names like Ygdrassil and Gennai, Dark masters etc. into the movies and reduce all of them to mere sidecharacters that do "something" and disppear like they will be anything but red herings.

If anything Kizuna should have left the clock ticking and everything in but changed this one aspect Tai and yamato were listless they lost their dream and thus were losing their partners but overcoming that with their bond would mean just being ABLE to have hope and dreams is good enough. to be fair, when I finally watched this movie I didn't feel much emotion knowing that the end of the second season was the true endpoint for the series. And on top of that, the last thing that killed my interest in the movie...
    ...was digimon adventure 2020.
When I heard Agumon tell taichi that digimon can't change on their own, I almost shouted 'bullshit' at the tv screen because Adventure 2020 was filled with examples of the many different ways that digimon can grow and evolve, demonstrated by all the alternate evolutions that show up in that series. And it's topped off with Omegamon telling the defeated villain of adventure 2020 that it shouldn't be bound by neither good or evil in it's next reincarnation, because digimon hold endless potential.
So a lot of what Kizuna was trying to tell fell flat for me because of the reboot.

I may need to watch it again, but I took away that growing up too fast will lead you to diminish your child-like potential for life. Even though Tai and Matt were without focus for the future, they were too concerned with the future and missed the opportunity to slow down and remember childhood where "anything is possible". Once again, I may need to watch it again.
Also, with the 02 epilogue, I think the point is that people remember the child-like wonder that opens us to the possibilities of life when they have children, which leads to the return of the digimon.

The story isn’t “you have to grow up and forget the past”, even though that is a line in the film, it’s “it is okay to grow up and leave some childish things behind”. The second is something I had a problem with until I realized this. Them losing their Digimon when they reach their potential rubbed me wrong until 1. I learned 02 was getting this treatment 2. Personally liked the movie but regardless it really feels like this movie needs a dedicated sequel to fix some of the stuff in it. Like have the twist be that the characters only lost their potential because they put themselves in a box and gave up on wanting to be more than they currently were so they can rediscover their potential again later in another movie. Also would have preferred if the final forms at the end had been something more along the lines of biomerge from season 3 than just a regular evolution. As far as the other characters being handled offscreen that was likely only done because of the movie format to keep the pacing. They basically got the same treatment in Our War Game if you recall.

Its almost like showing fan service while constantly giving a reminder that no matter how much the "children" try to bring back those good memories/times and even if they have a day or 2 like "the good old days" it will always still end with certain people separating as their needs and responsibilities change, like adulthood.
What I got from the movie is that, change happens, whether you want it or not. It can sometimes be good, it can sometimes be horrible. When you change, other things change around you, expected or unexpected, it will happen and that's okay. You can take it in stride or you can hold onto that pain until you feel ready to let go. But you shouldn't let it define you and hold you back.

I haven't watched the movie in a while but what i got from the movie is that they lost their Digimon because life got in the way.
Remember this is Japan we're talking about here, where people can and will work themselves to death. So the idea that culture, growing up and life itself would force them to distance themselves from their Digimon partners and neglect them, essentially it's the same as with the Vpets, Digimon are still fighting tamagotchi, neglecting them will eventually kill them too, makes perfect sense given the context of how life is in Japan. It also doesn't invalidate 02's epilogue, once you get past the turmoil of growing up and you finally settle down (there's also a big IF in finding that luxury of settling down) you will find your inner child again, eventually. If you have kids, your kids will become tamers too, and as they find their own Digimon partners you as a resolved adult will meet your old digimon partner again as well.

Definitely can’t say I agree with you. Good
Points made BUT this movie sets up why Digimon stands out from its competitors in similar anime. This hits you with the reality that things DO come to an end it unfortunate but it’s true. Best thing I can think of to compare it to is losing a dog. My dog was my closest friend and there’s no way I could prepare for him to pass but it’s common knowledge that we do outlive our dogs. That doesn’t mean you sit and dwell on it and just prepare for the end. You embrace it and make the relationship count. I know you say “all things are possible” with the series however that’s what would make this series age poorly and nothing would feel as heavy or real if it always ended in sunshine and rainbows.

digimon never die truly, that was firmly set in stone from the first season of adventure, it's just that the link to them is lost at the end of last evolution kizuna, meaning they are gone from their human partners for the time being and will be unable to digivolve through that method again. remember that the link to the digidestined don't allow their digimon partners to continue existing, they just grant their partners extra power and guidance and the ability to exist in the human world eventually, plus it is shown at the end of 02 that they do reunite eventually, also they didn't explore where the digimon actually were drawing from through the children. sora actually did show that sora's digivice was stone already and suggested that she already lost biyomon already
i'll agree that the rest of the digidestined didn't get enough attention though, they were all sidelined compared to the 2 that have always gotten the most attention

I'm glad you said something about this movie because it makes absolutely no logical sense because I'm like okay if this is still supposed to take place in the universe of the Digimon adventure 1 and 2 it contradicts because why would I feel bad about ty and Matt losing their Digimon partners or there's a time frame from losing their Digimon partners when the epilogue of Digimon adventure 2 show the original cast in the '02 cast as adults with their Digimon partners with kids and their kids having Digimon as well so it makes no logical sense. I mean if the message is to grow up and let go of childhood innocence sure that's fine but contradicting the setup of a 20-year-old ending doesn't make logical sense that's why I didn't feel anything when with this movie because I'm just like did people forget about the original franchise that people forget how old to end it we jumped into the future we saw the epilogue we know that ty Matt and the rest of them are with their Digimon partners living their dreams having kids having families with their Digimon partners like ty isn't ambassador and Matt is a astronaut and guess what agumon and gabumon are there with them So why would I feel something for them losing their Digimon partners like you said this was misery p*** just for the hell of it because they wanted to try to get us to feel something and it's the same issue I had with Digimon try how Digimon try just kind of ignored the events of O2 but saying oh they exist but you know nobody went to go look for the O2 cast the O2 cash just went off on their own without TK and Curry it is just too many things from these new adventure One movies and shows that contradicts everything that the original adventure 1 and 02 set up if you're going to do this then you can't break your own canon just for the sake of it It feels like they were just doing this just because hey you guys remember the adventure One cast the most popular cast of all of the Digimon franchises Yeah let's bring them back for no reason whatsoever because nothing they've done told any story honestly I didn't feel anything from the try movies the tribe show or this movie because again I already saw the ending of O2 it's the same issue with Dragon Ball super You're bringing things back into a time period where we already saw the ending for a lot of these characters so to come out of nowhere and try to put misery or try to get us a feel something for these characters after we've already seen their happily ever after makes absolutely no logical sense That's why I couldn't get behind this movie.

I mean they went on to create the reboot to gain a new generation of fans instead. They failed and now are releasing another dark 02 film sequel to Kizuna with tragedy as its theme I suppose. If you ask me the creators themselves need to move on from Adventure property and maybe make a digimon story that carries on the themes of Tamers instead.

The problem with Kizuma is that it gives us the SAME ending the original Adventure had. Which begs the question, what's the point if its just going to give us the SAME ending as the original? The answer is, THERE ISN'T! 1999 Adventure had the entire season build up to the ending, one key difference between the 1st season and all of its subsequent sequels is the fact that the children were TRAPPED in the digital world for most of the show and when they finally got the gate open, they had to leave their friends behind. It was bittersweet, sudden and a perfect way to end the show.. Now that i think about it, isn't the original 1999 ending ALREADY an ending about leaving your friends behind but not forgetting them? Inject the ending with so much young adult angst just makes it crap.

As for Tai Chi and Yamato, lose their partners first, because they have no direction. Yet the other characters still have a higher level of creativitiy and inspiration. Joe is a Doctor, Izzy is running his own company, Mimi has an e-commerce operation...hence their minds are still active...hence I feel their partners are still around. I would have liked to have seen the rest of the cast stories be handle on-screen instad of off-screen. I am just content, not happy, that this cherished series got a type of closure.

Except the reasonig for losing them is absolutely the oppsote Tai, Matt and Sora lose theirs first becuase they already settled themselves into just 1 direction which, and that mentality is what leads to their "potential" to reach a limit since they alteady decided "I'm going to do this thing an nothing else matters"
At first one would say "But hey! Izzy and specially Joe have always seemed to be fixed on what their goal was, even Joe didn't really want to be a digidestined some times" however both of them managed to further their careers without loosing focus of the world around them and their connection to their digimon, Agumon is pretty surprised at how Tai has changed and how his room is different, showing how their relationship isn't as close as it used to be, meanwhile we see Tentomon and Gomamon are chilling inside their respective partners place of work showing than even if Joe and Izzy are still invested in their "adult" responsibilities they have managed to keep them close and part of their lives
While Tai, Matt and Sora failed on that front

But as the movie is concluding, we see references to the 02 ending of Digimon. Meaning when they become adults, the Digimon will come back it’s just that they need to take time to develop their lives and when they need them they’ll be there.

  • @TheZiiper011
    @TheZiiper011 Рік тому

so you actually hit on the thesis of the movie fairly well (giving up on your hope and dreams) but miss it because of the way it delivers it (through Matt and Tai losing there digimon). i believe your nostalgia and bias is clouding your assessment of the film.
The ending of film even clearly talks about how they will see them again and you yourself point out how in other series and seasons older people have Digimon. there are ways for them to be reunited. i admit the message of the movie wasn't the strongest it could have been but the movie is a metaphor for depression and giving up. The Ring appears to Tai and Matt because they are basically giving up on there dreams and not doing what they love. you even said how its strange Tai never invited Augmon over to his apartment before. they are moving on without them for mundane boring life.
Meanwhile the reason Joe, Izzy and Mimi haven't lost there Digimon is because they are following there dreams and have hope for an infinite future still. Tai and Matt don't know what to do and are just doing what they are told they should do, not following there desires and dreams. Hence why they develop the ring. but we see both with hope in there eyes and drive towards a goal meaning they can and will see there Digimon again

I think the disappearing was a bit much, maybe should have just been unable to stay in the real world and their partners can no longer evolve them or access the digital world. Either way it’s an open ending if you want to take 02 as canon or not. But in real life you do lose relationships as you grow up and some relationships fulfill their purpose.

Sora knew the truth already which was very much presented early on when she didn’t want to fight anymore and enjoy the time she had left with her partner. She aspected what could not be changed as we all do in life. Not everything is a happy ending. We all love each day know that everything will end, but we keep moving forward. Loved ones will die. It was misery porn as you described it. It’s a cold reality that we all keep in the back of our heads.

Hard disagree. I think the message of this film is being misunderstood on a grand scale, despite being pretty overt and in your face. Loss is a natural part of life, and running from it or denying it will only sour the memory of your adventures together. I can understand where this criticism stems from, and it was inevitable with this theme, but i feel like people focus way too much on the climax where Tai and Matt face off against the past versions of their friends and reject living in the past. The movie isn't perfect in its message, but I for one never got the "You're too old for Digimon" takeaway. The whole movie is about grief and loss, which is a different and difficult subject from what Digimon usually goes for. The digimon arent toys, they arent something you can just throw away, they ARE their friends which is why it's so hard when the gang are faced with losing them. This hit very home for me as someone whos known people quite literally on the clock with illness, or has just lost people in general. The plot points could have been better in places, specifically with Izzy, but i'm a firm supporter that the message of this film is very positive and is a solid way to end the franchise. Life will take from you, it wont be fair, but it's still worth it to keep going even if its without some of the people you loved along the way.

This is a good video, but I just dont agree with your points. Their digimon didn't die, they are just gone for a time. It was their last evolution, not their final appearance. It honestly felt more like a we will see you again rather than a goodbye. Especially when both Matt and Tai, go on to say exactly that.
Also Sora, Joe, Mimi, and Izzy are shown without their Digimon at different points in the film. It's heavily implied that Sora already knew that Biyomon was going to disappear. That's why we see her choosing to not join the fight and just stay with her digimon. Then we see her clutching the stoned over digivice cheering Matt and Tai on and we dont see Biyomon in that scene. She was the first of the original gang to go through it. Later in the credits we see Izzi, Joe and Mimi all living their respective lives, but we dont see their digimon. Only Kari and TK still have theirs, and the rest of the 02 gang. This movie is centered around Matt and Tai, because they were the defacto leaders of the OG group, but indo agree that I wish we saw more of thr others.
Lastly, I really recommend you watch this other video. It helps show just how touching and heartfelt this movie is, especially when you consider the ending of 02.
